Hey peter, you know what's a good vista shellstyle, preferably the one you used?

just asking, do you know any good link on vista games for xp? the one on winmatrix isn't working?

I know that these q's are outdated but provide them if you can

You can get the Vista Games heregomazia.hubpages.com/hub/How-t…
About the shell: I wouldn't use any of them, because Findexer will cut off the left side. I would modify this to get a perfect look

Fast wie das Original! Super gemacht!

Eine kleiner Fehler. Die Doppelpunkte bei der Uhrzeit sind ein wenig zu "dick" (1. Darstellung)

You know my thoughts on the Metro UI, but good work nontheless.

What's the differences between this and the default Win8 one?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PeterRollar In reply to ZanaGB [2013-12-03 17:35:25 +0000 UTC]

If you see no difference, that's the biggest compliment for me. This is my Windows XP running my selfmade Win8.1 startscreen imitation. The challenge was to make it as close as possible to the original. It runs on all Windows OS.

Well, i run on Windows 8.0 and it honestly looks like an exact copy. so. congrats <3

You are more than welcome, and some times, is in copying others where creativity arises. <3

man whan are you not using  real tiles for Gimp, VMware etc ?

here you can fint Vmware at least metrofoundry.deviantart.com/ar…

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PeterRollar In reply to Orphydian [2013-12-03 17:40:22 +0000 UTC]

The reason why i still use these tiles is simple. My challenge is to reproduce the Win8.1 startscreen as close as possible to the original. And this is how the tiles look on Win8.1.

Really looks like it

its identifiable by taskbar hide and the weather.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PeterRollar In reply to AlanL9 [2013-11-22 19:34:55 +0000 UTC]

Thank you.You have good eye for details.
It is no prob to set the scrollbar as always on top. But you cannot use the taskbar anymore afterwards. Usability has a higher priority for me than perfect visuals, so i don't think i will change it.
I will try to fix the weather app. This is the result of about two hours work. Mens it is in avery early stage.

AlanL9 In reply to PeterRollar [2013-11-24 18:28:10 +0000 UTC]

looks even better now. but I don't have 8/8.1 so I don't know about the music player (CAD).

However looks perfect

PeterRollar In reply to AlanL9 [2013-11-24 22:23:53 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. Mwanwhile i managed to display this "Cloudy" or whatever thingy in the weather app. Should be almost perfect now.
About the miusicplayer. It really looks that way. But i will count each and every pixel to make it perfect. May last one or two days.

sorry, that i just remembered that win 8.1 weather expanded shows weather as a full tile, not a small sunny icon i hope you know what i mean

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PeterRollar In reply to AlanL9 [2013-11-30 12:51:14 +0000 UTC]

Sorry my english is not so good, so i am not sure what you mean. The appearance of the weather tile is now exactly the same as on my Win8.1.
You can resize each tile on Win 8.1, and than it looks different. For this size of tile it is corrrect. But as just said, maybe i misunderstood you.

AlanL9 In reply to PeterRollar [2013-12-06 03:24:15 +0000 UTC]

Good guessing. any way looks exactly like win 8.1, you could even fool Steve Ballmer. sorry for my bad grammar before; didn't notice till I pressed submit. any way nice

hello sir , it's very nice concept ....but i am more curious about how much memory it will consume ,,,,,,,, afterall every person want  nice design with low resource consumption .....thanks and it will look very nice if hard disk info display with name ("system" instead c:\ ).....

best of luck ...i am waiting for trying this awesome application .....

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PeterRollar In reply to shailendravikram [2013-11-11 22:23:44 +0000 UTC]

This is not a concept. It is fully working. As you can see in the video it uses 10-15 mb RAM which isn't really much. You can get it herepeterrollar.deviantart.com/art…
The hard drive usage text isn't static. Simply rightclick the desklet and select configure. Navigate to the HD you wanna show. The text depends on the name which is used for your HD.
Thanx for looking and commenting.

peter, you have any advice to reinstalling XP? Like how to back up the old version?
Also what is your plan after April 8 2014?
mine is keep windows 7 as backup and keep windows defender offline on my usb

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PeterRollar In reply to AlanL9 [2013-10-18 19:55:53 +0000 UTC]

I have no plans for this date, because it changes nothing for me. My updates are turned off since a while. With a good Antivirus and malware protection theri s no reason not to use it.
Why do you want to backup your old version? Making a fresh new install is always the best decision. It's a chance to get rid of all the stuff you don't need anymore.

It always seems  that you were competing with omnimo but i know your not but its only looks that way because of lack of fresh ideas.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PeterRollar In reply to AlanL9 [2013-10-16 21:40:57 +0000 UTC]

This has absolutely nothing to do with Omnimo. It is a try to make a desktop alternative in a look matching to the original startscreen of Win 8.1
The target is a screen which shows all the informations needed, to have a very good usability, and that you don't need a startmenu anymore. It is made more for fast working than for eyecandy.I use it every day, and i like Win 8.1 now much more than before.

It looks a bit unfinished (mainly graphics) but I like it  !

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PeterRollar In reply to ntim007 [2013-10-06 15:03:32 +0000 UTC]

You are right it is unfinished. But i think it is not bad for only three days of work. It is getting better day by day. I'm using it now as default to check for bugs and usability.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ntim007 In reply to PeterRollar [2013-10-06 19:16:19 +0000 UTC]

Well, it looks great. Just the graphics look a bit rough, and the borders are misaligned and rough. Just some tiny details otherwise it's perfect !
What software does it run on ?

What do you think?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ntim007 In reply to PeterRollar [2013-10-12 19:25:32 +0000 UTC]

Much better ! but they are still some small issues :
- Inconsistency with the fonts (the small news thingy at the top doesn't have a Segoe font)
- Blurry text (AM/PM)
- The battery shouldn't be a rainbow (try just using plain white)
- Blurry left/right icons in the slideshow (I can send u some clean ones if you want)
- Can the activate windows thingy be removed or is it your system ?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PeterRollar In reply to ntim007 [2013-10-13 20:39:41 +0000 UTC]

Wow! You have a very good eye for details. Thanx this was very helpful. I think it is all solved now.
I cannot remove the activate thingy because this is a leaked build of Windows 8.1 Enterprise, which cannot be activated with other versions keys.
