They aren't supposed to be. I was just mentioning that it is easy to overdo them/

I think it's funny how some of the negative comments really seem to expect you to illustrate every single body type out there (impossible) and also how they nit pick what you have wonderfully illustrated for us here already. Yet most their own work really needs a lot of improvement lol.
On behalf of all the people that appreciate what you've done here thank you. It's nice to see references like this.

I have a feeling this is popular just because it's a female body tutorial....
Oh well, it looks great!

Both genders are heavily idealized, but I think women's a tad more and that is why - at least in my case - the females caught my interest. Though I'd like to see one with males aswell.

Hopefully it's beyond that, but I'm sure that's at least 75% of the reason. I wanted to make a tutorial that was actually informative, as when I look up anatomical tutorials on here, most of them are just plain embarrassing. Either they're wildly inaccurate, insultingly simple or vague, or they just plainly don't know what the hell they're talking about.
Haha, rant over, thanks a bunch!

Anytime. I suck at drawing people, so when I see someone who can, I'm always very impressed.

Its also perhaps popular because girls are what a lot of artists are inspired by and therefore draw.

That too. I love drawing male characters too, but there's something special about drawing girls, haha.

Oh this is great! I need help making my characters diverse! I was wondering if there was a male version of this somewhere? It would greatly help me. I've really only been seeing very skinny guys drawn around here or very feminine guys. It is hard since most of the ref submissions are for very slender or very muscled people. Guys come in as many sizes as woman. They can be chunky, or skinny. I'd like to see a version with males as well. I looked at the tumblr link and found that helpful as well. I'm going to use this a lot.

Great tutorial!! And honestly I don't get why do people feel offended with this. This is reality.
I can consider myself kinda chubby and I don't feel offended at all! At the end, is my body type and that's not what's in the table, but the women anatomy so we can understand and draw it better! If people feel offended because of this, excuse my rudeness, but lose some weight to not be called like that. Don't except to be called thin or athletic if you're not, accept yourselves!
Great job, congratulations

EnvisageIt In reply to nevorarodriguez [2014-07-17 00:21:53 +0000 UTC]
I agree with you. I would be in the "big" section right after the chubby one, and I am okay with it. When I finished looking at this, I thought hmm.. Phobos did a great job making them all look really beautiful, so butt hurt people need to cool their jets. Most of the bigger woman drawings on Deviant aren't as accurate as they could be, and the athletic ones are seriously disproportioned, but this artist did an amazing job getting them to look realistic. This tutorial will be quite helpful, because I struggle drawing heavier women and make them not look... umm.. pregnant lol. Nice job on the picture Phobos, and I thumbs up your comment nevorarodriguez.

I completely agree with you on all of these body types, and your tutorial is very helpful.
Don't listen to the nit-pickers and the too easily offended. Their issues arise on their ends, not your end. It's difficult to portray what is traditionally a chubby or fat woman in today's culture without backlash, considering the "bleeding-hearts" movement created by the increasing number of obese women. Your depictions of the chubby, big, and fat women are very accurate.

Thanks very much. I recognized that it was a sensitive issue before I even submitted it, but yeah, people need to finding things to get offended by. It's almost like they enjoy looking for things that offend them, just so they can get on their high horse.
