Description
Layout Overview. Featured in this lay out is a:Head shot-I added some brown to his cheeks, recolored some areas and made additions to the horns
Back shot-The balloon tires on the back with the trans orange in the is supposed to represent exhaust.
Side shot-You can see his over all shape of his torso, positioning of the head and digigrade legs as well as his motorcycle feet best from this angle.
Closeup of arm-to better show off the new forearm that features a caterpillar track. Everything is positioned on the arm so that it can roll on the ground with out anything else touching the ground. This feature could allow him to do rolling dodges, falling backwards onto his arms while still moving.
Angled back shot-more to show of the pneumatic pumps and back of arm
Closeup of foot-to showcase where he gets the "Moto" in his name
Closeup of subshin-a neat little feature I inculded in this was the gears in the lower compartment. Spinning the wheel on the side makes the gears move. I felt this would drive the Mechanized/motorized look home even further, plus who doesn't like meshing gears on a MOC right?

Thanks Verli. Sorry for the delay, Lots of messages. The key to building a MOC like this is structure, and sturdiness. I dismantled him because he wasn't sturdy enough and to really work on him I would have needed to tear into the very core of him So I thought I'd just take him a part and start over. But I never did start over and his parts eventually went to other places. With all the multiple joints he had he still wasn't all that sturdy or stable. I could get the Version three standing up right, but that's about it. Posing was out of the question where at least with the old one I could. Really its all about support, a common goal like "the arms should move this way" is the result you want and a MOC like this needs multiple mechanisms that all help it achieve that one goal. On a typical large MOC two joint systems is enough on Him it was more like five or six in a few places, especially the further down I got because it had to hold up more MOC.
So in a nut shell, Sturdiness where things need to not move, and multi-jointing where they do.

Thanks for the great advice! My olds Devastator had multiple joint systems, but in my new WIP version I am trying to incorporate custom ratchet systems, as they are stronger. I have not yet created the limbs, so I don't know how they will hold up. Do you mind looking at my WIP and giving advice? only if you have time, of course.

You're welcome. Ratchet joints are stronger yeah, but their movement is limited. So its a trade off. I used the big ratchet joints like they have in the AT AT walker's legs for Moto's and Ryakk's shoulders.
And sorry I don't really think there's much I can offer here. I'm not at all versed in Transformer type building. ANd it looks like your building one of those "Use a holy fuck ton of parts to build a huge ass MOC" so you've got plenty of room to add what ever kind of mechanical elements you need. Just take your time I guess. Break each spot down as sort of its own MOC, nice thing is if you get it figured out on one side, you just have to mirror it on the other.

Still love the idea of the futuristic Tauren-like creature .
Personally I think the new version looks realy awesome! Congratulations, your work did pay off!
Allthough, If I may give some constructive criticism, I think the arms look a bit weird now :/. Could be just me though.
But there's good news too, I know you had a hard time making caterpillar feet for him, that must've been a pain. This idea does seem a lot better.
Keep it up, you're a big source of inspiration .

Thanks.
The new one is an improvement aesthetically I think, but a step backwards structurally. He's very difficult to stand up now, and forget about dynamic posing.
They are, I agree. Most people didn't like the arms and the tail just didn't get any attention cause I tacked it on said "its good enough for now" and that was it. It does, wheels suit Moto a lot better. Though he started out with cat-track feet when I first made him. He eventually "grew out of" them and I had to go to wheels. But now that he's this big wheels are much more stable.
Really? Thank you. I'm glad my work is inspiring. I never ever thought it would be. All those years of solitary MOCing I thought no one else would really care about my MOCs cause I never knew anyone else who did just bionicle/technic MOCs, but then I came here and it didn't take long for people to notice my work. Now my work seems pretty well known by bionicle MOCers on all the different sites. I guess you could say its inspiring that I inspire people. It definitely makes me want to keep MOCing.

Hey Dave,
Yes I must say, or actually confess, that your work has been a great source of inspiration for me. I even must admit that If I hadn't seen your MOC's I probably would never have started doing it (started a year ago now or so).
My MOC's aren't realy that big to be honest, most of them don't reach higher than 22cm (a little smaller than 10 inches, sorry for using european units xD).
I realy should post some pictures of them so you know what the hell I'm talking about .
Anyways, keep up the good work!

Denniz, its not about how big the MOC is, its about how well you made it. So it doesn't have to be big to be good. I'm very glad my work has had that profound of an effect on you, to actually take up MOCing. I'm kinda amazed actually.
I would like to see what you've come up with so far.
Definitely will do.

I bought multiples of all the sets for about three years. Then got most of all the sets from the other earlier years. I stopped getting all the sets around 2007. After that I didn't have the money anymore. Now I just get a few sets here and there.

You can look over all the structures and connections to understand how it works, like a labyrinth of parts ^^

Hmpf, there's no real critique I can offer you ^^"
I think you've succeeded in using your building style with mototaur. But there are some questions, which I have:
1. Is there a posture for mototaur where he's able to use the undercarriage beneath his elbows for moving forward? That would look pretty cool!
2. How strong are his arms/shoulders? I mainly focused on the strengh of the arms, when I builded Byorak, so he can lift his weapons xD
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to Alex-Darkrai [2011-07-27 20:30:11 +0000 UTC]
1. Well he would have to be laying backwards or forwards to do so. I've yet to actually see if there's a way to make that work. I did it more for aesthetic reasons.
2. Its strong enough to hold up his arms, but I don't know about any weapons besides the one he's got, which isn't heavy at all since I don't make him hold the weight of the Mace.

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to ZogtheAngryChipmunk [2011-07-26 22:59:38 +0000 UTC]
Well to the contrary actually. The lift arms and connector pieces are what allow me to build the bigger stuff. The connector pieces do allow for smaller builds to though. Bionicle itself is really only good for canister sized figures, if you want anything bigger, technic parts are needed.

ZogtheAngryChipmunk In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2011-07-26 23:32:41 +0000 UTC]
That's true. However, I've found that it's helpful to have both systems for either type. Bionicle adds more flexibility and design elements than Technic alone.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to ZogtheAngryChipmunk [2011-07-27 00:09:32 +0000 UTC]
Well naturally, that's what it was created to do. Bionicle is part of the technic system actually. The early sets said "Technic" right on them. It was a furthering of that system.

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to ZogtheAngryChipmunk [2011-07-27 01:34:49 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, but it almost seems like they're trying to phase it out with hero factory. Parts have less O and + holes less pins to put the parts together, therefore making it a little more difficult to use parts.

ZogtheAngryChipmunk In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2011-07-27 02:43:21 +0000 UTC]
Agreed. HF sets in general leave far less room for MOC design beyond a few recolors and supplementing Bionicle builds. Witch Doctor is the first HF so far to have Technic/Bionicle, and even he doesn't have much. I think they're oversimplifying for the younger audience.

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to ZogtheAngryChipmunk [2011-07-28 09:18:15 +0000 UTC]
You're pretty right about that. Its sad cause lego is going in totally the wrong direction. I would think they'd appeal to the older kids who would gladly fork out a bit more money for the larger more complex sets and parts. But I guess catering to the younger demographic pays more.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
ZogtheAngryChipmunk In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2011-07-28 09:42:19 +0000 UTC]
Completely. However, not only is the money coming from one audience, it's also because simpler sets can have more air and less expensive plastic. If you noticed, the HF 2 and 3 armor plates are bulky but hollow and thin.

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to ZogtheAngryChipmunk [2011-07-29 01:09:08 +0000 UTC]
Yes they are. They're putting holes and space where ever they can possibly do so. Lego has gotten to be so freakin cheap now. If I didn't know any better I'd say it got taken over by a bunch of thrifty jews.

No, its not just you. I did a lot of improving on it. I changed out the gold bohrok eyes under his orange ones that are his eyes, that puts dark colors under his eyes giving more contrast between the two colors. Plus I added some brown and stuck some of those little tiny wing pieces from the mistika collection on the back of his horns to flesh em out a bit. He got a pretty massive overhaul all the way around.
