Description
This is my piece for St Patricks Day 2007.The roses in her hair are infact "St Patricks Roses'.
I've got one of these at my garden - they do grow & bloom green. Only towards the end of the blossoms' life do they finally turn a pale lemon yellow. They're so unusual & beautiful.
A3 Watercolours.
Gold acid-free gel pen accents.

She's so pretty like this! I love how well you drew her hair and the yellow roses on it as well as her pretty eyes.
Beautiful work on the design of the fairy wings on the back of her too.

My scanner killed a lot of the subtle greens in this piece... In real life the roses are more green & the background has more green in it also. Wish you could see it!

Yeah. It sucks that the scanner killed your beautiful drawing.
Thanks for your response, btw.

I really like the yellow background, it gives her a lively mood to match her face. Nice detail.

Thankyou! Actually, in the original the green that's in the roses is in the background - to try & tie the two together a bit... My scanner decided that it didn't like that colour & ignored it But either way it works!

Gorgeous, this is so beautiful⦠my only thang would be to darken the background! Make it cool colors possibly!

Thanks! Yeah, a darker background would probably work better.
There is actually more green in the background (the same green of the roses) but my scanner just won't pick the colour up properly... So it looks more sandy coloured than the actual painting does... Thanks for the input though! I really appreciate it!

I'm glad the hair turned out ok - I spent a fair amount of time on it (I still have problems with painting hair.... So frustrating!)

She has such a beautiful smile--you captured it perfectly.
And I love her hair. The knotwork on her sleeves is wonderful too.

You haven't uploaded in a while--- unless I missed them. This is gorgeous. Green's my fav colour, I'm part Irish on the paternal side and the yellow background- awesome. I like the hair highlights quite a bit.

PickledPixie In reply to donnaquinn [2007-03-10 12:41:18 +0000 UTC]
You're right... I haven't uploaded anything since November last year! (well in terms of completed pieces anyways.)
Green... Well I figured that several months break from green was long enough and besides, a pink faery just wouldn't do for St Pat's Day!
I was a tad worried about the background colours... I used a combo of Yellow Ochre & Olive Green (which was also used in the roses). Can't really see the olive green in the scan unfortunately. Never mind, it is there...
I'm always a tad nervous adding hair highlights like these to my paintings... Dunno, I'm just afraid that I'll overdo it & make it all look very 'fake' or plasticy. Glad these ones turned out ok. Will have to be a bit more confident in the future... Hell the worst that can happen is that I have to paint over them to tone it down!
