Description About the MOC
This is another MOC that happened kind of by accident or on a whim. After seeing 's Grind Star I was inspired to use my Dark red and black Marbled/gradient parts to make something. The end result became a chopper style motorcycle. I suppose thinking about how the wheels come from the Furno Bike or Speeda Demon 's motorcycle is what led me to go the direction of a chopper. I started with an initial idea for the front forks which turned out very well.
Then I spent three days on the rear wheel. I didn't illustrate it here in the photos but when you turn the rear wheel, a series of gears connected to the turntable part on the other side make the hub/rim counter rotate. So if this chopper was roaring down the street the back rim would be spinning the opposite direction. This is probably one of the most complicated pieces of functional design I've ever created. I spent three days just working on this section alone. I first got it, then I spent two days refining it so that the turn table and rim were closer to the wheel. Check out a video of the rear wheel in action here .
Now I had sort of a back and a front and had to bridge the two. I struggled with this until I finally scrapped the front fork design keeping the ideas I liked(like the Pyrox mask and the Piraka feet ), doing a lot of research by looking up many photos of the key areas of a chopper to really understand how they work and build the MOC like an actual chopper(i.e making the frame, then connecting the forks, building the engine, transmission, gas tank, etc).
This was quite an interesting build in the sense that it's both symmetrical and asymmetrical at the same time. It was a lot of fun chunking through this build one actual part of a motorcycle at a time. I felt like one of the guys on those chopper shows like Orange County Choppers or Biker Buildoff that used to be popular on The Discovery channel.

This is the first MOC of mine to really benefit from me moving my laptop into my MOC room. I relied heavily on photo searching google to look at the different aspects of choppers. Looking back on it I realize I went for a "simplified realism" approach. The chopper features things like head and tail lights, license plate, gas tank with spout, brake controls and brake lines on the handle bars, functional drive line(wheel connected by Technic chain to "transmission" which is connected via belt drive to motor), engine with fuel line and semi-realistic foot controls(clutch). Though I didn't get too obsessed with the details. I thought about adding things like gauges and other technical bits, but felt they would have distracted from the simpler edgier look of the bike. Thinking back on it, the license plate is probably a bit much as well. The nice thing about Choppers is there's a great many kind, from very commercial to customization to the extreme of impracticality and everything in between. This in a way was freeing because I could make it as long or as short as I wanted, make the gas tank or seat however I wanted and I even came across some that had an open sided wheel like this one has. This also presented a bit of a challenge as I had to look at many different kinds of cycles to see what the "common denominators' where. At the end of the day. I think I did a good job recreating a chopper fairly accurately thanks to having a laptop handy to reference photos. Man I shoulda gotten into the habit of taking my laptop in with me ages ago. Now it'll be a permanent fixture in my MOC room.

I got the idea to call it Cerberus fairly early on, but the reason for it changed about midway through. Initially I was going to call it Cerberus thinking that it would figuratively have three heads, the Pyrox mask on the front wheel, the Kalmah head as the gas tank, and the rider's actual head. However several other head pieces were added as I finished out the build. So now I count the pyrox head and the two wolf heads on the handle bars as its "three heads."
For those of you who might not know, Cerberus is a rather famous figure in ancient Greek Mythology. He is typically depicted as a three headed dog with serpents all over his body, though modern depictions show him mostly as three headed dog of some sort. The serpents don't tend to stay. Cerberus guarded the gates of Hades to keep anyone from escaping. The Twelfth trial of Hercules was to subdue Cerberus without the use of any weapons.

Wow you really are serious about critiquing a bunch of my MOCs aren't you? I'm sounding like a broken record, thank you Dennis.

I have to disagree with you though, a demonic chopper is conceptually like the least original thing I've done I think. If I had to rate this, originality would be low. And using new and old parts isn't that uncommon now. So while I immensely appreciate the kind words, I can't agree with all of them. I don't want to sound ungrateful and I apologize if I do. What you say means a lot to me Dennis. Thank you so much for taking the time to write about my MOCs.

Hmm, well I didn't look at it that way when I was writing the critique. And as far as the old vs new parts, no it isn't a new concept.. except for you. Most of the times, with various MOC's you try to limit yourself to certain production years/ series to build a MOC. I'm glad to see what you would do if you didn't "limit" yourself that way.Β

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to WDenniz [2015-03-03 13:05:15 +0000 UTC]

Fair enough.

I haven't been doing that as much in recent times either. I'm finding it to be a somewhat archaic approach now that so many years have passed, and things changing from bionicle to HF, then back to bionicle with CCBS elements. I even gave up the 2010 year restriction on Matteo when I rebuilt him. Though I am still going to try and Keep HF off of him, only for aesthetic reasons. And this isn't the first time I mixed old and new parts(relatively speaking). Rodney Dieter had both Bionicle and HF on it. Old and new isn't exactly a new concept for me when I built the Cerberus Chopper. I'd also argue that Furnace, my first real MOC with HF mixed older bionicle parts with the latest HF elements(which back then were still only 2.0).

I would say my recent works are a result of me dropping the limitations and working with what ever works. Two MOCs I would point towards for that answer are Sayomi, and Bionerdly. Both use a variety of parts to achieve the end goal.

Better late than never...
This is all sorts of sexy, Dave. I really dig the Piraka feet on the front wheel, that's an absolute stroke of genius. I also like the fact you didn't make the handle bars too high up, that's just more of a personal taste though. I think they look goofy if you have to reach up and grab them, not to mention the fact that you have dramatically less control when they're that high up. Oh, and the Nuva chest plates for the motor, man that's good stuff right there<3. I would love to see how it is in real life though. I mean don't get me wrong I know it wont fall apart, just I'd like to see how it looks just cruising along.
Well done Dave, I love seeing Bionicle vehicles that aren't hover speeder things and shite.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="366" title=" (Big Grin)"/>

Thanks for that Clark. That probably coulda just been a comment, but eh I'll accept it since it won't show otherwise. And by seeing how it is in real life, do you mean the MOC or if this was made into an actual chopper?

My favorite part is the brain bug seat, but the Piraka feet fenders is my second. That was one of the first things I did and its what prompted the build really. Like you ever have that moment when you're building where you just kinda put shit together and find something and go "YES...THAT" and that moment defines what you're building then?

Before I officially begin jotting down my two cents, let me say this-... HOLY AWESOMEBEASTLYAWESOMESAUCE, BEST MOTORCYCLE BIONICLE/HF MOC IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ahem* And now to commence with throwing my thoughts onto the table.

Impactmuch: This *waves whole body at entire MOC* had me floored at the sheer epicness that was given in boss proportions. This is by far the best BioChopper I've seen for sure. Five stars, easy.

Originality?Severlyoverratedthistimearound: The fact that it's a motor cycle in itself isn't all that original, and even though demon vehicles have been done before: this one is a bit more original since it's a demonic 'chooper' motorcycle.

TechniqueOVER9000!e.deviantart.net/emoticons/f/f… " width="18" height="17" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="420" title="I think I've fainted."/>: There is too much for me to cover it all so, I'll do what I see as the most unique. First off a brain bug having the non supported area inverted to make it into a seat is an absolutely great usage of said part. Giant digger drills for part of rear hubcaps: dang man you beat meh, I don't even have any of those buggers, but since I haven't seen it done all that much megusta to you on that man. Having an actual drive belt, that's a rarity that I love. Dem Antroz wings man, they are great for helping with the shaping with this thing, great idea! I think you said this had shocks, I don't find that too shocking, but you don't see it much on two wheeled BioMOCs. The double handle bars are great too! Lastly- Dat engine area & Light up exhaust= too, much..epics and delicious complexity!

Vision?morelikealmostVisionary: I believe that you've definitely accomplished what you've set out to do for this beastly chopper. I mean that underwater set head and Rahkshi heads all look like they have the 'Need for SPEED', whilst the demon head closer to the front wheel along with the clawed hands & spike practically scream out "I'm hungry. GIVE ME THINE SOUL, MEAT!". Finally, the rear wheel covers and handle bars seem to say something along the lines of "You mess with this, you'll be on the receiving end of more than just the horns!.". *Seat says in high pitched squeaky voice- "No gaseous expulsions, or these spikes are going right up your ass bitch!" [LOLMAO]*

So yeah, overall you be a badass bike maker Dave. a.deviantart.net/avatars/z/e/z… " alt=" " title="zeecaptainplz" />

Thanks Simeon for that....Odd but entertaining critique. I like how you gave every part of this chopper with some kin d of head or face some personality. "No gaseous expulsions." HAHAH

Its funny, when I started this I thought "a chopper no big deal its been done Lego has a few sets of chopper like motorcycles so this probably won't be a big deal concept wise." I still managed to be wrong there. Vedkarrtheunbroken pointed out that he hasn't seen any good chopper or motorcycle MOCs either, so I was a bit surprised there.

Thanks simeon. Maybe I should get into the real deal.

Oh btw, I had an idea as soon as I saw the Cerberus Chopper. What if you made a holy/angelic warrior like character as its driver, and have the two balance out as a team? They could both want justice/revenge on an originally unknown demon that overtook hell and in turn Earth: transforming it into an anti-utopian society. In the process, said demon killed the angel's father when he was still a boy and bound the original devil into a Chopper motorcycle in which it transformed to how it/he is now during the process. The two met when the 17 year old warrior was on his way toward the citadel to attempt storming it, when all off a sudden a driverless motorcycle rumbles past him in the opposite direction and messes up causing it to crash onto its side: yelling out obscenities afterward. *I won't continue now, since I'd basically end up outlining the whole story with the storyline I just formulated. Maybe you'd like to read it if I did write it? Assuming that you like the idea.

Godddamn simeon that's awesome. ANd ya know I took an inventory of my thin lift arms the other night(to make an accurate BL order) and I have a shit ton of white. So I could definitely stand to use white in a MOC.

Write away good sir, that actually sounds very compelling. Or maybe we can do a full on collab story on skype.

R603 In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2014-03-03 15:05:18 +0000 UTC]

Okay then. Just to check first, are you okay with it being mostly third person pove with some first person pov parts when appropriate,? What'd you want the demon that made shit hit the fan to be named, and is the now original devil going to have the actual personal name Cerberus since MOC-wise he is now the Cerberus chopper? Will you want to make other characters, or would you like me to develop characters in the story myself?

Should it take place in an alternate Bionicle related universe? The Makuta, Vahki, Visorak, Rahkshi, and Skrall could all be different types/classes of demons. There'd obviously be vehicle technology as well as metropolitan like buildings from before what should maybe be called something like 'The Atrocity' or 'The Betrayal of the Balance of Power', that are now mostly in ruins. Lastly do we want all the Bionicle universe races available to us? Matoran & Agori can be the equivalent of normal humans, the Toa could be angels, those scorpion like bipedal guys could be Agori that were mutated into them. Evil converted Matoran become the lowest ranking demon type that is a Visorak.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to R603 [2014-03-07 12:15:37 +0000 UTC]

Ummm I like third person that doesn't break from it. But that's just the style of books I've always read. I think those are things that might be best handled in collaboration. I'm picky about names and details.

That's an interesting idea, but we don't have to be married to the bionicle concept. It could be your straight up angel and demons kinda thing. But yours definitely gives an interesting aesthetic. I love the name "Atrocity" though. That's really good. The kinda thing I go "Fuck why didn't I come up with that?"

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

R603 In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2014-03-07 14:31:38 +0000 UTC]

Okay then. Maybe you and myself both could make the bodies of said characters as MOCs, and I'd suggest names while you'd have the final say in the name? I (or both of us) could use ze stash for finished images to show you/myself for name picking/assistant name picking before posting said MOCs.

I believe that staying with the Bionicle aesthetic for this particular story would be better. I was thinking of us officially posting each character MOC when the first chapter that would have each said character appear in the story. We'd likely go by chapter so that there is more time for MOCing about. I'll write the rough draft of chapters, then show you for collaborative moderation sessions/convos.

*Just to be sure, 'The Atrocity' was meant as the name of the massive multi-part event where said unknown demon made everything into a shitstorm. If you were thinking it as the name of the now main evil city on the Matoran/Agori world, then I guess we could make it work.*

oh btw, the angels/Toa should probably be ranked as well. Going from liwest to highest- Angel without mask/helm of power without wings < angel with mask/helm of power & no wings < angel with great mask of power & no wings < angel with great Mask/Helm of Power with wings < Archangel: has Legendary Mask/Helm of Power & massive wings. *Will think of other class names later.*

As an avid fan of Lego and a closet fan of motorcycles, I find both aspects being put together is a great idea. I never understood how it worked since I didn't buy those sets, but I still loved the idea, especially when it was put into Bionicle.

As for this model, I have to say that it is one of the most badass and absolutely awesome choppers that I have ever seen. The pieces from both Bionicle and Hero Factory show how they can blend together to make something spectacular, and the use of the demonic pieces accentuates the demonic theme of the model. The glow-in-the-dark effects are an extra bonus of cool. Most of these pieces I have not ever seen before, but I will likely remember them for appearing in this model.

All in all, this is a superior model that is worthy of great praise and attention.

Thanks Gale. I don't know much about Motorcycles either. I built this thing with a lot of help from Google images and pretty much googling each section of the bike I was working on as I went. The nice thing about choppers is they come in many custom forms, everything from mundane to impractically extreme, so this is hardly a stretch in terms of custom choppers. I found some pretty whacky ones out there. And I really tried building it modularly like a chopper to, the frame got built first then the guts and all the frilly bits afterwards. Having a laptop right next to me really helped and made it a much easier and fun build.
