  Born as the child of the rocky and brief marriage between C.C. and Marilyn Fawcett - Beck, young Billy was raised only by her then-teenage mother through the first years of his life.

  During a visit they took to the annual Christmas Village held in Philladelphia, 5 year old Billy was separated from her mother amidst the crowd. Found by the police, Billy would be put on the foster care system, raised in both Pittsburgh and in Philadelphia, quickly gaining a reputation as a problem child. He ran away, always searching for his real family, and never emotionally attached to any "fake family". His search brought him in problems the police. He kept searching, looking up all women named Batson in the right age range.

Eventually, at the age of 14 after a afoul run-in with the law in which he stole a police unit, Billy was given a choice: being put in a youth detention center or get sent to a new family, to which he chose the latter, placed in the care of Victor and Rosa Vasquez, both former foster children themselves, and becoming foster-siblings with their kids, Mary, Freddy, Eugene, Pedro, and Darla.
Initially refusing to connect to the other children and rejected their attempts to get close to him, Billy ultimately grew to accept them enough to step in and defend his siblings from bullies who were picking on them at school.

However, this would lead to Billy getting chased out of the premises, eventually escaping inside a subway train. It would be then that Billy would be summoned by the ancient Wizard of the Rock of Eternity, Shazam, who had chosen him to be his champion after his selfless act.
The Wizard bestowed his power upon him, with a word, he could transform into the champion and wield the Living Lightning. However, the transfer of powers end up with Shazam succumbing to age and passing away, his body converting into dust.

Turned into a muscular adult with an outfit akin to those of Greek's old champions and warriors, Billy was transported back to the subway. Confused about his new "look", he ranned back to his home looking for the help of Freddy, finding him the only one who could aid given his fandom of superheroes. Teaching him, Billy would eventually become a sensation in his local town as the superpowered Captain Marvel.

This would, of course, lead to the events of the movie, Billy becoming arrogant, working on his own, fighting Sivana and the Sins, turning his siblings into the Shazam Family, all that jazz.

This was real fun to do, haven't done Shazam in a while and, well, I wanted to make this new version something to be proud of. The design itself is based upon the Roy Thomas/Jerry Ordway Captain Thunder concept before his reboot post-Crisis (HERE ) as well as amazing redesign shazam e2 , which you should check out.

  All in all, this was fucking fun. Which is what Shazam should be. Cheers mates!
