Description
This tutorial explains how a buyer and an artist can set up payment using deviantART's Commission Widget. Through this process, the artist receives CASH through PayPal. The artist DOES NOT receive any points. There is a two week delay between when the buyer sends payment and when the artist receives the funds through PayPal.
If you see any typos, please let me know
As you can see, this process is needlessly complicated. To see a proposal for a far simpler system, refer to:

For some apparent reason, I can't add pictures to my widget ._.
Any idea why is that? Is that because some setting or something like that
It doesn't let me do the add pictures from your gallery thing :/

DELUSAIRE In reply to HiImDex [2017-06-09 18:57:30 +0000 UTC]
You can add pictures when you click that area on the widget. If there is a curser in the place where it says "click or drag a picture etc. here" then you can access your pictures from your gallery through the media tool; much like when adding an emoji to a comment. When you have all the info, title of the commission, and picture examples set up, then click "save" and save again to make everything affective. Hopefully you worked it out!

i have a question
i just did a commission and the person Gave me the points
Can i give them to another account and then use that account to commission this one? will i get cash that way? or will the points just be points? also do i NEED a paypal to get the cash?

I only know the answer to the last question, sorry. But yes, if you want cash, then you'll NEED a Paypal. Or you could transfer it to points instead.

Hi there. Thank you for this tutorial.
I have a little problem: how do you add extra points when you order a particular one and you need to pay a certain amount of points per character?

I don't get it, someone commissioned me, and I don't know how to get the points
I also don't have a Paypal... So I'm utterly confused

If you want just the points, do NOT use a commissions widget as I think you can get the points but they take a fee, instead have them donate through the donation pool or simply just give them to you

Hey what are your thoughts on this issue this user is having: banana-yvana.deviantart.com/jo…
They don't seem to be able to get their cash they earned through this widget, and in the post they wrote on the forums asking for help, people were telling them that you can't earn real money through this widget, but this is saying that you can earn real cash through the points commissions.
I'm really confused! xD;

The Commission Widget is integrated with PayPal - earning real money is not he issue. DA considers transferring points between artist and buyer accounts to be fraudulent activity and stopped the payment on those grounds.

Oh okay thanks for showing that, now it makes me realize I just didn't read it correcty to understand exactly what they were discussing! Makes more sense now!
So basically this means if you ever donate points to someone, they can never commision you via the widget? (I tend to donate a few points to quite a few people, usually it's not more then 5 points, but if any of those people wanted to commission me in the future, I wouldn't be able to get funds from it?)

parallellogic In reply to Voiii [2017-04-23 22:42:13 +0000 UTC]
~they can never commision you via the widget?
I don't know. I was going to say the staff likely use an automated tool to flag fraudulent activity, however the case you link to had a two month gap between when the transaction occurred and when the staff stepped in.
~I wouldn't be able to get funds from it?
You should be able to use it in the case you're describing I would think. The staff are addressing a more 1-to-1 relationship between the points transferred and the price of the commission.

When paying for a commission, it says password. Do I write my account password there? I tried, and it didn't work. I even changed my password to make sure it was correct. It still says it's the wrong password. What do I do?

parallellogic In reply to WilllBe [2017-03-04 20:15:21 +0000 UTC]
The prompt requires the password you use to sign into your DA account. Also, you should ensure your point balance is greater than the cost of the commission.

Earnings can also be withdrawn by check and as points. DeviantArt cannot create a PayPal account for you - the only thing that is allowed is for DeviantArt to link to your pre-existing account.

I've heard that you also had to pay a $1,00 fee if you wanted to withdraw your money from your earnings.
For example, you've got $5,00 in your earnings but you actually receive $4,00 (-paypal fees) due to that transaction fee from deviantart.
Is this true, I can't seem to find it anywhere.

parallellogic In reply to Kingxson [2017-02-22 03:37:51 +0000 UTC]
The 20% tax is transparent to you (the buyer pays $5 for you to earn $4). If your balance says you can withdraw $4 to Paypsl, that is the amount you will receive in PayPal (minus their 3% transaction fee).
Withdrawing by check has a $5 processing fee for non-Core members.

I need some clarification, is there a cap as to how much you can hold in your earnings? (I heard something about you can only hold $50?)
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
parallellogic In reply to Alystem [2017-02-16 05:38:06 +0000 UTC]
I'm not aware of any cap in the earnings balance, it's not mentioned in the terms of service. I would not expect a limit since there is nothing like that on point balance. Also, $50 is incorrect since single transactions can go up to $80

Transactions appear here

The commission widget takes a 20% cut of revenue as discussed in the deviation above, and this reduction is transparent to the artist. If they are reporting a 50% cut they may be confused by the system.

Oh, so the payment will be received two weeks later? That a long time, think.
And it's not directly received as points, but money in our account?
Oh boy, I just went through a misunderstanding sometime ago about the payment system. Thank goodness the commissioner didn't get angry on me.
