Description
Companion study to the Linguafoeda acheronsis draconis piece. Yes, I said "study". My mad plans for an epic battle between the Paladin and the Dragon call for an extensively detailed set of half-plate-and-chainmail armor for the Predator, so I had to draw it out (in a really awkward pose...) in order to see how it would all fit together, and whether or not our intrepid warrior would be able to move beneath all that metal. My points of reference for this armor style come from the Lord of the Rings movies - Sauron with a dash of Elendil, mostly from the concept sketches rather than the movie itself.

ok...question...so for your colored version...did u just draw the outline(this picture) and like print it out to use as the base of your color version? like used it as a "coloring sheet"..if u get what i'm asking?! lol...i'm just curious how u color your art...

I used this very same drawing - no print out, just the original. I painted it with watercolor. When the watercolor was all dry, I used colored pencils over the top of it.

Thank you. It's definitely one of the more elaborate armor designs I've attempted.

That armor was truly a pain in the butt to design, but it turned out very satisfactorily. I probably won't change much of the design for the final artwork.
It didn't take as long as all that - working with the Lord of the Rings resources in front of me, I'm able to input-into-eyes-and-brain/output-to-hand pretty quickly. Maybe two or three hours for the initial drawing, then a couple-three hours for inking.

Ohhhh, nononono, I do not kid about details. Details are the lifeblood of most of my current drawing.
Thanks very much for your kind compliments.

Beautiful detail and design. I wonder if i could ask if he could stop by and cut some very tough weeds in our yard? Perhaps that might not be such a good idea.....Predators aren't exactly known for their jolly sense of humor.

LOL - You can always *ask*... And we find that it's the hunters that are such sticks in the mud. The Predator scholars and the law enforcement folks still remember how to laugh.

I wonder where did you find the concept sketches from LOTR. Tho I have to admit that this is a very interesting mix of all three. Looks very mighty.

Thank you!
When the LOTR movies came out, there also was a book for each one that showed the concept sketches and color tests, arms and armor, settings, and creatures. This is the specific book that I used ---> [link] There is one for each movie, and also a fourth book that was published later that contained some artwork that they did not include in the first three books.

what's next?.....
you gonna give him a cape and bat ears?
or a yautja energy reactor in his chest and paint his armour yellow and red?

LMAO - NO, I probably won't go quite that far. DC Comics already did a thing like that several years ago (where all the Predators copied the superheroes' costumes and abilities). It was SILLY. I'm going for something more like Grand and Ostentatious.
