Description
This is a kiriban for . He was one of the people who captured the 95,000th pageview a while back.Negoxe357 asked for a "shogun Predator," which I took to mean something like the killers from AvP Three World War. However, there're also *actual* shoguns to consider, which meant that I needed to do a bit of research. This fellow, then, is the result of a merry mush of inspiration from The Last Samurai, historical shogun-type armor, and my Samurai Spawn action figures.
Yes, this was an absolute bear to color. I was crazy to use this much detail. But you know I'm probably going to do it again and again and again... Because I *love* the end result.
Ink, watercolor, Prismacolor pencils.

you know, I absolutely love this, i've read my share of the classic predator comics and this lines up perfectly, the armor the color, the weapons even the stance, This is something i would love to see in a comic, fan or official,, it just screams retro to me. Keep up the good work

Thanks very much!
The early comics made a big impression on me back when I was in high school, and I still look to them (and to my McFarlane toys...) when I really want to make the Predator characters spectacular. It looked like they were trying to go that direction a little bit in Three World War, visually speaking, but I really still like the aesthetic of laquered wood, metal, and horn.

I have to say the thing about this that i love the most is the green skin, not all Yautja have the same pale yellow, like the idea for one i had a while ago, though i lake the artistic skill to draw/paint it. the armor its self is complicated but when you break it down it does follow the same basic design of other Yautja armor, specificly in the bio mask.

This one was an absolute bear to color, too. At 9x12 inches, all of those armor plates are TINY. I really should have blown this one up to a 14x17 or something, or maybe colored it digitally. Urgh. I'll remember that for next time, I hope.

I had to take it in several sittings... And coloring this booger was definitely the most challenging part. Those armor plates are *tiny*.

Yeah, that samurai-ish helmet design was the one thing I rather liked about the "killer" Predator designs from the last couple of rounds of comics.

Dark Horse publishes all of the 20th Century Fox properties, including Aliens and Predator. They have for the last twenty years. The latest releases were Aliens vs Predator: Three World War, and a four-issue Predator miniseries. There was a four-issue Aliens miniseries before that, and both the Aliens and Predator serieses fed into the AvP story. The AvP story picks up and ties off some loose ends left over from Aliens: Berzerker, AvP: War, and the original AvP series from the early nineties. While the older comics and even the graphic novels are difficult to acquire these days, Dark Horse has started publishing these omnibus things that contain ALL of the comics, in the proper order and everything. Go check out their site if you want to see what I'm rambling about - they have six volumes of Aliens omnibuses, four of Predator, and two of Aliens vs Predator. Great stuff. Bloody, gory fun. Here's a link to DHP's website with some of the omnibuses --> [link] I don't think you can order straight from the company, but you *can* get ahold of everything on Amazon and Barnes and Noble, and if you have a local comic book retailer, they can certainly order them in for you. Well worth the trouble if you're a fan of either or both series.
