Description
This is an inside look at how groups function, mostly to answer questions by users who don't know what features will be included or how they will function.
-.- There are probably some pretty gruesome typos in here, I haven't proof-read this just yet, please feel free to point out any you see.
I implore you to ask questions, the more you ask, the more detailed and the more useful I can make this
FAQ:
>> The number of users who can participate in a group (submit art, blogs, favs, etc) is unlimited, even for unsubscribed groups. You do not have to join the group (become a groupie) in order to participate. There is currently a limit of 100 groupies for any unsubscribed group.
>> Correspondence Items, when closed, are removed from the group message center. The system tries to reduce clutter, thus the messages can be seen in the group log if needed for reference purposes
>> Only 2 groups appear in the collections drop down at this time
>> Tips and tricks for changing the search results while searching for artwork to submit to a group can be found here: [link] , "gallery:username" for normal stuff and "gallery:username/*" for everything including scraps =Pyritie
>> There is nowhere where you can currently get a group during this alpha testing phase, you have to be hand chosen by an admin to receive one

I share a group with somebody. But the group notifications build up.
If I delete the notifications, will that prevent the other moderators from seeing them?
I really want to make my notification enter say zero.

How, as a group moderator, would you ask someone permission to include a certain artwork? Or does that happen automatically. I am very confused here

I'm not sure if this has been asked before: I submitted a join request, and would now like to withdraw that request. However, I've accidentally clicked the grey "X" (not the red one above withdraw), the one that gets rid of the message. Is there another way to actually withdraw a request?

The message is removed from your message center but still exists. The only way I'm aware of to view a request after deletion requires you to know the full URL of the request, which I presume you do not.
I would recommend that if you are accepted by the group to simply leave the group shortly thereafter (or send a note to the group mods to decline your request). Joining a group can take up to a month to be approved (after that the join request is automatically closed).

Do you have a walkthrough that shows how you can change the contributer, founder, etcs' name? Like you have groupies and such.

when i submit an artwork, i receive a notification telling me the submission is pending. if i delete the notification by clicking the x, not clicking the withdraw button, will the piece be automatically withdrawn anyway?

Are you submitting artwork using this page?
www.deviantart.com/submit/devi…
Or are you doing something with the Commission Widget? I am confused what page you are on. Can you provide a screen shot of what you are referring to?

Hello, I get correspondence requests quite frequently, but when I hit the yes button nothing happens. Is there a way to just automatically say yes? Or, if I get rid of them are they still added to that person's gallery?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
parallellogic In reply to ScorpioFashions [2015-08-19 09:25:24 +0000 UTC]
When you hit "yes" the points are deducted from the commissioner and the transaction s added to your queue
www.deviantart.com/account/ear…
in two weeks the funds are released
There is no way to automatically accept commissions. If you having many users pay for the same content, use the "Premium Content" section of the "Submit" artwork page.

Someone just asked me for permission to submit my poem to a group gallery? I have no idea what this means, or if to say yes or no.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
parallellogic In reply to TheTinyBabies44 [2015-08-17 17:48:03 +0000 UTC]
If you say "yes" our work will be submitted to the group so the group's watchers see it. The group's avatar will also appear in the "Submitted to these groups" section on your deviation. Saying "no" means that doesn't happen.

Hello, I was searching around DA on what in the world these correspondences I kept receiving -in one given hour- were really for but I read through the the walk-through you added here and the comments and I kind of understand it. Yet for me to truly understand, if the same group sends 10 requests at one time (each on a different artwork of mine but are in the same genre) it wouldn't be necessary for me to accept them right? As it may be just a bot sending those requests? I just don't want my artwork added into a group gallery if that's the case...
Sorry just wanted to be sure and have a little clarification! >.< I'm not too sure whether to accept these requests I received or not. 10 requests seems a little overboard.. xD
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
parallellogic In reply to Sinnabelle [2015-06-18 12:26:26 +0000 UTC]
I suspect if multiple artworks are being requested, it's likely an overenthusiastic user, not a bot. Bots typically only request one artwork so they can advertise to as many users as possible.

Hi, I'm a beginner in Deviantart. Since I am new to this, can you help me? My drawing received a corresponding invitation to be posted on an artist group gallery. And even though I understand the gist of it and it sounds like a very good thing, i'm still not so sure (maybe because it sounds a bit too good?) . Is there any down side to accepting this request?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
parallellogic In reply to NewBornWings [2015-03-04 06:12:37 +0000 UTC]
There isn't much to it. I'd make sure that your artwork is relevant to the group. Some groups use bots to send out massive numbers of requests (in order to become popular) at which point it's worthless to have your art featured in the group. In that case the only downside is that you're featuring the group's avatar next to your artwork (DA lists the groups your artwork is featured in) giving the group more exposure for nothing. If the group is relevant to your artwork then no ahead and accept - if there are active users in the group they are likely to comment/fav your art.

I hope this question is not yet being asked.
I'm one of the admin of a group. The other admins had sent an invitation and request to some dA artists. So the correspondence items that I received are plenty. So, I was wondering if I delete these correspondence items, will the other admins know about it?

parallellogic In reply to AmirFrz [2013-11-08 01:08:03 +0000 UTC]
If you click the "x" at the top right of a Correspondence Item, no one will be notified. That action simply removes the message from your inbox, nothing else.

Hello there. I was wondering if you know how to change the admin's names in the groups. EX: changing the founder to a headmaster, or changing the co-founder name to assistannts, ect.

parallellogic In reply to Shadow-pikachu7 [2013-08-09 19:15:56 +0000 UTC]
A group needs to be super to change the admin titles. Under the Admin Area under Manage Members I believe a pencil icon should appear when you roll over the admin titles on the left which will allow you to rename them. I don't have a super group, so I can't confirm that, but from memory I believe that is the procedure.

Groups are only allowed to have 5000 or so deviations in any given folder. If they send you an invite to submit an artwork to a folder that is already full, then you get that error when you try to accept the invite. The group needs to add a new folder for you to submit to
Which group was this from btw?

Thank you so much for putting this up, it's much appreciated!
I have a question and I'm hoping this hasn't been asked umpteen times (if so, my sincere apologies!) - if I receive an invitation to join a group as a member, and I click the 'x' button to close it, without clicking either 'yes' or 'no', does it tell the group admins that I've declined to join?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
parallellogic In reply to mischief-in-action [2012-04-01 09:17:33 +0000 UTC]
No, the Correspondence Item is left unanswered and eventually expires. The admins aren't specifically notified of any action you take on the action item (they don't receive a notification in their message enter or anything like that), but they can check the logs to see if the item is: approved, denied, expired or awaiting action. From personal experience, groups are very much an exercise in large numbers, so any specific invitation isn't that important unless you've talked with the admins in the group in order to get in.
The more common problem is that when a user receives an invite (or other CO), they may accidentally delete it, after which there is no way to access the pending (still open) invite through the standard dA interface (if you save the link, you can still access it and vote however). Removing an invite from your message center does nothing more than remove the notification, it has no action on the invite itself.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1
parallellogic In reply to ibella777 [2012-01-09 06:23:15 +0000 UTC]
No it will not. The only way for you to cancel a Correspondence Item to a group you do not control is by clicking "Withdraw" on the Correspondence Item. After the item is gone, you lose control of the CO, so it is either denied/times out or it is accepted - in the latter case, you will need to select the deviation in your gallery, edit it, and remove the group from the list of groups your work appears - that is if you were looking to cancel/undo your original action.
