Description About the MOC
It was Wretched--Stare 's birthday recently and he's a huge Dark Souls fan, so to show some appreciation I embarked on a journey to build my largest MOC I've made in a while, if not ever. I was going to build a really huge Mimic. But that journey was short lived when I realized I had significantly less brown than I thought I did. So instead I opted for a cute Chibified Mimic . I call him Mr. Nibbles. He likes Bacon Cheeseburgers.

I designed him in a way where the legs and the "Mimic bits" all come off easily. I would have liked for it all to fold up inside, but at this size that wasn't going to happen so I opted for "easily removable" instead. The teeth fold up inside the chest though.

I think everyone who encounters them hates them. I think that's kinda the point.

That's awesome. Not bigΒ  on Bionicle but sculpt. The mimic was in the first Monster Manual. It formed as a chest because the prey was easier. The true bane of any greedy adventurer.

Lego, is a form of sculpting though. Bionicle is just another variant of Lego. I read that while reading up on it to know more about it. I like to do a bit of research with each of my MOCs that are inspired by other things. What I was wondering though was if anything else predated Mimics in culture or lore prior to D&D.

Chamjari In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2015-12-15 18:17:07 +0000 UTC]

I found this. These things are total mimics. I think D&D ran with the mimic idea for a series of creatures. Every part of a normal room was turned into something that could kill you. There were floors, ceilings, and just plain walls that were actually alive and hungry for flesh. Fun stuff.

Leshy

The Leshy is a male woodland spirit in Slavic mythology believed to protect wild animals and the forests. They usually appear as tall men, but have the ability to change size and shapeshift into any form, animal or plant. Leshies have beards made of living grass and vines, and are often depicted with a tail, hooves, and horns. The Leshy has pale white skin and dark green eyes. They are the lords of the forest and hold close bonds with gray wolves, bears, and all animal life. When a leshy is in human form it looks like a common peasant, although its eyes glow. The creatures can shrink themselves to the height of a blade of grass or grow to the size of the tallest trees. It is commonly understood that leshies will lead peasants astray, make people sick, and even tickle them to death. The creatures are terribly mischievous and have horrible cries. However, Leshies can also imitate human voices and often times lure lost wanderers to their caves. They aren’t always evil, but enjoy misguiding humans and kidnapping young women.

Huh so they can be walls and floors to? That's scary. Go to open the door and the door eats you.

I've heard of Leshy before. Though I don't really see how they tie into Mimics all that much. They don't really take on the form of inanimate objects humans use. But Leshy are pretty interesting. I could definitely see myself building one of those to.

The chest and arm are really nice looking, but I hope you fix the black ball joins on theΒ tongue, they really stick out like a eye sore and the legs look a bit odd.

fav.me/d5x0zm6 He ate up a lot of them. Also I saved them for red MOCs that really needed them. I figured Mimics are nasty looking anyways, so he's got some black icky bits on him.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadowWolfHount In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2015-12-13 18:45:23 +0000 UTC]

That look like it would only eat a few red and other ball joints would be black. Also I see your point but maybe you could give it more of a duty nastyΒ tongue look like using dark flesh and bits of dark green, and keep the metru armor, bohrok eye and that Technic piece I don't remeber what it called dark red.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to ShadowWolfHount [2015-12-15 07:00:53 +0000 UTC]

I probably should try to diversify the colors of the Mimic itself. Use some sand green and dark tan to make it look dingier. You're right there. But the black ball joints are going to stay. I'm not that worried about them.

I have never played dark souls, but I watched a play through once and I know how irritating these things might be. I must say you nailed that feeling completely. I know you are known for your giant titan mocs, so its good to see that you are also great with standard sized mocs ! Β

Thank you. I'm glad I was able to capture his annoyingness. Mr. Nibbles is adorable though. I wuv him.

I guess it's true that I'm still known for the bigger MOCs I've done in the past, however I've made it a point to diversify myself and build MOCs of all sizes, ranging from teeny tiny, to titan sized like you said. I also try to build a variety of things to.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mimic_%2… Well for starters, I believe they were first invented in Dungeons&Dragons, a game which a lot of nerds in the earlier years of nerd culture played. But perhaps they go back farther than that. From the research I did Mimics seem to come from D&D. Then of course over the years other video games and media have taken inspiration from them and applied them to their adventure scenarios. They're a great trick to throw in a game. You go to open a chest and BOOM munched on for half your life total.

This one is specifically based off the ones in Dark Souls. So if you poke at em, they get up and chase you. Not fun.

It's like a gator, just hold the jaw while it's closed and rub his underside :b

I gotta say the motif is very effective here using the more general system/bio/ccbs parts in a way that is ultimately more efficiently unique than a grey robot, mouth monster, or highly detailed lego chest can be alone.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to Llortor [2015-12-13 04:38:17 +0000 UTC]

I don't think that'll work. These one's have arms and legs that can grab at you.

Thanks. Though I'm not entirely sure what you mean here. Are you saying the mixing of system and Constraction is more effective than either would have been by themselves?

Probably. I stay well away from Yu-Gi-Oh. Their players are trash and Magic players don't generally like them. hell most of the LGS's around here don't like them.

Fortunately my friends and I don't associate with those jerks. All the Magic and Yu-Gi-Oh! players here in Memphis are as lax as can get while still being competitive.

And LGS means local game store, yes?

Ah okay. That's good to hear. magic players can be buttheads to. The ones I hang out with are pretty lax. But even from a variety of Magic players and LGS's I've gone to. I've heard some real horror stories about Yu-Gi-Oh players. the store here my town has to charge for table time because these assholes would come in, not buy anything play all night, then go next door to get food. So because they're assholes, they ruined it for all player.

But it doesn't actually transform, does it?

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to Alex-Darkrai [2015-12-12 00:00:17 +0000 UTC]

Thanks Alex. haven't heard from you in a while How have you been?

No it doesn't "Transform" like a traditional transformer MOC would. You have to pull off the legs and the inner parts and set them aside. The teeth are on bars so they fold in. But other than that no. With the components holding the box together, there's not really enough room for all the stuff to fit on. Plus there's the fact that proportionally I don't think a Mimic could actually fit in it's own chest. The game has the advantage of creating something out of thin air.

Maybe if it was bigger I could work it out where it all retracts into the chest. But at this size there's not enough room.

Hey Dave, well I'm terrible at keeping contact with people xD
I really have to work at that ...
Not much happening in my life right now.
I am still studying architecture, but I'm gonna do an internship next semester, which is gonna be a nice change for once
It's gonna be in an office for visualizing historical architecture.
So I'm probably gonna spent most of my time in a basement working at a PC 8 hours a day 5 days a week and model historical architecture, render it and photoshop it xD

That's alright. I imagine you're pretty busy with school.

That's cool to hear about the internship. That's important for actually getting a job. Is it a paid internship? Sitting around at a computer Photoshoping things isn't so bad. It certainly beats the kind of crappy work I've been doing working in Warehouses for minimum wage. I'd gladly take that kind of job over manual labor. Just don't get fat from sitting around all the time.

Yeah, it's payed. Not much but enough to make a living as astudent.
