The lines are not transparent, but the layer itself is... I hope that is what you were asking. And to color the lines, lock the lineart layer and go over the lines with the pencil or paint tool in the color you want them to be.

I'm glad my tutorial could help! To delete a layer, select it and hit the 'trash can' button in the Layers window.

Mind if I give you a hint?
You know those things in the dropdown? Where you said to select normal, because you didn't know what everything else did? I have wonderful news. One of those is "Multiply" and that will let you color over the lines, just like you were coloring under the lines. They show right through, none the diminished.
Of course, that doesn't work very well. Fortunately, you can open the layer dialog, select multiply, and now you can do the same thing with all the layers! So no matter what layer you're on, the lineart shows through perfectly. It's a wonderful tool!

So long as your sketch lines and original image are on separate layers, just delete the layer.

Heh. We have Gimp and I didn't know what it did til I asked Dad about it in contrast to photoshop... he said "Gimp does everything." I did a search on the net, and damn he was right! I'm still in the experimenting stage with my pics but I have two WIPs in my gallery if you're interested in checking them out
