Update 10-24-12 Updating with the bio.about the MOC
Relic was originally meant to be a toa, but as I built him, it became apparent almost from the beginning of the build that that wasn't going to be the case. So instead of "Toa Relik-Toa of time" I just have Relik. His color scheme was actually planned for what would be the rider of my Rhotuka Tiger and meant to be indicative of a Swamp" toa or a toa of air that instead of living in a jungle region hailed from a swamp. But as I was working on him I realized I needed to expand the color scheme more so I brought in the sand and dark green to the teal, flat gold and light gray.
I feel I need to give a shout out to I feel his unusual body style and the use of flat gold on his MOCs(he's got a few) inspired this build, and also reminded me I had yet to use flat gold in a color scheme.
I really like this color scheme, it by itself give me a kind of "rustic steampunk time traveler" look. Shape wise he looks like he could fly.
Structurally this MOC is one of my more finicky builds. I didn't double up on any of his joints so he's a bit troublesome to stand and pose, but he does hold relatively well even though he's a single joint style MOC. I think if I go back and work on this MOC more it'll be to stabilize his joints with standard balljoints since they come in light grey(I don't differentiate between old or new light grey). Other than the stability issues I'm pretty satisfied with this MOC. I really like the shaping, and the color scheme was fun to work with and look at.
Bio
Relik was once a Toa of air, in the distant future of the settlement of Bara Magna. While using the mask of time he was knocked unconscious by an enemy. In his unconscious state, the legendary entity known as Artakha came to him to tell him his destiny and duty required much more greatness from him, and thus transformed the Toa of Air into a powerful Titan with the mastery over time. The Kanohi Vahi fused to Relik, now granting him the additional power to time travel with the mask, though the mask was very old, rusted damaged, and leaking power. Because of this Relik was very limited. He then hat to embarked on a long journey to travel back through time as fast as possible with the fragile damaged mask to a period in time when [link] >Dume was a toa. Using his mask of regeneration Toa Duma restored the mask of time to its original state. This now allowed Relic to move through time freely and instantly.
Since relik is the only being able to move through time he focuses more on keeping the mask of time from being destroyed, therefore protecting time itself. Because he can move through time at will, he's very akin to seeing and interacting with himself. Relik has no telepathic abilities so he often has to "conference" with himself to know where to be and what to do at any given time.
Relik has also occasinally slipped into parallel timelines by failing to act being prevented by an enemy or by being killed. Sometimes he is able to correct his mistake by returning back to before the incident and notifying himself what went wrong. Sometimes though the Relik that slipped into an alternate timeline isn't recovered.
Relik also possesses a limited form of growth and decaying abilities by speeding up the growth or decaying of an object or entity. Relik is unable to teleport others with him through time as the ability to be exempt from the effects of time only pertain to him. He tried this once when tried to teleport Toa Duma to the future where his disabled self was, the result was Duma was dead and decayed upon arrival.

Hawaii ain't my ideal place either.
The only places I can dress warmly is either at the movies and the ice rink.
Can you skate?
I'm not so big on traveling...

That sucks. Even in the winter its not cold there, huh?
No I can't. I can only ride a bike. Never learned to skate, roller blade, ski, snowboad, or any of that stuff. Just ride a bike.
How come?

It does a bit.
Not really a pro at skating. I have'nt used mine in a loong time.
Same with a bike. I'm a little wobbly.
Last time I rode a bike was at a toy store earlier this year. No employees tried to stop me from riding it all over the place lol.
For one thing, I can't draw on the plane. Too shaky.

A bit? How much is a bit?
I had a bad ear problem as a kid. It always fucked up my balance, and they're connected so I wasn't that able to balance as a kid. I tried rollerblading once and almost broke my thumb. It sucked. It jsut wasn't for me. I never did anything daring riding a bike. Its just used as a mode of transportation for me.
No BMXing for me when I was a kid.
The plane is too shaky or you're too shaky?

Nipple hardening. Or enough to not use the fan.
That's scary. I've never broken a bone yet.
I'm not up for doing tricks either...
I'm just not comfortable on a plane.
:c

Oh baby. Tell me more about your hard nipples. In the winter it can get into the 30's here. Usually upper thirties, enough to make it cold, but not snow. And usually if its that cold, its dry.
I've fractured my pinky toe, and I'm pretty sure I broke some fingers in my right hand. But nothing major.
Oh I see. I've never flown so I have nothing to add to this conversation. But I don't think it's the kind of thing that'd bother me.

I was mentioning my dad's nipples. And ok. They're hard... and hairy.
I remember when I was in Cali. It was cold and it just rained last night, so there was this puddle.
So I jumped on it, and slipped right off. It was frozen.
At least no one saw that... I think.
Thats sounds painful!
All I had was sprained ankles.

So are mine. Oh that would have been funny to see.
It did hurt. I couldn't walk right for weeks. People don't realize just how much your little pinky toe moves until its broken and it moving hurts like a motherfucker.

I kid, my nipples aren't hairy.
I do to. Watching you fall on your face like a moron would be amusing to see. I remember one time I went to the mall on a rainy day and was running really fast on the sidewalk, I don't even remember why. I slipped so hard or fast that I kinda summersaulted and landed face down. it was weird. Like my legs kept going and the rest of me didn't.
I slpinted it for the first week, then just walked on my heel the rest.

Thanks MN. "a kink of the elements" That'd actually be a really neat project. Relik here would be time then since that's his true element. Even though before he was transformed into a "toa of time' so to speak he was an air Toa.
You know, you should work on your photography. make yourself a DIY light box and get a couple of desk lamps that shine good white light. It'd really improve the presentation of your MOCs. I think if you did that it'd really up the impression they give. I like some of your ideas and how you do stuff. I just wish the photo quality was better.

Its not complcated. Cardboard box, some tape and large sheets of paper, then maybe some poster board for the back drop but paper would work to. I need to make myself one. I should head over to the craft store and get the Materials. :/ I'm just lazy, unmotivated and broke.
And please, don't call me sir, or "one of the great beings." I'm nothing like that. I'm just a dude witha lot of parts from sets I got as a kid, and a lot of time on my hands, and maybe a serious attitude about MOCing, that's all.

Exactly. That's why I think most anyone can do this if they've got the resources and the drive. My friend Shaun was over and he asked how I got so good at it. I told him its not like I did it overnight. I grew into my abilities as a MOCer, or a bassist. I didn't just wake up and all of a sudden was good at something. That's how it is for those we're inspired by, they my be really good, but they had a long time to get there.

Right. It all takes practice, and I'm sure if I get a good ammount of parts, I can do the same things you can. Another problem I have is that I tend to use ready-made armor from other sets, and I just deck it out with little pieces. Does that look tacky?

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to matanui2001 [2012-10-26 19:05:30 +0000 UTC]
It can in some cases. You do alright though. Fishbone is a really nice concept. It needs a little more HF armor though. Shit, that's two MOCs I've seen recently that made good use of the pridak feet that I've been unable to find a decent use for. I guess I really should make a head out of those.

Are the iruni shields meant as armor? If so it makes the legs look too bulky compared to the body. The shields don't really add a nice shape to the legs
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to Miruler [2012-10-11 05:02:20 +0000 UTC]
They are kinda like armor. They're supposed to enhance this sort of sub theme of flying or aerodynamics that the shoulder armor portrays. I agree that they don't have the best shape. But With the teal on there, and the metru green rhotukas, I like it. His legs were supposed to look super bulky. That was the intention though. So if wasn't those parts there I would have found something else to got there. But I wanted to use those somewhere. Even though they're asymmetrical on either side.

Oh okay. Well we'll see it eventually i guess.
I wish you were more active here and posted your MOCs here as much you do there. MOCpages is a pain in the ass to navigate. You've got so many great MOCs but viewing them is tedious I find. DA really needs to develop a multiple upload per deviation platform. That's really the only thing DA is missing. After that, it'd have MP and flick beat in every other way.

Lol-Pretzel In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2012-10-04 17:09:32 +0000 UTC]
Thing about DA is that it's delayed behind MOCpages. MOCpages is where I suss out a MOC's characteristics and show the bare pictures. The DA posts generally need a bit of artsying up and refining.
That said, the only thing I'm really behind on now is a couple of recently-posted MOCs and the MOCs from the Bio-Cup 2012.

Ehhh yeah, but what you post on MP would be fine here. You do artsy it up a bit, which is nice. We get a little something extra. I appreciate that.
Yeah you've posted none of your BioCup stuff here. Its worth doing the art layouts like I Aiden an Alex do. It takes an extra couple hours for me but I've gotten more involved with mine. a basic layout doesn't take me long.

I spy with my little eye a Robo Riders piece on the chest!
Gotta say, this moc is very cool. The color scheme is interesting, the trident is very well done, and the legs, shoulders, and face are very unique!
My only complaint is that the torso is a bit awkward. It's the same width throughout, which isn't anatomically correct. Making the shoulders wider and less upward-angled would fix this problem. It would also give you the freedom to shorten his arms a bit, if his shoulders were lowered. Comparing the length of his arms to his legs, his arms are too long. Standing up, my fingertips only come halfway down my thigh, whereas Relik's are nearly at his knees!
Overall, I think that some anatomical issues are the only thing holding this moc back. It's very cool, and has the potential to be something really really awesome.

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to SVBLE [2012-10-02 16:19:16 +0000 UTC]
Yes you do. Unfortunately I didn't use the other one. I have two of em. Oh well.
Then I'd say I got what I was after, I was trying to go for something pretty unique and not seen or done before.
I got that from a few others. I agree to a degree about the body, but it was meant to be this weird shaped torso, that was something I took inspiration from Alex. I agree that this overall can use some tweaking, like what you mentioned about the proportions, but I think that'll have to wait till I can restructure the limbs.
The anatomical issues I knew I was gonna get as I was building, but I'm okay with them because once again, this is a bionicle, that's allowed. If we start nitpicking proportions then every bionicle set lego put out has some anatomical issues.
Thanks Greg. I see the potential here to. WHen I'm better able to restructure the limbs and have more parts in the right color scheme to work with I'll be able to make this work a bit better. The over idea is here though.
