This is a piece in trade with . This is her Predator character Kai'Sin'Dai, about to enjoy a large plate of calamari with lemon zest.
I've been thinking about female Predators for a while now, and it occurs to me that the vast majority of them that I see on DeviantArt, and even in our AvPalternative club, are buck-nekkid, or nearly so. Humanoid anatomy is fun to draw! But you can't fight unholy space squids in your birthday suit.
So Kate-Monster gave me permission to design armor for Kai, which task I found to be enormous fun, as always. I think the armor design is one of the things that I liked about the original Predator designs from the first two Predator movies. There's a touch of the ornate, a touch of the tribal, and it's often somewhat asymmetrical. I can dig that.

Again, I love how you do armor. And I also like how feminine this particular set of armor looks. It's more sleek, almost sexy, than your usual armor.
And the highlights on the tentacley mass are wonderful, too!!

My trade partner wanted me to keep a feminine look to this Predator; her initial drawing shows a very waif-like character. I bulked her up a wee bit, but tried to keep that sleek, thin look as much as I could. The armor was just FUN. It's a variation on the classic designs I've always used, but I wanted something just different enough to be unique for this character, thus the half-moon motif.

Beautiful and scary at the same time!(rather like some women I used to know) As for fighting in armor or au natural, I wouldn't fight a Predator in anything less protective than a Bradley tank

LOL - Bradley FTW. And even then, it might not be enough. There was one comic that showed a couple of Predators dismantling a WWI-era tank to get at the squishy humans inside.

A simple triadic color scheme looked like it would work well; after I colored the Predator's armor red, the idea to use a blue-ring octopus' colors seemed amusingly adroidt.

I really dig the blue spots on the squid, they really make for a colorful POP! And her armor is quite keen, nice to see someone who goes into battle with appropriate attire!

I just never could get around that whole Fight Nekkid! thing. Not even in ancient Greece. That, and it's much more fun to draw overly ornate armor anyway.

It was such a lark of a color job - once the Predator ended up being strongly on the red side, I figured I'd go with a basic triadic color scheme and make the space squid into a blue-ring octopus. The harmony amuses me and pleases me at the same time.

wow. this is beautiful! the outcome is just...it blew me away! this is exactly how i pictured her to look. her dreds are gorgeous! the spot clusters on her scales were placed closely together just right C: the red you chose for her armor fits perfectly! especially the way you added the golden outer rims. shiny..... 
i have to say, the squid is dazzilingly beautiful! the colors are so vibrant and mingle perfectly!
the background looks as if she is in a desert type landscape, am i correct?
overall, you have totally made my day today! yet i am still hitting my head against the wall about what i am working with! XDDD i have not draw preds in a while and i am in the mix of yours. i am going to push myself to work on it this weekend and next week. i am unable to go to school for the rest of the school year, so i am free for the most part. except for freaking appointments.

I'm so glad you like the way Kai turned out. Once I got the background color painted in, the armor went from more purple to more reddish in my mind, and I think I got lucky in that it blended well with Kai's skin tones... Better than purpley-red would have.
The background is just... um... space-filler. Can't stand white backgrounds, and can't think of anything intelligent to put there, sos you get a color field. 
I'm glad that my rendering of Kai made you happy. Don't worry a bit about your end of the trade; I realize that you're very busy with your appointments and recovery. I will wait in the wings and look forward to seeing what you come up with. Good luck and Godspeed.

X3 i think it would have looked great either way! you are right though, the red really does bring out her overall warrior better. eh, XD i really do like the white because it is very unique. i have seen many other deviants put red dreds on their preds and i just don't want to follow that groove. i myself have red hair and i just don't want it to be that common! the color just really fits her overall personality anyway

aww, thank you so much for understanding. i just don't want you to give up faith on me. i really am trying to work my hardest on this. i mean, you are one of my idling artists. i used to read your fanfictions and constantly go over your galleries repeatedly because i was just so amazed with your god predators and the monsters that they fought.

Yeah, the blue-rings are way cool, but if you buy one at the fish & pet store (and you CAN!), they come with a disclaimer: If you get bit, it's your own fault and you can't blame the store for the octopus killing you!

what i love about these pieces is they remind me very much of those amazing East-Asian/Indian paintings of the Hindu gods and heroes!

There's actually a lot of Hindu influence - a bit of Shiva Lord of the Dance and a bit of the rakshasa, and a lot of ornate armor. I'm not sure where the cross-pollination actually occurred in my mind, but there it is.
