Description This tutorial explains how a buyer and an artist can set up payment using deviantART's Commission Widget.  Through this process, the artist receives CASH through PayPal.  The artist DOES NOT receive any points.  There is a two week delay between when the buyer sends payment and when the artist receives the funds through PayPal.

If you see any typos, please let me know

As you can see, this process is needlessly complicated.  To see a proposal for a far simpler system, refer to:

So I accidentally accepted another commission request from someone because I thought the points would go immediately to my account.
It's still in the pending stage so do I still have a chance to withdraw on of the commissions?

I believe you have to contact the help desk to cancel it once you've accepted the commission.

First of all thank you for continuing to actively answer questions!

I have a couple questions and I don't know if they've been answered already...can earnings be held for a long period of time, or do they have to be withdrawn or else they expire (or is there a dollar amount cap?)

Also, just making sure, you don't have to put down a PayPal until you want to go ahead and withdraw to one, right?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

parallellogic In reply to Alystem [2017-01-21 02:15:07 +0000 UTC]

No problem and thanks

There is no earnings expiration. I still have 60 cents in my balance I got when I was first testing the system almost a half-decade ago.

Right, the funds, in a nebulous form, will sit in your balance until you withdraw them as check/points/PayPal.

I used the Commission Widget to sell an Adoptable, meaning that one adoptable was set up as if it was an actual commission. The deviant already paid for it (today).
My question is if I take the "commission" from the list will it stop the clearing/will I lose the funds?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

parallellogic In reply to Snouken [2017-01-16 14:40:52 +0000 UTC]

If they requested the commission and you accepted it (clicked "yes" in the Correspondence section of your message center) then the funds should appear in your Earnings page, at which point the funds are disconnected from the Commission Widget.  If you remove the widget before accepting the commission, I believe that may void any offers that have come in, but once you have accepted the offer, you are destined to receive the funds and obligated to complete the commission, regardless of the state of the widget.

I don't know if this question has been asked already, sorry if it has, but how do I remove a commission from the widget?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

parallellogic In reply to StrikerBloodBlue753 [2017-01-16 04:01:59 +0000 UTC]

Best practice is to refresh your profile page first.  Then click the pencil icon at the top right of the widget and select "Edit this widget".  You can then click the red 'x' next to the offer you want to remove.

my commision setting tab, doesn't have the spaces for the pics, why?? -M- do i need a core membership??

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

parallellogic In reply to DolphinWaveX [2017-01-05 19:16:52 +0000 UTC]

Try refreshing your page.  There have been bugs reported when trying to add/edit a commission offer right after adding the widget to your page.  A core membership is not required, no.

May I know what do I have to do when I actually decline a commission?
I did it once and still got the 14 day clearing anyway... And the money got voided eventually.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

parallellogic In reply to WuB-Retro [2016-12-16 03:42:59 +0000 UTC]

If you hit the "decline" button, that should immediately void the transaction, no 14 day period involved.  If you hit "accept" and then some time later decide to not to fulfill the commission, you'd need to file a help desk ticket to return the funds.  It sounds like the person commissioning the artwork filed a hep desk ticket to get their funds returned, which is why your balance was voided.

Hi
Sorry to bother you. But I have an returning issue that I don't seem able to find an answer for anywhere.

I use the commission widget for my point commissions and adopts. But now and then I get clients telling me they can't use the widget
since they use their phones/mobiles and don't have anything else available. Is there any way for them to use the widget even on phones?

I have looked all over Google, DAs desk and FQA. But none of them seems to even bring this issue up.
And btw. Thanks a lot for this tutorial, it helped a lot when I started to use the widget .

parallellogic In reply to Irete [2016-11-28 04:44:14 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, sorry, I don't have an answer for you there.  I don't typically use mobile, so I'm unclear on the capabilities.  The staff have been slowly rolling out mobile features, but that sounds like something that would be rather low on their list of priorities.  You might try filing a ticket through the help desk, but I suspect they would just ask you to create a post in the suggestion forum.

Do you just upload the finished project on your gallery and send a link to the commissioner to give it to them? I thought there was a special way to send it to them through the widget...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

parallellogic In reply to BlazeraptorGirl [2016-11-23 06:30:30 +0000 UTC]

There is nothing special about the upload of commissioned work vs any other normal upload to your gallery.

Try refreshing your profile page.  There is a glitch that prevents images from being added right after the widget is added to your page.

Perhaps try refreshing the page and ensuring you have the correct tab selected?  I have not encountered this error, so I'm not sure how to resolve it, sorry.

Thank you! Someone made a commission with the Commission Widget and since it's my first time, I got surprised when I didn't get the points right away ^^

So I need to wait 2 weeks to get the points, correct? xD (Just making sure)

The transaction should appear in your message center, but you won't be able to withdraw the funds for a couple weeks, right.

You can withdraw funds as points
www.deviantart.com/account/ear…
but as discussed in the tutorial above, doing so this way reduces the amount you receive by 20% vs using the Donation Widget.
