Description: A familiar rabbit that lived in eastern North America, the cottontail rabbit had long ears, large hind legs and feet, short bobbed and fluffy tail, which they have characteristics of rabbits and jackrabbits(or hares). The cottontails' arms are shorter than their legs, and the soles of their feet are covered in fur. When it comes from the name of the cotton-tail, which this rabbit hold its tail up for a retreat, also the underside of the tail is white. Unlike all rabbits, the cottontail doesn't develop a winter coat. They're territorial, When chased, it runs in a zigzag pattern, running up to 18 mph (29 km/h). The cottontail prefers an area where it can hide quickly but be out in the open. Forests, swamps, thickets, bushes, or open areas where shelter is close by are optimal habitation sites for this species. Cottontails do not dig burrows, but rather rest in a form, a shallow, scratched-out depression in a clump of grass or under brush. Unsure if the cottontails' social unit was poorly known? The Earth predators of the cottontails are cats, dogs, red and grey foxes, coyotes, bobcats, weasels, raccoons, owls, hawks, ravens, and snakes.
