Just the lineart. ;3 The finished portrait of the girl character took about 5 hours, while the portrait of the male character took about 11. Again though, I did very different things with each image. XD

You could try a free program, like SAI or Gimp! (I know that SAI has a pen tool, at least.) >w<

YOU ARE A WIZARD AND YOUR ART WITHIN THE TUTORIAL IS AMAZING
I never figured out you could add anchor points so easily! The way I learned to use it, I just worked from one end of the line to the other, and sometimes anchor points wouldn't work well for me x'D So really, thank you so much for posting this! (And I can also taper off lines now to make hair extra-beautiful like you did!
)

Aww! Thank you! And yes, definitely add the points as you need them. I see so many people who literally have 100+ anchor points on their path because the don't know how to make curves, and I can assure you that my way is much easier. XD

Your tutorial is extremely helpful! Thank you for spending time to make such a wonderful tutorial for novice PS users.
However, I do have a question:
When I tried using the pen tool and pressed the 'stroke path->brush' after drawing some random squiggly lines, I chose the 'simulate pen pressure' option but there wasn't too much variation in the thickness of the line. Is there a way to change this? Thanks.

Popo-Licious In reply to KurunaGirl [2011-12-07 15:11:53 +0000 UTC]
Thanks!
You need to change the minimum diameter. 0% is the most tapered, 100% has no variation at all. :3

I personally prefer outlining by hand because this technique takes a lot longer but it's very useful! Thanks for making it, as now I can link anybody who asks to here!

Popo-Licious In reply to PrettieAngel [2011-12-05 04:32:15 +0000 UTC]
I think there are benefits to having a combined technique! >w< For long, sweeping lines, I always go for the pen tool, but for the face and for detail work, I always use a hand-drawn approach. :3
Thanks for looking!
