Update 10-24-12 Updating with the bio.about the MOC
Relic was originally meant to be a toa, but as I built him, it became apparent almost from the beginning of the build that that wasn't going to be the case. So instead of "Toa Relik-Toa of time" I just have Relik. His color scheme was actually planned for what would be the rider of my Rhotuka Tiger and meant to be indicative of a Swamp" toa or a toa of air that instead of living in a jungle region hailed from a swamp. But as I was working on him I realized I needed to expand the color scheme more so I brought in the sand and dark green to the teal, flat gold and light gray.
I feel I need to give a shout out to I feel his unusual body style and the use of flat gold on his MOCs(he's got a few) inspired this build, and also reminded me I had yet to use flat gold in a color scheme.
I really like this color scheme, it by itself give me a kind of "rustic steampunk time traveler" look. Shape wise he looks like he could fly.
Structurally this MOC is one of my more finicky builds. I didn't double up on any of his joints so he's a bit troublesome to stand and pose, but he does hold relatively well even though he's a single joint style MOC. I think if I go back and work on this MOC more it'll be to stabilize his joints with standard balljoints since they come in light grey(I don't differentiate between old or new light grey). Other than the stability issues I'm pretty satisfied with this MOC. I really like the shaping, and the color scheme was fun to work with and look at.
Bio
Relik was once a Toa of air, in the distant future of the settlement of Bara Magna. While using the mask of time he was knocked unconscious by an enemy. In his unconscious state, the legendary entity known as Artakha came to him to tell him his destiny and duty required much more greatness from him, and thus transformed the Toa of Air into a powerful Titan with the mastery over time. The Kanohi Vahi fused to Relik, now granting him the additional power to time travel with the mask, though the mask was very old, rusted damaged, and leaking power. Because of this Relik was very limited. He then hat to embarked on a long journey to travel back through time as fast as possible with the fragile damaged mask to a period in time when [link] >Dume was a toa. Using his mask of regeneration Toa Duma restored the mask of time to its original state. This now allowed Relic to move through time freely and instantly.
Since relik is the only being able to move through time he focuses more on keeping the mask of time from being destroyed, therefore protecting time itself. Because he can move through time at will, he's very akin to seeing and interacting with himself. Relik has no telepathic abilities so he often has to "conference" with himself to know where to be and what to do at any given time.
Relik has also occasinally slipped into parallel timelines by failing to act being prevented by an enemy or by being killed. Sometimes he is able to correct his mistake by returning back to before the incident and notifying himself what went wrong. Sometimes though the Relik that slipped into an alternate timeline isn't recovered.
Relik also possesses a limited form of growth and decaying abilities by speeding up the growth or decaying of an object or entity. Relik is unable to teleport others with him through time as the ability to be exempt from the effects of time only pertain to him. He tried this once when tried to teleport Toa Duma to the future where his disabled self was, the result was Duma was dead and decayed upon arrival.

Yeah, proportions are always tricky. It's kind of unavoidable when lego hands us so many limb pieces of different lengths.

Actually that's not true. There's the Metru limbs and everything else is the same length from balljoint to balljoint.

Really? I've always thought that many of the different limb designs were different lengths. Looking at my parts, I HAVE noticed that some of the limbs are the same length, but many are different. As far as longer limbs go, there are the Rahkshi and Inika style limbs, but the Metru and Vahki are both shorter in length.

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to SVBLE [2012-10-05 17:57:58 +0000 UTC]
Yeah. The Metru and Vahki are one unit shorter than the others. Stick em all together they're the same "functional" length. I don't think anything is longer. THe hordika might be, I know the ball joints are off set from each other, not in line, but Ithink they're the same length as the rahkshi, inika and piraka limbs.

What do you mean? The glariness of the gray was like that in the photos when I took them. its all that smooth gray surface reflecting the light back. I tried to make it not so bad but in the light box it didn't really matter where I pointed the lights, it was still glary. Oh well.

The gold and turquoise contrast really well, it looks almost like he's made of copper/ bronze but some of his body has oxidized into a turquoise color. Maybe time travel causes rusting somehow

Wow I didn't even think about that. yeah The statue of Liberty was copper when it was built. it oxidized into the turquoise it is now. That's a neat idea, but to make it work the Turquoise would have to be more asymmetrical to the gold and I think there'd need to be more of it. But you're right, it totally has that look. I like how this ends up looking more like brass or copper than gold. Brass has a gold color to it anyways, so this works. Copper I think would be darker. Its a shame lego didn't make more copper colored pieces.

Well I probably could, but for what colors I used, I think this was the best I was able to do with what I had. This was another one of those "make the best of that situation" MOCs. You have any idea how hard it makes it to try and keep black parts off of MOCs? FUCKING DIFFICULT! THEY ONLY MAKE EVERY FUCKING USEFUL PART IN FUCKING BLACK! Yes there's black on it in the pins and axles, but they don't come in anything else, and if they do, they're not readily found or available.
So that being said. I think I did a pretty good job considering.

This moc for his design was done very well in my opinion. I like what you did with those dark green Makuta Teridax gear torso pieces at the back of the upper legs! [I never knew that they came in that color!]
COMPLETELY ORIGINAL DESIGN, FTW! Lol, anyways overall I give him a 9/10, since the lower arms and hands are too small for proportions in my opinion. Otherwise you did epic!

Thanks RC Yeah those were used for the Vahki's shoulders so they come in the four metru colors and black and white as well. That's not the first time I've used those parts like this either, they're also on Isra as thigh armor/meat.
Again, thanks man. Yeah I agree, the lower arms aren't spectacular but I didn't have anything else to put on em and if I did it'd make the arms too heavy for his shoulders. he's only got single joints everywhere. I'd say I hit the mark right where I was aiming for. I knew he'd get mixed reviews. Hell I even have a few mixed feelings about him. I went for a slightly more visual approach with this MOC so that's to be expected.

Thanks. I have an idea for his bio, but I couldn't get the time travel thing quite figured out. He's basically an Air toa that somehow got fused to the kanohi Vahi and became this guardian of time. He has this ability to do like a mental uplink with other incarnations of himself in different time periods. Since he's a "toa of time" for lack of a better phrase, he doesn't perceive time like we do, he's in the past present and future. Having a fighter that can move through time and know everything that's gonna happen before it happens makes him uber powerful, so I've been trying to figure out limitations to his abilities, and also figure out what exactly his duty is. I guess it'd be to protect the "true path" which is this concept that if there was no time traveling or altering, if no one moved around with it or messed with it, the universe that comes from the succession of events is the true universe and not one of the parallel timelines that results from tampering with the timeline. I guess that'd be his job, but how does he do that without altering the timeline himself? These were the kinda questions I asked myself and just couldn't figure out a solution to.

I see you have put a good amount of thought into this character! Don't be afraid to let your mind run wild!
I have put a decent amount of thought into my self moc as a character as well.
Not only does he have near infinite power over and knowledge of black holes, allowing him to create black holes choosing their size, strength, temperature, and if he wants a target for them to only affect, he can do other things with them as well.-
He can do some extreme and strange stuff with them, like using one to transport him to any place, dimension, or universe he chooses. [He always remembers every place that his has ever been, and when he wants to use a black hole to warp somewhere he'll either vanish with a quick blue flash or summon a black hole and walk into it, but he always comes out of a black hole that he chooses the size of at his destination. Also, before summoning a black hole where he makes his entrance to wherever it is he went he can choose to make his black hole that he is inside of [Before he exits it.] be a dormant one of which is invisible and has no pull whatsoever.]
Also he can send lightning surging at any a target using his mind from either a black hole that he summons or his black hole staff. The lightning has all the different possible forms of radiation coursing through it. The radiation is contained inside the lightning, and he always has his lightning be blue since it is his second favorite color to black.].
He can also with some effort create a white hole, and doing so he can use it summon anything that actually exists that he thinks of. Also when used in conjunction with black hole he can duplicate anything he chooses down to every last atom. [Except for himself that is.] With little effort though he can summon a tiny white hole under the soles of each of his boots to allow him to fly.
He has decided that he will be the protector of all worlds that he comes across unless if they are a war planet.
The rest including his origins and how he got his current body and powers [As well as new powers that he now has because in his story line he got from a certain powerful mask he took from a certain being that he duplicated and incorporated into his armor giving him twice the potency of what were originally terribly incredible powers. I will only reveal in the epic story I have developed for him.

Thanks Tom. I'm glad you like him. There's more sand green on this guy than you can probably see. There's enough there to make it work but because its mostly the socket pieces, its at the core of the limbs. That and the Sand Green blends with the gray a lot. I'm not really the kind of MOCer to use a color in a color scheme if I can only use a few pieces.
I was wondering if anyone would know what the hell that was. And I was hoping to hear from you about that. Aiden and Alex don't really have an appreciation for system integration. I can see why some MOCers don't use it, like Alex said, system has really hard angular edges, unlike bionicle where everything is rounder and there's the option for angular. There's no option in system its all blocky and angular. I stuck the Vahi up to that and I was like "oh yeah this is definitely gonna be a crown.
Thanks Tom.

I'm with Aiden on when it comes to the colors.
But it's already a good start of a distribution!
I'd do it like this:
Inner color scheme:
- body color - dark green
- armor color - flat gold
- detail color - sand green
Outer additional armor
- color scheme of turquoise and white
Sorting it like this would give the MOC a better look, I guess.
To the anatomy:
YAY! for the legs
I love the straight shapes and that the lower legs get broader compared to the upper legs.
I also like the white armor on the upper arms, maybe the lower arms are just a little to thin in comparison, you've realized that getting-broader-look way better on the legs.
The upper torso is pretty narrow. It has about the same broadness as the lower torso and that's not good. Maybe add some additional flat gold armor on the sides of the upper torso next to the visorak shield to solve that problem easily.
The head is okay. I'm no fan of using system parts too much, because they have harder edges than the bionicle parts, but here it still works out pretty nicely. Still, some more shaping of the head could work wonders to the overall look.
I allways think the head is the most important part of the MOC, when it comes to represent its overall character. The best example is the first version of the bigger head for Byorak [link] It had a completely un-byorak-like feeling to it, which I was able to correct later on.
Maybe you've already noticed it through the lengh of my comment; I see a lot of potential within this MOC and I'd really like to see it getting even better than it is right now!

I was waiting for a little more feedback before replying to Aiden's comment. If I could just move any color to any place and just magically make what ever part the color I'd like it to be, yeah I'd redistribute this a lot more, but that's not how it works for bionicles/legos. There's a reason most of the stuff is where its at, because that's what fit in that place. I've shown I can do this on other MOCs when I have the abundance of parts in what ever color I'm working so that I can layer it. Also, that's not white, that's light gray. Didn't you read the artist's comments?
The shoulders are pretty wide, but the torso doesn't really flow into them. I should probably see if I can do something about that. But he was intended to have a narrow unusual body. Like I said, I was inspired by your builds to do an abnormally shaped body for him. His torso actually curves a little bit as well. It has a very weird shape over all.The arms are kinda a reverse of the legs narrow then widen out, but in the arms that's a lot smaller. But I agree with what Aiden said it need something else some more meat a little bit.
The head, no that's just the way I want it. Actually I probably need to make the body reflect it a little bit more. The idea was that its got the gear teeth and then the squareness of the brick parts that stick up on the crown. This was meant to reflect with the system parts in the arms. The eyse though I kinda am unsure about. But it was either these, which kinda look like sunglasses, or beady little Barraki eyes.
Yeah Thanks alex for all the feedback. I could tell you like him but also pointed out what could stand to be improved. I agree, he could use some work.

Okay, go on with the improvements you wanna make, I can just comment on what I'm seeing, but you as the MOCer know best what your MOC has and what he still needs.
Nevertheless, i'm looking forward to it ~

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to Alex-Darkrai [2012-09-30 11:17:53 +0000 UTC]
Oh okay. yeah, it looks white because of all that reflection off of those big panels.
Teal, turquoise, same thing really. The official name is "Dark turquoise" on bricklink.
Again, thanks for that. And that's very true. That's why I hate it when MOCers tell others what they should do with their MOCs, or say "it needs___." My response to that is "fuck you, it needs precisely what I say and think it needs." But if someone, like you, suggests some changes, that's all good. I want your feedback on my MOCs. This one thing I think is what makes DA better than other communities, we aren't all a bunch of self centered egotists telling everyone what they should do with their MOCs, not like flickr or FB.
Your suggestions are noted though, wider upper torso, and something better on the arms, right?
