It's about adding fat, not necessarily 'fat' people. I'll revise that section when I have time, or add more types to it.

A lot of things about you rub me the wrong way,
its hard to point out but this is something defiantly solid that leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
That and your tag line that states " your talent is god given"

I think if you're going to do a body type tutorial you should probably have accurate body types... These are all very similar in shape.

This isn't a super fantastic reference, but it's a good start to get an idea.

Yeah, I've looked at that. Love the variations in bodytype, but the size comparisons seem off when you look at their actual heights and such.

willowweeping In reply to Phobos-Romulus [2014-07-15 19:56:09 +0000 UTC]
I THINK they come out of a book, so it's likely that they were all photographed separately and stuck together so they all fit on a page. It's more the body type thing I was referencing tho, which works well enough.

I guess, the only thing, the 'fat'-bodyshape looks not fat for the most, is cause there are no 'fat rolls'. This is an example for an ideal 'curvy' body and none for a highly obese body. And, I also guess, if you would add an extra line with four obese girls, there would be enough negative comments too.
I think, you've done a great job.

Yeah, I might need to add some more entries. But that's part of why I didn't want to do it, people get offended so quickly and by nothing.

steinschn In reply to Phobos-Romulus [2014-07-15 18:38:46 +0000 UTC]
But you have done it nevertheless.
The point, so many people get offended by it, is because they just see and don't think about it. When I looked first, I thought, man it's quite difficult to label that section 'fat', but I saw and got your meaning. With the both new I hope no one complains anymore.
Thank you for that tutorial.

Forget about "highly obese", none of them can even be considered "a little chubby"! Their stomachs are all completely flat, not even a hint of a round protrusion.
He didn't need to add an extra line for "obese" women. From the start, he could have just included one in the initial lineup! He could have actually looked up varying degrees of fat women and practiced drawing women who don't look like they keep their stomach perfectly in shape all the time.
Spoilers, they're actually *really easy* to find

Off topic but you keep linking to tutorials/reference sources- I wondered if you'd seen a good one for facial structure of a variety of ethnicities/races. I'm trying to draw a more diverse range of characters and having trouble getting them to look both right and consistent.

I actually think I have exactly what you're looking for.
trilies.tumblr.com/post/356903…
The site that's linked basically takes a BUNCH of pictures, does some weird combination magic, and shows you what the average person in a particular country or continent would look like.
(If you're curious, this is what the average human would look like apparently: media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ma83px… )
There's also these for coloring: trilies.tumblr.com/post/484206…
trilies.tumblr.com/post/520264…
trilies.tumblr.com/post/506644…
trilies.tumblr.com/post/528414…
This also goes on about facial diversity:
trilies.tumblr.com/post/663831…
Two other sites I would recommend just in general would be:
1. Hollow Art. It's really more of a place where roleplayers can find PBs (play-bys) for their character, just 100x100 icons of various actors, but their search system is fairly cool and should help you find a variety of different actors in terms of race and age.
2. modelsofcolor.tumblr.com/ This tumblr. It features people of all sorts of races, and if you find one you're particular interested in, all you have to do is click the tag of their name and, if the blog has posted about them before, you'll find other pictures. Or, at the very least, have something to go off of!
I hope this is what you were looking for.

Hey, thanks for the feedback and the links, I will add more examples fairly soon. This is a tutorial with the initial purpose of helping out those who do pinups, so while I was thinking about adding more 'obese' types, I wasn't sure if they'd totally fit in with the purpose I was initially going for.
If 'fat' comes in many different sizes and ways, I think adding a whole new row is justified.

steinschn In reply to Trilies [2014-07-15 12:56:17 +0000 UTC]
I think that these are two different types of shapes. Surely chubby people have bigger stomaches, but not all have big fat rolls. So, you see every person has its own bodyshape. You also can have fat rolls even if you have a thin body type.

But the point was, that its kinda funny that all 5 ladies with "fat" have flat tummies. Because some should have more tummy than others.

Seriously, the more I look at this, the more vaguely annoyed I get.
"Resulting in characters that might not be as feminine as you like"? What if I don't give a toss how feminine they look like? If you're so held up on how "feminine" a character looks, then you're heavily restricting yourself to the kind of diversity in body types you'll be able to draw.
As for the "fat" characters... Sigh. Every single one of them has a FLAT stomach.
For anyone who cares, here's some good resources for actual fat and muscular women:
trilies.tumblr.com/post/774328… Another tutorial by a different artist.
trilies.tumblr.com/post/751033… various muscles!!
trilies.tumblr.com/post/660678… HERE'S what I was really looking for. A lineup of various athletes from all different sports, with a huge range of body types. A goddamn godsend.
And folks, when all else fails? Just google a picture of a fat woman or something.
Artist, this goes for you too. You really could use some work on the vast and varying different body types, especially on women.

Also, there's so many body types I couldn't possibly fit it into this one image alone. I added some wording at the bottom to explain this.

I read it as (body-type that has more) muscle/fat, because it also doesnt say muscuLAR, but muscle. They have higher fat levels, but that doesn't necessarily make them fat. But that's just my interpretation.

I was noting that when women bodybuilders end up working out too much, their bodies start to look more and more like men's. Not meaning to offend by any means, just an observation.
What Jessebuikink said hits the nail on the head. Thanks again for the links on tumblr though, I'll amend my tutorial.

Wait...I promise I'm not trying to step on any toes here...but, with an honest question, what was the issue with the whole, "not as feminine as you might like," bit? I really don't assume that the artist meant to offend. I think it was just a warning to those that were following the guidelines that an overdose of muscularity can lead to more masculine features as opposed to feminine features. <-----To be fair...the statement could have been left out...due to its blatant obviousness to almost everyone. The only offense I could conceive being spawned forth by the declaration would be a case of talking down to the audience...as I don't like for people to assume I lack the intelligence to discern between the branches of sexual dimorphism. Lol. However, I doubt the intent of the artist is to patronize or belittle, either. It's probably more aligned to those who are creating fictional characters and are striving to have them immediately noticeable without a hint of androgyny. If you don't want your female characters to have feminine features, I don't believe it was the artist's intent to coerce anyone into changing their stance on the subject.

I'm in a bit of a mood right now since my computer has been utter trash today (constantly lagging/freezing up more than usual, plus powers been going out, etc) so let's see if I can keep this short and sweet since I don't much feel for rambling right now.
I really don't care if he "didn't mean to". It's funny that you'd use that defense since I've been rereading Thud! by Terry Pratchett, and the main character actually mentions that otherwise decent people can be just as bad as *actual* people who mean to fuck things up. Because the point of the matter is that even if you don't mean to, you've still done it and it still affects other people. Like, a bowling ball could slip from my hands and break someone's foot and I obviously wouldn't mean to do it, but that isn't much help for the poor sod whose foot I've broken, is it?
So don't talk to me about that, it's bloody annoying. I'm not saying he's some mustache twirling evil misogynistic villain or something. If I was, I would have started out with something like... I dunno, "Everytime I see this, I get so fucking pissed off I want to throw a rabid puppy at his face". But no, I was just mildly annoyed. (Now I'm more than that, but it's not because of this particular piece.)
...I told myself I wouldn't ramble and yet here we goddamn are. SO, I'll finish with this and not go on further because I'm already sick of my shitty computer:
Because of how language works, words have powerful associations and the associations that come when you say "feminine" (whether you recognize them or not) often end up extremely limiting what you end up drawing. You'll trap yourself in the ridiculous narrow view of what society says can ONLY ever be feminine , instead of being able to VASTLY improve yourself by trying to draw a woman with every kind of body type you can find.
