For the purpose of this tutorial, it makes sense it was basically the same person with different features (like in science you have a constant when changing a variable) While, there are many different fat body types, there are many of each body type, I'm sorry you had to go back and change your tutorial (which is pretty basic so it made sense that you used the most basic 4 body types). You said these were for pin ups so your "full figure" would be about average for the time pin ups were popular. (most body builders aren't very "big" what they do is eat/drink barely anything before a competition so their muscles will pop more and flex the shit out of themselves, also female body builders legs are freakishly huge!!! Your body builder works for a tall woman) I love what you did with the breast for each size instead of just keeping them the same. Why are most of your links male? Good work overall.

Thanks, I'm not intending to offend anyone with this, so I'm glad you see what I was going for!

Thanks, heavily muscled women aren't my area of expertise, and it def shows, haha!

My links? The link on tumblr is just for bodies in general.

As for the artists listed? I don't know, most of my favorite artists, most of whom work in comics, which is a traditionally male dominated area of art, happen to be male I guess. And I guess that my favorite artists that happen to be female, the anatomy isn't what I notice first.

The fat is mainly distributed on hips and thighs for females. The only time really that the torso gets fat first is usually if the female drinks a lot of beer. (now of course that can change)

My parents are into body building so I've lived around that my entire life. My mother has also been anorexic most her life if you'd like help with that one.

If I could make a note. This reference is honestly amazing. But I have been studying female bodybuilding and girls can't get big without steroids. A real and natural female bodybuilder is very defined, small-chested, large-thighed, but at the same time very very thin. You have athletic down just right though

This tut should only serve as a jumping off point, and I would suggest researching into the work of the artists I mentioned, as well as attend live figure sessions if possible.

If some school or community center offers a live figure drawing class, with a live nude model to draw.

Good point there. Not gonna lie, as I was looking at the body types, I was hoping for an emaciated person just to show what super thin can look like, haha. Also maybe different body frames and shoulder angles and widths and that sort of thing, but hey, it's just a tutorial to rough things out for people who are looking for drawing tips! It's a lovely tutorial (I also just looked at the male one you did) and I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. It's a shame you're getting weird criticism from hypersensitive people that want the world to turn their way, at a speed they can keep up with.

Keep on rocking, dude. Love your art style.

Phobos-Romulus In reply to Activoid [2014-12-18 18:00:45 +0000 UTC]

Hey, thanks very much! Yeah, I never claimed this tutorial to be a definitive guide, just a guide on averages. I'm hoping there's enough info here that if someone wanted to draw an emaciated person, or at the opposite end of the spectrum, a super obese person, you could just take my instruction one step further into the extreme.

You can't please everyone it seems!

woops I guess I'm a bit late on the fat roll discussion party

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

TyggFestival In reply to ??? [2014-07-15 14:47:34 +0000 UTC]

The fat ones weren't very accurate, but the other's seemed pretty good.
The main problem is (and I see tons of artists forget them also) they forget about the love handles! The biggest one on the "fat" chart looked exactly just like that. Just big, and not actually fat. All of the ones on the fat chart would've been better if you actually drew them with fat on them. (e.g. bigger love handles, more rolls, basically just a dough-y look to them)
One other critic I have is that some of their legs looked super short compared to their bodies. (Like if you put your knees to your chest you can see that your entire leg is about your torso length x2)
Though, idk really about the leg length thing, you're probably a lot more experienced in anatomy than I am. xD

Phobos-Romulus In reply to TyggFestival [2014-07-15 15:05:32 +0000 UTC]

The section is called fat for adding little bits of fat at a time. And this isn't really a tutorial for more extreme body types, so I didn't want to add a lot of fat onto them. Plus, as a personal bias, I didn't want to draw really fat and doughy people, haha.

Yeah, legs can look short, but I think they're for the most part accurate. I'm sure putting your knees to your chest isn't the most accurate way of measuring them.

Thanks for the critique though, if I have more time, I'll tweak and add sections to this tutorial!

however the fat rolls wont be moticed in this position till the last model and they would be subtle but there are none.

fat rolls arnt an extreme  have fat rolls and i am only slightly above average on bmi. the chubby section should be the first one with noticeable love handles. of course only if we are going by averages. also different body types gather fat in different places this really only shows one body type in different levels of health. (with the exception of the height section)

Mostly p good, but I feel like you could have done hell of a lot better with the 'fat' section. People need to stop shying away from drawing and learning to draw chubby and overweight women, and they also need to stop objectifying them. God. Damn.

euxenite In reply to Moguryuu [2014-07-16 00:51:16 +0000 UTC]

Moguryuu In reply to euxenite [2014-07-16 13:53:30 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but this is a tutorial on 'accurate' body types.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

euxenite In reply to Moguryuu [2014-07-17 03:10:54 +0000 UTC]

There are plenty of body types there. The artist couldn't possibly fit every single body type on there. Also, your complaint wasn't primarily about the accuracy of the tutorial. To quote, you said, "People need to stop shying away from drawing and learning to draw chubby and overweight women, and they also need to stop objectifying them. God. Damn." Your comment was mostly about your issue with people not drawing fat women.

The tutorial showed some fat people. Nobody says an artist HAS to draw a certain body type, but that particular "type" was covered. Did the artist need to keep drawing larger and larger characters? Not if they didn't want to.

Objectifying? Who's doing that?

You seem to have gotten really upset by the tutorial. That's your choice. However, the artist did a fantastic job and nobody "needs" to "stop shying away" from drawing or learning to draw certain body "types". If you want to draw fat characters, okay. Some people don't want to. That's perfectly fine.

Your comment reads like, "I'm offended because of my own issues so everyone should do what I want!"
