Description
Title speaks for itself. Here's what the letters are for:
A: These are different examples of the types of layouts the horns can be in, from 1-8. If you're not familiar with the species already, the number of horns on a Sand Drake can range from one to eight, and the drake's social rank depends on this. Two horns is the lowest, Eight the highest, and one is extremely rare. One-horned drakes are believed to be demigods, despite their usually frail form.
B: Demonstrates how the triple eyelid works. Each opening has a filter on it that allows only one spectrum through. When the eyelid is relaxed, the drake appears to have three eyes and can see the visible spectrum. The filters are as follows: Extreme amounts of light, Low visible light, infrared.
C: A sand drake's colors are usually complimentary. The base color is always subdued and/or earthy. No bright colors anywhere but the eyes and interior of the mouth.
D: An average drake is depicted here. They can be much leaner or somewhat more muscular, depending on heredity and environmental factors.
E: Front paw
F: Hind paw
[EDIT] Just realize the 5 horns one actually has three horns. Whoops. I'll draw in the other two when I update the ref. For now, Ezelix is a good reference for 5 horns.

FAQ: Questions? Ask them and I'll put them here:
Q: Are these an open species?
A: No. I'm keeping them on a friends-only basis, and even then, only with my express permission. Do NOT ask me if you can make one. I will say no. You can, however, make fan art of the existing ones, which can be found in #Toria-Art 's gallery.

XD The feets aren't supposed to be tiny. I'm just incapable at drawing medium-size feets. But hey. And yesss, I love creatures with fat necks
Thanks!

Drawing out the seven and eight horned one must have taken quite a bit of tinkering, since there are so many of them to deal with, I had plenty of trouble just trying to keep up with six.

Yeahhhh. I had to start off by drawing the bases for the horns first so I could get a layout to work with.

yeah, I found myself doing that for the one I drew too, I'll have to redraw him some other time now that I have Paint tool Sai to play with... Maybe draw his summer coat, as he moved down the plateaus. Because I want to play with patterns and such...

so am I... I haven't drawn much in ages... School just saps all the urge to draw right out of you... Like, seriously... Urgh, time to warm up the tablet again.

Not for me. It makes me want to draw MORE so I can push school to the back of my mind.

well, mine involves physics, which drains one of any urge to do anything but sleep. It's all because I don't know calculus, or I would just have taken calculus based physics and everything would make sense, because then it's just whether you take the integral or derivitive of x value.

Ooh...that's very unique what you did with the eyelid. 8D
Are there more creatures from this species world with such an adaptation? /assumes there's a world for them.
Do they tend to have many different kinds of markings...markings that run in family/pack groups...or markings that range according to environment...or do they all tend to have similar markings?
I love learning about new species....I just wish I could actually finish some reference sheets for some species of my own. X3

Thank you!
There will be some close relatives of the Sand Drakes sketched up at some point. They'll have eyes like that.
Markings are pretty random, but colors and horn counts run in family groups. Darker colors are dominant traits, lighter, recessive.
