Description This juvenile black crowned night heron kept picking up random sticks and dropping them in random places. Perhaps it thought the sticks were food.

maybe he's learning about nesting? if I recall correctly male herons tend to be the ones who build the nest

Perhaps, there were no adults around this bird but I can only assume that is what it was doing.

Thanks. This was shot with a 400mm prime lens and it is a full frame shot. The bird was about 12 or 15 feet away. No real "zoom" on this one.
