Description
About The MOCHowling Knight is something of a prototype for a MOC I wanted to build in the future. I wanted to create a MOC with a hooded cloak and I discovered that Lego made a hood for a Duplo figure I combined it with the tattered cape from Sir Fangar to create a tattered hood look. I find it quite effective. Fortunately though a friend who posts elsewhere told me of another method of making hoods that will be more flexible. But I still felt this guy deserved to see completion and the light of day.
He's also really inspired by probably one of my favorite Blocks of Magic The Gathering, which is the Innistrad Block. Such lovely artwork and direction for it. I honestly recommend going through and looking at the visual spoiler for that set or the whole block (Innistrad, Dark Ascension, Avacyn Restored). It has quite lovely stylized gothic artwork. While on that subject, this is a very interesting read .
Bio
This poor accursed being was once a noble knight of a king's order. One mid-autumn evening he and his loyal company had to escort a foreign Emissary back home. Suddenly the convoy was ambushed. At first they thought it was an enemy of the state, but they were far underestimating their adversary. Their foe was an ancient evil that befell to obscurity and myth--The Lycanthrope. The other men were ripped to pieces while Odric, The King's guard escaped with a deep laceration to his shoulder. Shortly after he began to feel strange, unlike himself. He blacked out and the man known as Odric was forever lost...to madness.
Now the Howling Knight roams the lands devouring farm animals and people alike, not fully a man or beast, but a marriage of the two unlike anything man has seen before, at least men who have been recording history. It turns out the old legends are true after all. While remnants of Odric remain, he is a shambled mess of consciousness, muttering to himself or screaming out in fear and anger in every waking moment. Part of him simply wishes to die and be freed from his torment...Then there's the beast, feral and of baser instinct. Every argument of the soul is one by this invasion of the soul. There is a small part of him that holds out hopes that there is some cure for such madness, perhaps a powerful cleric knowing the ancient ways. Perhaps he may some day be whole again, but perhaps he is doomed till the end of days...

Thanks. That was me taking a stab at a more stylized bio. Maybe I should try narration style next time. I need to work on my writing.
I disagree, I've always found silver to be an easy color to work with because there's such an abundance of it. However I get what you mean. Texture means a lot to people and some parts are smoother than other areas. That's just the nature of the parts with Hero Factory. I guess that's one of those things that I don't put too much importance on. For me its about the shaping and coloring. The texture of the parts can be important at times, like on Ping, but something like this I didn't bother. As for the prototype thing, no this was a prototype to test out the cloak idea. He just happened to become a werewolf. The other MOC is going to be quite different and involve tentacles.
You're right about the gray part. I would have used black but I'm out. I need to order some more cause black would have perfect here and I didn't want to go tear them off another MOC just for this one.
Haha yes, everyone loves those hands. That's pretty much been the one praise he's universally gotten. I expected that though as it's a really great hand design, I quite like it and its my most articulated hand design for that size yet. Minifig Skeletons are really useful for that.
Sorry to disappoint on a better version. I don't have any plans to make a second version of this. For what it is, I'm okay with him the way he is. Not all my MOCs are going to be amazing and top of the line for me. I know its not my best work, but it's not meant to be. It was meant to be a test, and an okay MOC, and that's what it is. So I'm satisfied with it. Thanks for the comment and compliments Lianyu.

And is there a better way to work on your writing than coming up with bios like this? Give us a few more, dear ;3
Indeed there is a considerable amount of silver parts, but most of them are quite big and detailed, at least for me who I usually build with smaller, smoother parts. I used silver in various MOCs, but building an entire MOC in silver had been a challenge for me when I tried to come up with Nemios. =/
Oh! Well, that's a bit of a disappointment, because I saw a lot of potential in this one. Still, I won't refuse the tentacle one. A friend of mine come up with a quite interesting hooded tentacled MOC too, if you're interested you can see it here: imperiotoa20.foro-activo.es/t1…
I understand that, it's a bit of a shame, but considering the complexity of your builds I'm sure it would be quite annoying xDD
There aren't quite new hand designs around, dear, so it's usual to get a lot of praise for that. Usually it's either a System build hand or the Gringat/Hydraxon one.
Glad you took the critique with no problems, I don't like to criticise since I'm not usually the best one to say nothing and I don't know if I'm being too harsh or too naive. As it is supposed to be: it's your MOC, and you're the first one you have to be satisfied with.

That's probably true. Why can't they just get along and focus on the real task at hand, eating humanity?

Zombies are total assholes. They never save any humans for the other's, and they always stink up the place with their rotting flesh. Fuck zombies. They can go rot their junk off in some corner and leave the rest of us be! They don't even contribute anything to society!

Thanks Olivia. Everyone loves the hands.
I think that's the one thing mentioned in every comment. I love em to. They're so articulate, and ya gotta love Minifig skeleton torsos for palms. Super useful that part will be for future hand designs.

Thanks man. These are my most articulated hands yet. I really like them. Skeleton torsos are super useful. I'mma gonna have to get a bunch more and start making this hand design standard and see if I can improve on it.

You could try adding covering to the torsos, like minifigure armor and such if it fits, to hid the skeletal look and add detail. Or, perhaps better: you know those neck brackets with studs that some minifigures wear for built-on accessories (example: Starwars set 9490 Droid Escape)? That particular piece would be good for adding custom detail while still allowing finger maneuverability.

www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.… I linked to the Bricklink catelog entry in the description. It was in two sets I believe. You can find them in the catelog entry page.

That's from Hero Factory's 3rd wave, Savage Planet. I want to say it's Bulk's mask but I honestly don't remember their names beyond the main ones.
