here I elaborate on the very crucial technique of jump cutting.Β

thanks for enjoying these guys, all you guys who came from the Ky-Nim commission and liked my tip trick guides helped motivate me to do this sooner

what is visuals? sorry this one seems more wall of texty

as with any of these, if you see a typo or something ,NOTE me it so I can fix it, don't point it out in the comments. take into account I don't overly care about mistakes that don't affect reading like not capitalizing the first letter of a sentence

I'll discuss villians next :3

... Sadly, I doubt I'll ever publish a Nuzlocke, but good to know how to properly jump cut with my pinky out whenever I need to. *files into generally useless trivia that'll get me on some quiz show some day*

But I really can't wait for villains, that'd help withΒ some of my stories I do. Kind of. Maybe. I dunno.

this can generally apply to anything comic or story related really, nothing here is overly focused around nuzlockees.

cool, that'll motivate me to get it done quicker

Yeah, that's what I like about most of these tutorials

MOTIVATION!!!!!!!!! *stares really hard at VolbeatFiro until it's finished* ... does that seem too stalkerish?

indeed, and I keep it straight to info mostly without the fluff.

pfft, nah, since your stares can't physically reach me over typed comments

Or can I? I can see you staring at your screen in confusion asking yourself "why is this crazy psycho stalking me?" Or something along those lines.

But but but I LOVE watching characters filing their taxes, it can be just as thrilling as a deadly battle! The struggle is real! D:

You have useful advice for every little topic in the whole universe, don't you? This is great and I'll just sneakily walk away pretending I was aware of all of this already. Β

OddPenguin In reply to Krisantyne [2014-03-14 00:10:16 +0000 UTC]

watch their be an anime in the future where's the enemy is the physical representation of taxes. the battle is REAL!!! but yes, filing taxes is an adventure.

I suppose so, I don't know where I get this info either it's not like i've referenced anything for any of these, it just comes from owning and reading a lot of comics since I was young and picking up on trending techniques and the like.

I wouldn't even be surprised, it seems like there is an anime about everything.

You have a valuable talent, my friend. ;w;

At some point in it you said Wash instead of Watch.

Jump cuts, that has given me a bit to think about. I'll have to re read my stuff and see if I've done any.
( I know I was planning on doing one soon, I'll have to evaluate that one.)

In my experience of watching anime I don't think its the best way to learn how to use jump cuts.
Honestly I'd say Western Drama Tv shows are better for it.
A commercial break is a lot like a page break, you have 3 minutes of commercial right in the middle of your drama.
You don't wanna loose people, and you want that tension to carry over.
Heck even in the days of DVR you still have a few seconds of fast forwarding through the commercials.

An example of a show that did pretty decently with jump cuts was probably Lost.
Every episode focused on one character and primarily showed their past, future or weird side dimension thing ( Yeah Lost was weird.)

I know I try to end each page with the scene being completed.
Saute and Oyster talk, the page ends when they're done with their talk.
A plane flies over head, the page ends with it crashing into the building leaving the reader in suspense.

Again great work! A fantastic source for conversation.
( And I'm really excited for the next one.)

yeah, I'm fixing it now

I'm sure you've done some

anime in general is definitely not the best example, Baccano in particular IS. it has NO main character, jumps around from character to character seemingly unrelated spiraling toward a nice wrap in. so it uses a LOT of scene to scene jumps in one episode, you think a few jumps of commerical is much? baccano jumps around than I thought was more than feasible to write a story. check out this great openingΒ www.youtube.com/watch?v=Msg8yp… . you might even see a name similar to a certain perons' username

but yes, generally speaking those are better know for their jump cuts.

I haven't seen any of lost but I heard interesting things about it, however, I also hear it made fun of for having no conclusive ending, so I avoid it since I don't want to get invested only for dissapointment

a thanks, it is an interesting topic to bring up that you just don't concsiously notice as much

Lion-Oh-Day In reply to OddPenguin [2014-03-14 02:26:15 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I guess when I brought up Commercials I ment more of a Page by Page Jump cut and less of a Scene Jump cut.

Actually this looks really interesting. I am probably going to check it out later.

You LIE! I didn't see a Single Captain or Penguin!!!

Lost is... interesting. It actually does rap the story up nicely, it just doesn't answer all the questions you've might have had.
Some characters are also really important in the first part of the series and then kinda fade into the back ground.

But if you look at it as a character Drama, its pretty gosh darn good.
The first few seasons are actually really good and the things that do pay off are actually pretty sweet.
So I'd suggest watching it for two seasons.
Though there's totally better TV out there *cough* Firefly *Cough*

OddPenguin In reply to Lion-Oh-Day [2014-03-14 02:30:20 +0000 UTC]

I got you

ah cool, it's only 16 episodes long and technically ends at 13, with 3 more episodes to wrap up extra stuff, so it'll be easy Β to get to really

YOUR SAYING I LIE IS LIE, look again, there might be a FIROOOOOOOOOOOOOO somewhere there.

yeah, I gotcha, it's one of those, I know how that is, most want the obvious everything wraps up ending, but there's plenty of endings many hate that I've come to appreciate like the End of Evangelion movie or others like that with some nice wrap up but not everything answered.

heh, firefly's been making a storm of shirts on those daily shirt sites lately so it must have a big fandom

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lion-Oh-Day In reply to OddPenguin [2014-03-14 02:46:29 +0000 UTC]

Alright yeah that sounds like good binge material. I hear there's a dub of it?

That was the joke!!!

Well I guess most peoples problem with it was that some of the bigger questions where not answered.
Like one character is constantly being sought after by this guy, and eventually the character gets caught by the guy and we pretty much never hear from them again XD So some things just aren't answered. Which can be kinda annoying.
But yeah I enjoy that I watched Loss, wouldn't watch it again XD

Well yeah it was a show that got canceled but even years after it got a movie made for it. Like a big budget Paramount film.
And the Film was good.
So yeah it's got a pretty big fandom.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

OddPenguin In reply to Lion-Oh-Day [2014-03-14 03:00:38 +0000 UTC]

the dub in one of the few instances is vastly superior to subs for this series, funimation went all out for baccano

pfft, you fooled me

I gotcha, enjoyed the experience but not a rewatchable thing.

ah right on, cool it still got a movie. a bit unrelated but similar in fandom size and situation, Invader zim has a big fandom too and even several episodes with the voices already done unaired and lots of extra scripts unused, so let's see that revival please too. the series was good and it's still selling merchandise .3. . some wrap up would be nice.

Lion-Oh-Day In reply to OddPenguin [2014-03-14 03:22:55 +0000 UTC]

Where can I find episodes of it?

I only saw a few episodes of Invader Zim. I was too young at the time to really get it and since it doesn't really air re runs I never got the chance to see it later.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

OddPenguin In reply to Lion-Oh-Day [2014-03-14 03:32:11 +0000 UTC]

the entire dub used to be on hulu for free, not sure anymore, I own it so I never had to hunt it down online....yeah, it's all on huluΒ www.hulu.com/baccano

it just got went on the wrong channel, it's good but it's more dark and should have been on adult swim or something not nickolodeon. a particular murder case where someone cited one of the episodes influencing him (there's an organ harvesting episode) didn't help the situation either .3.

Okay so I totally thought for that last part you where talking about Baccano XD

Took me a few minutes to realize you where talking about Invader Zim.

I'll give it a look, and let you know what I think. ( About Baccano.)

Yeah, I understand where you're coming from with those puns. You'd really be jumping the shark, eh?
On a more serious note, nice information, pretty sure it'll come in useful!

jump the shark? sounds like your jumping the gun on that one

but yeah, glad you like the info, I go for no frills no fluff it's all about the info with these guides

PkBlitz [2014-03-13 22:51:33 +0000 UTC]

Amazing guide as always, I see this time it isn't exclusively for nuzlockes but for any story in general. Can't wait for the Villain Guide, I think a well done bad guy is one of the best aspects in any good story (and personally, I can't wait to play with some ideas about it in the future).

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

OddPenguin In reply to PkBlitz [2014-03-13 22:57:55 +0000 UTC]

true, there isn't any application here that can't apply to other types of comics, there's not any nuzlocke specific info regarding this technique anyway. and heh, that one was specifically requested a while ago, so I've been needing to get to that, and definitely, bad guys can be the most interesting character
