I really liked how you made a very complicated-sounding process very easy. I followed along with the tutorial and was really confident in how my lines looked. Very good job. <3

I'm finding that the pen tool is mostly what I'm using now. @_@ It almost feels like cheating with how clean the lineart is. XD

I've used the pen tool many times before and it's never given me any problems till I went on hiatus in drawing. I can't do a anchor point by itself anymore! Everytime I let go of the left button a continuos line appears! D: I have to connect the end of my anchor point to the begining anchor point in order for it to stop continuing! I don't know what to do! It's a drag having to outline a long line with your tablet/mouse
I hope you can help me out!

It sounds like something is wrong with your settings. Double check the first screenshot in the tutorial and make sure that you have all the buttons that I've outlined in orange selected. :3

I've done that And it still doesn't work D:
I don't know what's wrong

Hmm... When you say "an anchor point by itself" what do you mean exactly? The pen toll, with the settings I've provided, is supposed to make a line (and not a shape, unless your saying it DOES make a shape) so I'm not totally sure what the issue is. If you could send me a screenshot, that would be really helpful. :3

hissorihaka In reply to Popo-Licious [2011-03-16 22:11:02 +0000 UTC]
Well, I can't make a straight line or a curve line because I have to close the path. The path drags on till you close it. And that's the thing, it only seems to make shapes

I FOUND THE PROBLEM! >
Open up a canvas and click the pen tool. Up where the settings are, at the very end of the tool bar, is a serious of four buttons with various pictures of squares. (It's to the right of the Add/Delete box.) You have the third button selected; if you select the first one, your problems will hopefully be solved!
Let me know if this works! >w<

Noes! It didn't work
And I did thought of that. Tried selecting every one of the squares but with no avail. D: I think I'm just going to re-install it again and see how it goes >_O

I fix the problem!
I don't know why I have 2 CS4 PS's installed in my computer... but one says 64 Bit after it's name in parenthesis. I clicked that one to open it up and notice that the color squares in the tool box were black and white instead of being the previous one that I used yesterday! So I open up a new canvas and clicked on the pen tool and wheeeeeeeeeee! It worked!! That made my day!
Nothing else is different between the two programs, it's all to bazaar!
Thanks so much for your help though! I really appreciated!

omg... it just does NOT want to work... The Curve tool on MS Paint is easier and more effective than this. Dx
I dunno, maybe the video will get through to me better..

If you're following my instructions but are unable to get the same results, it's most likely an issue with your settings. Check the very first screenshot. :3

Open up the Brush Palette > Click the Shape Dynamics Button > Slide the Minimum Diameter around. If you need instructions for getting to the Brush Palette, check out the FAQ area in the description. :3

Thank you for this! I always hated the pen tool, 'cause I was to lazy to learn how to handle it xD
But the way you explain it makes me want to do nothing else than working with the pen tool for a week or two... or ten.
