Description Character concept by

This is Agent Sarah's Predator Jedi character called Tattoo. And I gotta tell you - this pic was as much about PURPLE LIGHTNING as it was about the character himself.

I drew this with Prismacolors on toned paper. I still don't particularly like the way that my scanner picks up on the texture of the paper, so I probably won't be doing many more with this particular brand.

Wow - DA has done that to a couple of other people that ususally watch me, too. I don't *think* I've lost anybody from my list, but now that you've given me a heads-up, I shall check. Thanks for adding me back in!

Purple-crackly-lightning! I love the lightning effect, it turned out great! Gives the lighting a dynamic feel. ;>

My scanner hates any sort of black or dark paper. Colored paper it does well with, even textured, but anything that's dark blue, grey, green or black it wigs out on. I usually have to heavily tweak it in Photoshop to get the background to look solid, which always has an adverse effect on the overall piece. Guess tech just isn't quite high enough for that yet.

There must be a solution, though. I find that my scanner has trouble if there's a large amount of any particular color - blue, red, black, green - anything. One way I get around that is by scanning in a white border. That seems to even out the value range. If I have one large block of color (especially for pictures that have a whole lot of blue in them like Deep Rising 7 did), I actually take strips of bright red and green and lay them on either side of the blue picture. I include those color strips in the scan to even out the color tonal range - it seems to help quite a bit, particularly with the blue pics.

Wow, I hadn't thought of that! I'll give it a try next time I have a monotone type work, see if my scanner behaves better. It generally only has a problem on dark colors, but the overall balance might improve. Thanks so much for sharing the tip! :>

I'm glad to help!

I stumbled onto that idea when I remembered working with one of my friends from college who had been making videos. He had to "balance the white" in his videos by using a big white card to calibrate the camera's color pickups (or somesuch techno-mumbo-jumbo), but that got me thinking that the same is true of the scanner - it always says "adjusting lamp" when it does its first scan of the day, so I figure that it was calibrating against something. And if it's calibrating against a lot of blue, the color calibration, naturally, is giong to be skewed!

*smacks forhead* I used to white-balance video cameras all the time when I worked in TV, and I work with the white balance on my 300D all the time. Heh, I never even thought of it! Great job 'connecting the dots'. I'll give it a whirl next time I scan something. :>

Such dynamic colour and structure the pose has been weel compliment by the powerof the colouring. It is amzaing the way you have use soft pastel colours to create a powerful piece, shows a lot of skill.

Thumbs up!
