The Forge-Wrights of the 11th Legion developed ballistic missiles to increase the effectiveness of their Legion. One fruit of this program was the spider missile complex. This short-range ballistic missile allowed the 11th to not only strike hardened targets such as airfields but moving targets as well. It had a fast reaction time, being able to fire in five minutes. Its flat trajectory made it almost impossible to intercept, enabling it to penetrate defenses.During the later years of the great crusade, the 11th deployed these deadly missiles in regiments of 20 vehicles which could be divided into ten batteries of two. Each chapter would receive a Regiment of spider missiles and then be divided amongst its Grand companies.
Like all weapon systems developed by the 11th space marine legion, they refined the spider missile complex. These included improved accuracy and a new transporter erector launcher (TEL) capable of carrying two missiles instead of one.
