Description
This image belongs to my mother, due to the fact that it was her birthday present. Please pleeease don't download it or do anything silly with it without my or her permission. But yes.
A gundog! This took a crazy long time to draw compared to my usual stuff, which I suppose is fairly obvious by looking at it. I finally got the best kind of black ball-point back again (the cheap as chips one, ha ha ha xD), so I've been going mad with it.
Gundogs are a synthetic species native to the Earth that contains Infraflux, and are nigh indestructible and very faithful to any creature lucky enough to fall into their favour and become their master. There's a lot of superstition surrounding them, that they bring good luck and can sense lies and evil intentions, but mostly they are just good at picking up subtle malevolent behaviour from people, like any really good guard dog. They swallow small stones and sand and anything that fits down their snout, and compact it internally into spherical bullets, that are stored until they are required.
Gundogs can't bark, whine, or growl, but can make huffing, snorting noises and sharp whistles to get attention. They can also "fire blanks", making a loud banging noise, but this is usually a warning so if a gundog does that to you you should probably stop whatever it is you were doing.
No record has been made of a gundog ever dying of old age, and they are extremely rare. Like catseyes, they were all created due to a single event in the past, and once the last gundog ceases to live there will be no more. Fortunately they can survive pretty much anything.
Gundogs are very sweet, docile creatures to anybody non-threatening, and are very patient with small children or idiots.

That is really, really cool. I love the close mesh of organic and machinery that you invoke here-- it really is a beautiful piece, and an awesome fantasy creature too.

Aaah, thank you very much! C:
Technically no part of a gundog is organic really, even their fur is synthetic and probably made of weird sillicate compounds or something, but to all intents and purposes they're soft-furred and slightly warm and feel just like very solid dogs, hee hee.

That doesn't really surprise me; they look organic in only a surreal way, blurring the line between what lives and what simply exists.

About.. uh.. wolfhound to border collie height? Longer neck though. It depends a bit on the individual, as no two are quite the same.

Awesome X3 If someone gains their loyalty and then dies, does the Gundog continue to protect their decedents or do they find a new master?

They will resume wandering around, sometimes across continents, if their owner's children no longer need protecting and are not "special" like the original owner.
If you own a gundog, it's like a badge that you're a trustworthy, good person.
