The tutorial reads well and easily, and the illustrations are appropriate. As a writer, this has limited utility except for the appended list of artists. I've known Frazetta (and Wyeth and Rockwell) for decades, but many of the others are new to me. Lots of good art and anatomy just for the viewing. And ,as ever, the more I know, the better unformed my writing can get.

Phobos-Romulus In reply to Forcedlactationlover [2015-11-29 07:49:23 +0000 UTC]

It's definitely more of a visual resource, and if it helps any writers as a quick guide for distinguishing different bodytypes, then good.

Definitely, loads of great artists in there who know heaps more than I do, I try to learn from all of them whenever I can, as not only is their anatomical knowledge superb, but their storytelling ability is as well.

As I re-read my comment, I noticed my typo at the end. I would hope that my writing would be better 'informed', rather than 'unformed'. The latter is what I'm trying to cure.

Seavannah In reply to ??? [2015-03-08 09:33:38 +0000 UTC]

Awesome! Thanks so much for this. Not only am I very happy to see drawings of bigger gals...so tired of the barbie/Arnold Schwarzenegger/Ken Dolls and have been looking to make a few drawings/3d models with the bigger/more realistic body frames, but also love the simple lines that you have here where I can see it better than looking at models all day, it is hard sometimes for me to see the simple lines in humans.

The only thing though I understand this is a basic tutorial and all... but would kill for one with the back turned I have a real hard time with that. Lol my bottom ends up either to high or too low and the back fat on either gal or guy is just very hard to visualize and get it as humanly right as I can to look more realistic. Especially in sculpting 3d models I need to start of with a rough shape first and I get lost lol.

Do you have any backside images or know of a good more in-depth tutorial for weight on humans?

Again thank you so much and take care.

Phobos-Romulus In reply to Seavannah [2015-03-08 16:25:49 +0000 UTC]

First off, I'd say to employ this technique that figure instructor Burne Hogarth lays out in this image:
www.conceptart.org/forums/atta…

If you don't have trouble with the front, you can use lines to makes sure that features line up properly from a different angle.

As far as backsides go, scope out some photo reference.
This is a good tumblr for figural reference:
figuresfordrawing.tumblr.com/

Also, there are two illustrators that are the kings of backshots, haha. First off is Frank Frazetta, and second is Paolo Serpieri(be warned, many of his images are pornographic). Those two can give you a good idea on how to draw female characters from behind.

Seavannah In reply to Phobos-Romulus [2015-03-13 01:22:00 +0000 UTC]

Thanks so much for the info! At least Serpieri has some bigger girls (to a certain degree). lol he really loves the backside, never seen his work before, thank you. I am a Royo fan but he only has women like Frazetta and not many bigger gals. Also a Joseph Michael Linsner fan and he draws bigger gals too, but not many backside either, his comic Dawn is based on a bigger thicker hips and sometimes bigger body gal but she wasn't big enough. Hard to find bigger gals and guys just simple line drawn tutorials. Yours is the only one I have ever found and it will help so much thank you.
Wish there was someone that gave full tutorials on bigger people but I have not found it except for porn and I need just an outline drawing not that because I still cant see it when they are real people, such a bad thing to say I know if I want to call myself and artist, I can see environments and structures and see things in shadows and lights but not human song know why.
Also most artist put too many muscles in the art and it is not what I need.
Yours is and at least I have that I think I will try your idea of lining it up from front to back and then go from there again thank you so much.

P.s. the reason I really want it is to make not only drawings and comics but to maybe do some fashion for bigger gals lol

Phobos-Romulus In reply to Seavannah [2015-03-13 02:34:26 +0000 UTC]

I might look up the work of Mitch Byrd as well, he likes drawing bigger girls and has a fairly simple line style.
A quick google search will bring up most of his work, but he has some stuff here as well.
comicartfans.com/comic-artists…

I have a 'how to draw' book of his scanned in, so if you want it, I can send you a dropbox link or something. If probably has some drawings in it that would be helpful to what you're looking for.

No problem, love to help!

Could you please place them in a more uniform position because it makes it difficult for me to distinguish between the different body types when they're turned in different directions.?Other than that it's a fabulously helpful tutorial.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Phobos-Romulus In reply to kenziep [2015-02-27 03:32:43 +0000 UTC]

I put them into different positions intentionally to showcase their differences in certain areas. You might see more of the changes in the body if viewed from a more side view as opposed to all of them being from the front.

I'm petite and full-figured. Basically I wish I was thinner and a bit taller but I have oc's with realistic body types instead of barbie bodies. Only two characters have a thigh gap.
