Description About the MOC
This is another MOC that happened kind of by accident or on a whim. After seeing 's Grind Star I was inspired to use my Dark red and black Marbled/gradient parts to make something. The end result became a chopper style motorcycle. I suppose thinking about how the wheels come from the Furno Bike or Speeda Demon 's motorcycle is what led me to go the direction of a chopper. I started with an initial idea for the front forks which turned out very well.
Then I spent three days on the rear wheel. I didn't illustrate it here in the photos but when you turn the rear wheel, a series of gears connected to the turntable part on the other side make the hub/rim counter rotate. So if this chopper was roaring down the street the back rim would be spinning the opposite direction. This is probably one of the most complicated pieces of functional design I've ever created. I spent three days just working on this section alone. I first got it, then I spent two days refining it so that the turn table and rim were closer to the wheel. Check out a video of the rear wheel in action here .
Now I had sort of a back and a front and had to bridge the two. I struggled with this until I finally scrapped the front fork design keeping the ideas I liked(like the Pyrox mask and the Piraka feet ), doing a lot of research by looking up many photos of the key areas of a chopper to really understand how they work and build the MOC like an actual chopper(i.e making the frame, then connecting the forks, building the engine, transmission, gas tank, etc).
This was quite an interesting build in the sense that it's both symmetrical and asymmetrical at the same time. It was a lot of fun chunking through this build one actual part of a motorcycle at a time. I felt like one of the guys on those chopper shows like Orange County Choppers or Biker Buildoff that used to be popular on The Discovery channel.

This is the first MOC of mine to really benefit from me moving my laptop into my MOC room. I relied heavily on photo searching google to look at the different aspects of choppers. Looking back on it I realize I went for a "simplified realism" approach. The chopper features things like head and tail lights, license plate, gas tank with spout, brake controls and brake lines on the handle bars, functional drive line(wheel connected by Technic chain to "transmission" which is connected via belt drive to motor), engine with fuel line and semi-realistic foot controls(clutch). Though I didn't get too obsessed with the details. I thought about adding things like gauges and other technical bits, but felt they would have distracted from the simpler edgier look of the bike. Thinking back on it, the license plate is probably a bit much as well. The nice thing about Choppers is there's a great many kind, from very commercial to customization to the extreme of impracticality and everything in between. This in a way was freeing because I could make it as long or as short as I wanted, make the gas tank or seat however I wanted and I even came across some that had an open sided wheel like this one has. This also presented a bit of a challenge as I had to look at many different kinds of cycles to see what the "common denominators' where. At the end of the day. I think I did a good job recreating a chopper fairly accurately thanks to having a laptop handy to reference photos. Man I shoulda gotten into the habit of taking my laptop in with me ages ago. Now it'll be a permanent fixture in my MOC room.

I got the idea to call it Cerberus fairly early on, but the reason for it changed about midway through. Initially I was going to call it Cerberus thinking that it would figuratively have three heads, the Pyrox mask on the front wheel, the Kalmah head as the gas tank, and the rider's actual head. However several other head pieces were added as I finished out the build. So now I count the pyrox head and the two wolf heads on the handle bars as its "three heads."
For those of you who might not know, Cerberus is a rather famous figure in ancient Greek Mythology. He is typically depicted as a three headed dog with serpents all over his body, though modern depictions show him mostly as three headed dog of some sort. The serpents don't tend to stay. Cerberus guarded the gates of Hades to keep anyone from escaping. The Twelfth trial of Hercules was to subdue Cerberus without the use of any weapons.

I'm the same way, I just thought it'd be cool to have a chopper MOC. The decision to make a hellish badass wasn't the plan right from the getgo but it did present itself very early on in the build.

My friend ROBOCOP603 had the idea of making the rider an angel, which I thought was a super interesting idea. I'm conflicted though, I don't know whether to go with an angel or like a full on biker badass rider for it. Maybe I should compromise and try both.

Thank you. I'm glad you like it, and find it intimidating. NOW RUN BEFORE IT GETS YOU! Β

And here we have one hack of a bike! Damn man, I'd like to see Grind Star riding that thing, although I'm not sure if the two are in the same scale xD
All the details are damn amazing!
I could list them all, but I think all of us can see them, so I'm gonna stay with listing my favorite ones:

#1-> that backrest!
wonderful part use, I do not own the part myself, but this really looks original and well shaped! Not to mention the way the backrests shape flows into the shape of the seat; just perfect! Although sitting there must be a pain for unarmed driver xD

#2-> the engine block
I can see the NPU there! Must look wonderful on the whole thing, but is difficult to make out with all the other eyecatching details around it. Still seems like you put a lot of love in that one.

#3-> the tank
Neat combination of claws, Kalmah and Rahkshi heads, the shape works out perfectly for this section and flows very well into the overall shape

#4-> the frontal mudslap
Using the mask there makes it look like a hood ornament while still having a practical use and helping the overall shape.

#5-> the exhaust pipe
It glows, that's nice feature xD

#6-> the whole steering
Using the black horn parts here supports the chopper theme and the zamor sphere launcher parts really do the trick as brakes! The wolf hats make a nice addition to the overall look (and the bikes name, of course).

That's it for my top 6 details! I see and like all the other details as well, but these six made me smile the most.
The colour scheme is overall well done, although the distribution of colours in between sectional and scattered. Maybe improving it in one direction would help. Either scattering the colours a bit more or sorting them into different sections of the bike, like on an actual painted real life bike would help, but that's just what I think.
The overall shape is very good! Especially the front and seat section works wonderfully. I presonnally would try to make the backrest even longer to create something like a counterweight to the whole frontal steering section which is quite thin and long itself.
Maybe I'd also try to cover up the axle parts of the steering, but that's just me.

My rΓ©sumΓ© is that I really love this vehicle MOC! And it is now my favorite vehicle MOC of yours! It just seems like something I'd build for one of my MOCs in a similar way, which makes me love it even more!

Keep up the good work!

Thanks for all the great things you said about this when you did. The fact you said this seems like something you'd build was a great compliment. Thanks Alex.

I was more speaking on real-world types. Those were neat, but I feel like this one has a very dynamic design philosophy behind it, IMO.Β

Oh I see what you're saying. yeah this one could actually be made into a real life vehicle. The RS-V12 probably could to but its not really based on anything specifically.

And what design philosophy do you think it has?

Kakamaking In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2014-02-25 15:20:15 +0000 UTC]

The structure hits on all the subtle details and proportions on a real chopper, but you accomplish all those things with pieces that lend themselves both to real world machines and to fantasy/sci-fi Bionicles.

In short: Real world machine made with other-wordly details.

I've always loved motor sickles, but to see a hardcore chopper made from lego?
Lets just say it's a welcome sight. I can't really find anything to bitch about with this build, so this certainly managed to impress me more than most builds.

You've really done a great job with this one, especially with the suspension up front and the engine block.
10/10 much better than your usual, and much better than any of the other motorcycle mocs I've seen.

I knew you were going to be a tough one to please. I figured if anyone knew anything about choppers it might be you.

I think that seems to be the consensus here because no one else has really said "it need ___" or so on. Like I said, I did a lot of looking at photos to try and recreate every crucial aspect of a chopper.

Thanks Vedkarr. I'm glad you like it. I've seen a few motorcycle MOCs out there but nothing that really stood up as a serious attempt by a skilled MOCer, just some pretty novice stuff on MOCpages. You'd think that such an iconic type of vehicle might have more stabs at it from better MOCers. Maybe I just haven't seen those kind of MOCs out there. Thanks again Ved.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Vedkarrtheunbroken In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2014-02-23 06:58:11 +0000 UTC]

well, you've even incorporated the brake lines and a pad for the seat by using a brain piece, and that badass pyrox skull really gives some flare to the style of the build.

Yeah, the best motorcycle moc I'd seen before your's was a shitty modded speeda demon bike. Hell, you may very well have started a new trend for MOCers, yes it's too soon to say for sure, but I already want to make one for my self MOC now.

Ya did good, but do you have any Ideas for the biker who'll man this magnificent beast? I have a couple of suggestions If you haven't. I really feel like you could go In a variety of directions with this, and although I would predict some sort of demon biker, you could always go with some kind of merc or post apocalyptic raider of sorts. I would prolly try to build something with ridiculous arms and exaggerated body shapes, like those old rat fink kits.

I look forward to critiquing the living hell out of the biker when you finish it. >:y

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to Vedkarrtheunbroken [2014-02-25 09:16:10 +0000 UTC]

Thanks Ved. Like I said I tried for a "simplified realism" kinda thing there. Wanted the important bits but didn't want to get overly technical and ruin the vibe. Badass demon bikers don't care how much gas they got or how fast they're going. And like I also said the license plate was probably a bit much. Badass demon bikers don't care bout no registration or identification. "Yes I'd like to report a stolen Vehicle"
"what kind of Vehicle is it?"
"Its a motorcycle"
"whats the license plate and registration number."
"uuuuuuuh....."

Huh really? I've just seen some shitty "i don't have actual wheels" attempts at Motorcycles. Well that would be pretty cool if I started up a trend. And I'm glad I inspired you. Your MOCs would look pretty damned cool on a chopper. And I know you'd give it your own look and feel. You've really come into your own as a MOCer and found your own kind of Aesthetic I think.

Its funny that you mention that. That's almost exactly what I envisioned to. I was thinking something that had kind of the proportions of this guy but adjusted about so the arms weren't so bulky and long, and as a biker. So basically super wide bulky torso that slims down to regular like legs.I already have a color scheme picked out to. It's kind of a weird one, and again I think I'm gonna go for a slight realism kinda thing so some odd bits are gonna be thrown in there. So you were definitely on base with that prediction. But I don't think he'll be so much a "demon biker" more a regular biker dude, but with blown out proportions.

Thanks man. I look forward to that to.

You've seen a good few MOCers come and go, so I'll take your word on that one. (even though I feel like I still have some refining to do with my style)

Oh, I definitely know what you mean about the proportions, I've made a few builds like that myself, and I can honestly say that sounds like a good idea.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to Vedkarrtheunbroken [2014-03-02 11:34:57 +0000 UTC]

Well thank you Ved. I really appreciate that. Hmmmm I guess if you're not happy with results as much as you seem to be then maybe. But I don't think any MOCer achieves 100% satisfaction with their all their MOCs. I know I sure as hell don't.

It really bugs me how people get so anal about proportions. Building a MOC with whacky proportions is a lot of fun. But I feel like you've really gotta blow em out for people to get that the proportions were meant to be off. If they're just kinda skewed everyone gripes about the arms being too long or torso too short or something. I guess its just another one of those things where people always try to fit things into some kind of correctness, even if they don't mean to.
