Description
Folder with all the other tip and trick guides:volbeatfiro.deviantart.com/galβ¦
planned on putting some art maybe in between the tips, but there really wasn't room, and in the end this is more a tip guide not a work of art, art's not really needed unless to point something out directly. included as much as I could and tried to give good examples. also a touch of humor here and there to keep it from becoming a boring read. a guide for nuzlockers on how I feel it'd be best to go about making a strong start to a nuzlocke.
let me know if anything needs more elaboration, improvement, and hope this helps. more are coming later on

The planning bullet points will truly help me with my nuzlockes.
As for long pages, I honestly would do at leas 3-6 sheets per page. 10 is a bit too much for my art programs to handle.

sweet good to hear, and yeah, that type of setup can be daunting for some art programs to handle

What can you do to compensate for not being able to do tall pages? I don't have the money to rent Photoshop but, at the same time, I see what you mean by doing short pages dragging out a Nuzlocke story, which I really want to avoid. Should I wait to try and get Photoshop and a drawing tablet before starting my own Nuzlocke or should I just give it a go with what I have? Thanks for the help, I really appreciate these tips.

you can always stack your pages in any sort of freeware program like gimp or so, doesn't need to be a paid for pgoram or so.Β
and you're welcome, glad they're helpful

My Nuzlocke strips are shorter and condensed, and the art style is really cruddy atm. My main goal is to help me get used to a tablet I just got and started using. So my artwork should get a bit better overtime. My main concern is whether or not people will skip over my Nuzlocke just because it's not in the "tall" format you say.

comics really help you improve over time, you'll get into a groove. and it's up to you and how consistent you are with release/interest in story/characters, don't feel your choice in page format will make people skip over it.

*About to make my Nuzlocke- But is reading these first*
- Jump in with a bang, ignore Professor Tutorials...? Check (I might jump in with the Rival Battle for Crying out loud!)
- Read other Nuzlockes first, Check, I'm reading about 50
- Plan, No check... *Must find a buddy*, My brother is too judgmental and blurts out spoilers
- Tall pages, Something I've been wanting to do for a while now, and something I'll surely do sense I refuse to color my comic, Check

sound's good. so are you continuing the original meme idea, or going to abandon that and do a new idea.
for sure, next nuzlocke I'll probably jump even further than that, the beginning parts of games are the most done part, so jumping a bit later is better.
indeed you do
I don't mind helping out with things here and there, though note I will be big and demanding on consistent theming of ideas and concepts, I will nitpick the plans if I feel they're not up to par. if this is what you want, cool I'm willing to help, if you're seeking a less critical planning buddy, then that won't be me.
it's just the most effective format for online and readability, it's up to you

I will continue that one day- But in-run I did really bad, and my comic quality was bad. I like the idea-But I want more experience before I continue a big comic like that (Plus I need to look up more memes)

you should make a whole set with the ones you already had with the tl;dr, and adding the links in the description for further information, this ones are pretty good, also the title of this one is nuzlcoke!
π: 0 β©: 1
OddPenguin In reply to DMKryl [2013-09-14 12:41:50 +0000 UTC]
there already is a link to a folder with all the other ones, if you mean make a set of all the tl'dr and put them together, I find that's kind of silly, you wouldn't exactly put 15 book summaries together and call it a book, putting all the tl'drs in one place would encourage laziness in people, the tl'dr are meant mostly as refreshers to the points I made in each guide, reading only the tl'drs misses out on a lot of the important information

Been reading all your tutorials, they're being useful!
Damn, I wish I'd have thought about things before starting my nuzlocke. It started with bad art, no plot, the character had no design, no character development, absolutely nothing.
I was just like: "IAM GOIN START MAH NUAZLOCK".
Seriously, I wish I could change the first page and also the cover with my actual style. Because I don't like the fact that people runs scared when they see my first pages and they can't possibly know how much I have improved.Β
Do you think I should remake the first page and also the cover, also putting a message saying "Dude, this run changes, give it a try, please" xD
Also, thank god I changed things and added a plot and everything...

OddPenguin In reply to Jutopa [2013-08-14 16:27:27 +0000 UTC]
oh thanks a lot, glad you think so.
heh, it's the most common thing I run into nuzlockers, they end up hating their first pages. it's understandable as most don't think about all these things when they start off and just do it for fun, then it becomes a more dedicated rewarding project you want to improve later on.
personally when I look for nuzlockes I don't judge based off the first page, I look around at a middle later on page, and if I like what I see, I go back and start from the beginning.
Your original cover comes off very spoiler y not going to lie, since you have fully evolved guys on it and it can take the drama out of things when you know they'll last that long to evolve, so I'd say yes on the cover mostly because it dampens the drama of knowing who will survive.
as for the pages, I say leave them be, it turns into a never ending cycle if you keep going back and tinkering old pages.Β
same here, It so much more rewarding and enjoyable when you personalize your run with a plot. taking a pokemon game and replotting it to something unique to you is such a blast

(Also, THANK YOU for the tutorial bashing.Β I didn't plan to start at the "Welcome to the World of Pokemon" intro anyway, but it's nice to hear that I'm not the only one who thinks that's one ofΒ the WORST ways to start a Nuzlocke).
