Description
17 year old Nate River, or (ネイト=リバー, Neito Ribā)solves riddles that no police force on Earth can fathom, but now he is up against a puzzle that even he is finding a strain for his perceptive mind, and must again look to see if a supernatural hand is a work

I was under the impression he was somewhere round 14 or 15 when I drew this, then i rechecked the information and found out that he was indeed 17 and just very short.
So now, this is what he'll look like at 19 or 21.

That could be possible...I can see him just sitting on a chair moving the different puzzle pieces into place with his cane

Well he has his puzzles, his houses of cards. I'm trying to imagine him having swiss army knife esque cane that he'd walk about with, that only he knows the combination to working, you'd have to turn it or press it a different way to give it a different function like Dare Devil's cane

I really like that idea as it would suit his character. What sort of things would it have if you don't mind me asking?
From the design and the idea of the cane I'd like to think he'd be a bit more hands on than L in actually apprehending the criminals.
With a character this Epic it makes me wonder if you'll be able to create an antagonist that will be able to last more than five seconds against him

Well, the hands on nature will be if anything in memory of Mello, remembering he has to balance all three aspects of crime fighting when necessary, as L did in his day.
It can grapple in the same way rorschach's gas gun can, it can sword cane I'd imagine, you never know when that could be useful.
Probably have detective-ish stuff in it, but I don't know what, perhaps something that can pick up signals or electric wires in the walls, or something.
As for an antagonist, i'm not sure yet

If you want inspiration for an antagonist I would suggest watching the anime psycho pass, its a really thought provoking anime and Makishima Shogo is such a dark complex character, that being said you could even use the protagonist Kogami character as inspiration for an antagonist
In regards to his cane, I was thinking about your reverence to dectetive-ish stuff and I have a suggestion...If you don't mind?
L was the ultimate, I think most people would crack immediatly and confess to whatever they did if left in a room with him for more than 5 minutes
Mello was more of an anti-hero in my oppinion but in the end still commanded respect for being willing to throw away his life in order to stop Kira

The art style reminds me of Jormungand, I'll check it out.
As for the respect, it's just that we have Near admitting that L's caution mixed with pro-activeness merged with Mello's hands on attitude is what ultimately brought down Kira, not his own mental bravado. So to take on threats likened to or greater then Kira, he should have to learn to emulate the other approaches.
The cane helps him be methodical as well as get in the action, so it's a good tool.

It's fine, and it isn't an action prone show, but its still so interesting, I'd advise you to give it a try, its so intense.
