Description
This tutorial explains how a buyer and an artist can set up payment using deviantART's Commission Widget. Through this process, the artist receives CASH through PayPal. The artist DOES NOT receive any points. There is a two week delay between when the buyer sends payment and when the artist receives the funds through PayPal.
If you see any typos, please let me know
As you can see, this process is needlessly complicated. To see a proposal for a far simpler system, refer to:

Is it possible to remove a sent commission? Like if you wanted one and then decided against it or something came up and you ended up needing those points for something else?

It's mostly out of your control once you initiate a commission. If the artist hasn't accepted the offer yet, you may be able to reach out to them and ask that they decline the correspondence item. If the artist has already accepted, the only other thing is to contact the staff and request the payment be halted (and it's a good idea to communicate to the artist you're doing that before hand). I think the staff may reverse payment on a case-by-case basis if you request a refund early enough in the process.

When you edit the Commission Widget (using the pencil icon at the top right of the widget) there should be a red 'x' to the right of each commission offer for you to remove them.

I'm just redoing my old commission widget for point commissions, but for some reason, I can't post up picture references or get rid of my old crappy one! Can you please help?

Try refreshing the page. DA has a glitch where you can't change the images right after adding the widget to your page.

Will DA deduct a certain % from the points or cash when it transfers to paypal? like, if I commission a 5$ commission and the buyer will pay me 5$, how much will I receive?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
parallellogic In reply to WinterMaiden11 [2016-09-27 13:03:01 +0000 UTC]
DA deducts their fee before showing you how much you have earned. Once DA shows you your balance, that is how much you have. However once you transfer it from DA to PayPal, PayPal itself will administer their own 0.30$+2.9% fee on the transaction.
I have an example in step 1 in the deviation above:
If the buyer spends 1,350 points on your commission (it cost $16.88 to buy those points), DA will tell you you can withdraw $13.50 to PayPal. Once you transfer the funds to PayPal, your PayPal balance will increase by $12.82.

I'm confused, so after two weeks, will it give me the points, or will i have to have a paypal?
👍: 0 ⏩: 2
parallellogic In reply to SwankyArts [2016-09-27 12:55:55 +0000 UTC]
After the two weeks are up you will have the option to withdraw the funds in one of three ways: as points, to PayPal, or through check.

after 2 weeks the points will be converted into USD and then you can withdraw that profit from deviantart to paypal.

so i accept the commission and i finish it and send it but the points dont go through or anything it stays pending How do i fix this?...

parallellogic In reply to PurrfectPurridise [2016-09-27 12:54:52 +0000 UTC]
Points will remain pending for two weeks from the moment you press the "accept" key on the commission. The only method to acquire these points (or cash) is to wait the two weeks for the transaction to clear.

You will not be able to see the button because DA prevents you from commissioning yourself.

I believe you should be able to enter it once you meet the minimum balance and hit the "Withdraw by PayPal" button here:

I started using this widget and just got my first commission through it and I don't think I like it lol. So I have to wait two weeks to get the points I'm owed from the person who commissioned me?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
parallellogic In reply to MissIzzyStarfire [2016-08-05 05:32:51 +0000 UTC]
Yes, there is a two week waiting period from when the commission is accepted to when the payment is released. If you desire points quickly, it may be better to use the Donation Widget instead.

StarJita In reply to MissIzzyStarfire [2016-08-09 20:26:29 +0000 UTC]
It's because the point of the widget is to earn cash from points that your clients give you. The widget will NOT allow you to receive points, that's what the donation widget is for

MissIzzyStarfire In reply to StarJita [2016-08-09 20:33:03 +0000 UTC]
Ohhhh, so will I be able to be paid in points to get the 30 (24) points I'm owed? Or will it stay pending until it can be converted to cash?

Try refreshing your profile page and the trying again. There seems to be a bug where the option does not appear right after adding the widget to your profile page.
