Updates4/5/12 Yet another picture update, this time its better looking...IMO And a detail collage is on its way. I also improved the bio.
1/19/12 I'm updating the picture, his arms got reworked, and he no longer has a the drill axe. I plan on giving him a new weapon eventually though. The background is a bit rough right now(needs to be ironed) I'll get that fixed shortly as well. So expect updates of the updates soon.
About the MOC
Ryakk-my first colossus, and oldest build. Ryakk Was my first real accomplishment in large scale bionicle MOCing, and MOCing in general. He's really the one that kicked it all off. After him most of the Kino Aki were quick to follow. Then followed the need for good guys to be at odds with, and before I knew it, I had a MOC collection. Of my three colossi(super titans) Ryakk is my favorite.
Bio summary
Ryakk was a Dark hunter for most of his life, being born into the faction and raised around them on the island of Odina . Taught, "you either fight, and win, or you die," he had a Spartan-like upbringing. Ryakk is part of a sub species that grows abnormally large. He soon dwarfed his brother, Ootei , as well as the other young dark hunters. Growing up as a very brazen individual, his size inflated his ego, making him think he could handle any mission or opponent, which lead him to getting out smarted and tricked a lot. Realizing it takes more than muscle to win a fight. He stopped taking missions from the Dark Hunters Guild, and schooled himself on being a tactician as well as learning sciences to create or manipulate weapons. After many years of this he then returned to the guild, and took on missions. With every success he rose up through the ranks and became a general, controlling several companies of other Dark Hunters and Skakdi.
Ryakk over time grew tired of his position and feeling like there was no rising above it. He attempted to assassinate The Shadowed One . He was defeated when most of the other Dark Hunters Banded together to defend The Shadowed One. Ryakk and his brother Ootei were exiled from the Dark Hunters Guild. Looking to capitalize on this, the Makuta Remaku allied himself with them, and they formed the Kino-Aki . Ryakk and Remaku have more of a partnership, though Ryakk is considered second in command. However, Remaku knows not to cross Ryakk, for it could be a power struggle he might lose.
Ryakk prefers taking on missions still and engaging in combat while Remaku takes on the leadership roles and responsibilities. Ryakk typically takes missions where large battles are fought and many enemies need to be defeated. When a single target or toa team needs dealing with, the other members usually take them on, unless the target is a particularly powerful one.
Ryakk's fighting style relies more on close quarters combat than anything else. He carries a few energized protodermis grenades for tactical use, but he mostly relies on his martial arts in combat, then if needed, his weapons.

I haven't found a single MOCer on here that's even close to my skill level, let alone worse than me...

Hehehe then you haven't been looking. They're out there. Trust me. In the early days of the BML we had to flag down a lot of junk. You're trying though, and we've all gotta start somewhere dude. I don't have any photos of my first bionicle MOCs. I just started off modifying sets really. Like Ryakk here, he started off as a Kikanalo with a modified head and hands, and then just grew and grew over the next couple of years. You're trying, and seeking feedback from MOCers you look up. That can go a good ways. But it all comes down to you. Only you can put parts together in a way that expresses you and your ideas. Bionicle and constraction MOCing as a whole does a bad job of teach the core principal of lego, to experiment and try your own ideas. It sets up a lot of standards and barriers, and then when we venture into MOCing we have to tear those barriers down, stop thinking of ways to use the parts so linearly. You're in the process of doing that. And you're already making efforts to present your MOCs well to. The effort shows, and that's what counts in my book. I'm going to tell you what I and others have told you before, keep at it and if you're invested enough, you'll improve. None of use started out as good as we are now, it was a slow process over time.

i've been designing MOCs for 7 years almost... Molotok was my first big one... my first REAL moc. most of my other MOCs were just basic toa with body parts and weapons swapped around...

Ah I see. Well I wouldn't call those MOCs though, more like...Sets with parts moved around. But that's how we all start out I think.

you arent watching me so you didnt see the journal, ill just tell you.
I have 2 summer projects. one of which is a custom chess set based on attack on titan, and the other is to make the four horsemen of the apocalypse out of bionicle. Molotok has been made into his final form, and he has been renamed "War"
I'm doing death next. planning on a skeleton with a fully custom torso in order to make the torso look like bones rather than a premolded robot torso.
pestilence and famine will both be challenges... Im thinking a very asymmetrical, infected looking green creature for pestilence, and for famine, something really skinny.
of course, since i'm building them how i feel like, i will be giving them armor and weapons that relate to who they are. for example: War has a sword, a spear, and a gun. Death will have a scythe, possibly two that can attach at the handle and become a large double sided scythe. Pestilence will probably have a scarecrow-esque hand with syringes for fingers. Famine would have something that has to do with disintegration. Do you have any suggestions for this project?

I've found themes like these are very good "thematic based MOC" projects. They're pretty common, lots of pop-culture references to draw on and its good practice of really sewing a theme into your MOCs. I've done this a lot to but not so much with super specific themes like the 4 horsemen of the Apocalypse but more general themes like mythology. There's a lot of various mythologies present in my MOCs, Greek, a little Egyptian, Polynesian and Norse to. I like being able to take a theme and dance around it loosely and within itself. Its more freeing that way but still give something to draw inspiration from.
As for specific ideas. Hmmm I think imagry is the best kind of thing here. If I were to create these characters, I'd draw on imagery that invokes the character I'm representing. War would be a big burly character with some guns, bombs, instruments of war. And I'd try to draw on real world influences. He'd have an AK or M16 looking gun, something very iconic. The Scythe for Death is always instantly recognizable. To me its kinda cheesy and obvious, but I can't really think of any other ways to visualize death as a MOC. Forms of execution maybe? Famine you've pretty much got, a starving person maybe empty containers representing food. Pestilence could be done a number of ways, a plague, personal sickness, a hospital patient, a drug user, which seems to be where you're going with the syringe fingers.

Yeah, its helping me with practice with a set theme.
I finished War and Death already. War is a huge burly dude with a spear, a sword, and a gun. Death has a giant scythe, and I tore up some ground cloth for a cloak for him. Pestilence I'm planning on the lopsided, infected-looking, pus-filled green creature with syringe fingers, and im going to use Barakki squid as pus leaking from him, since they're mainly yellow. i have a couple blue, but those i cant use here. Famine is going to be interesting. I decided that instead of him being famine himself, he's the bringer of famine. so hes going to be a guy wearing armor made of animal bones, and his weapon is going to be a bag of locusts. Im gonna make a ton of 2 piece locusts and fill a ground-cloth bag with them. I already sewed the bag and gave it a drawstring, just gotta build Famine and the locusts. I feel like it will come out well, if i do it right.

Shit, I'd just be happy to be at brickfest let alone display at it. Sadly I can't drive cause of bad eyesight and I've got very little money, so even getting to a convention would be a struggle for me. Let alone paying to exhibit and the hotels. Some day though maybe.
And I'd doubt he'd win for that either, I've seen bigger. He's not that big relative to some of the big MOCs people have made. He's like lower top class/upper medium. Thanks for your kind words though.

I got a lot of lego as a kid and teenager. I still get lego even though I'm an adult(and have been for a while now), just not as much. I doubled up on a lot of the sets from 2004-2006. Beyond bionicle though, I've been getting lego ever since I was 2 years old, and I'll be 26 in October.
I also use a website called bricklink . It's a great resource for serious MOCers.
I know that probably was a rhetorical question, but I like answering it seriously, so people actually know.

Yeah. Well they were always awesome for me. I got into them as a kid when they came out. I just stuck with it as it went on, and got older. Now I'm at that "college Student" level, but I've had years of constant experience with them, so I've got some skill with it.

Thanks EG. I added a third lamp to the top. A smaller clipon lamp to have light shine down from the top and do away with the shadows the lamps down below create. I need to find a way to position them higher. I could jerryrig something but it wouldn't be all that good.
