Out of my many visits to the grand canyon, my most recent trip to the north rim by far was my favorite. I took one of my best photos during this trip, and even got an incredible sunset. This happened to be the most incredible sunset I've seen over the grand canyon out of all my visits. The colors in the sky just exploded and reflected back into the canyon. I was drawn to the variety of patterns in this particular scene between the sky and the canyon walls. When the sky lit up like the fourth of July, I began running all over the point shooting various angles and sides of the canyon. To be up at the grand canyon and not deal with hordes of crowds at sunset is a gift in itself, but to have these conditions just made it all the better. As far as processing goes, this is a blend of two images. One for the sky, and the other for the landscape. I kept the sky as close to how it appeared on camera while I boosted the contrast in the canyon to give some definition and depth. For some perspective, the canyon walls along the horizon are a little over 10 miles away.Point Sublime- North rim, Grand Canyon.

I have a couple of questions since it seem you are in the Grand Canyon area a lot
I just recently went to Vegas with the plan to visit Grand Canyon, so we went to the West rim since it was closest.
Have you been to all
Too see the West rim one has to pay to get close,
is that the case also for south and north rim ?
The West rim is only a few hours away from Vegas
Is there much of a difference as far as driving even
further to see the South or North rim? Just wondering for next visit

Thank you! I haven't been on the west rim so far, so cannot say if it is better or not than the views I have seen from the south, east, and north. The north rim is by far my favorite area there. It is much more secluded, and I personally think the views are better. However, many of the points I have visited require lengthy dirt roads almost boarder line 4x4. My favorite image from there came from a point on the north rim that was off of one of the only paved roads up there. My preference on the south side would be the east rim near desert view. Good river views and great for sunrise/sunset. You have to pay to enter the national park on the north or south side. Toroweep (which is part of the north rim of the park) does not require a fee, instead, it is 60 miles of rutted dirt roads.

We shall see one day if we get to visit the other areas
I was at the West rim unfortunately on a very cloudy day,
so had to play the best I could in PS to make my photos as clear as I could
and just learning to use it
just disappointed to go so far and not to see the colors pop in the sunshine
but maybe next time

Regardless of the conditions there, you can always create a compelling image. My favorite images from the canyon are the ones focusing on the details inside the canyon, excluding the sky altogether and admiring the layers and patterns.

Not impossible, I was there. I have seen even more vibrant skies. That is the beauty of the monsoon.
