would a regular mechanical work?

I believe people use blue pencils because, if you work mostly digital, non-photo blue (as most people who use blue pencils use) doesn't show up when you scan in your photo. I've tried (I use a Prismacolor non-photo blue) using blue and I think it's helpful (because I work mostly digital) when I do my rough sketching with the blue and then nicely draw out over it with a regular pencil. It really makes a difference for me! And then when you scan to do digital inking, the blue doesn't show up.

Well, I bought mine at my local Dick Blick. I'm sure if you go on the Prismacolor website you can find it. And there might be other companies that make non-photo blue pencils, I just happen to use Prismacolor.

I think you for posting this! I am a digital and traditional drawer and I love Manga but some I have been down because I do not know how to draw hair properly or shade. I feel like an idiot for it and I think its important. Every time I go to draw the hair and make it look sharp, it comes out all crappy and I just give up because of it, you can see it in all my pictures that I posted on this website that it they all don't look professional or good either. I can't even get hands right too! I know this is stupid but could you tell me how to get that sharp look on the hair and not get the sloppy look? Also, how to draw hands? It would mean a lot thank you

ha! i just asked that. I found regular blue, er... darker blue (pentel 0.5 Blue 60mm) at DickBlick, it doesnt seem to be the same non-photo blue that Panda-chan uses

gatogirl12345 In reply to Natsumio-Chan [2010-10-15 13:48:32 +0000 UTC]
Nope. The reason why *pandabaka and other comic creators use blue pencil is because the blue pencil doesn't show up when you scan it.
