Description
This is one of those things that I thought would be a quick study, but it wound up being a bit of a marathon. Those individual armor plates took *FOR-EV-ARRRR* to color.Yes, I said "study". I have mad plans for a sort of St. George and the Dragon with a Predator "knight" and a dragonish Alien. While I may tweak the armor design a bit, this is basically what the knight will look like... Minus the really awkward pose.
Accomplished with ink, watercolor, Prismacolor pencils, and metallic paint pen.

Thanks! This was definitely one of the more intricate armor designs I've done. But if you ever get a chance to see Italian full plate armor from the 16th Century in an art gallery or castle or something, you'll see just how ridiculously detailed those guys were. I wanted to try to capture that with this Predator design. Later on, I'm planning to do a "St. George and the Dragon"-styled AvP piece.

^_^ I looked it up a while ago and all I can say is, wow! They put a lot of work into their armor.
^_^ I think you captured it pretty well if not perfectly. It looks fantastic! I can't wait to see it!

The initial presentation is very impressive. The background ''study'' should be just as well. May I suggest more of an eastern dragon effect for the alien, emphasizing the "Yutani" era of alienology.
Again, keep up the good work, don't feed the animals and I hope to see you in the Smithsonian...

Thank you very much!
I will certainly consider the eastern influence in the dragon, though when I initially considered the "Saint George and the Dragon" angle, I had a much more occidental design in mind for the Alien. I still have some decisions to make, which is what the studies are designed to assist with.

You may also want to consider a 'Dragon Wars' theme in which two or more cultural eras are spliced into the final work in a 'Ying Yang' effect...

Thank you! Glad you like this guy. It's funny how many of my monsters seem to be dancing... The paladin certainly isn't the only one.

I love the muschle, helmet patterns, they look very Samoan....absolutely cool touch! I just love the dynamics in your pieces, especially these Predator pieces.

Gold'n blue is a beautiful combo of armor and jewelry.
Reminds me from ancient Egyptian metal.

I was definitely thinking of enamel, stone, and metal with this color combination. The stone and gold design of the Egyptians probably had a subconscious influence on this guy's colors.

Yes, my thought exactly.
But really well done work, I could tell by your artist commentary that it took a long time to do each plate.

You just have to supply the jumble of rocks he's standing on and resting the sword on, and he doesn't look nearly so awkward.

LOL - Oh yeah, that background thing... What's funny is that it never entered my mind, not even once. My mind was full of rivets.

Amazing stuff. Our local church here is a st. George aswell, I'd love to see analienated dragon besides a paladin-like predator there. I can imagine them as a colorful window

Now THAT is a cool idea. I will have to consider a stained glass effect - I might do two versions of the project, one "realistic" and one stained glass, just to see how they would both look.

The study I did for the Alien is somewhere between a Queen-guard and a Queen - there're a lot of frills, but no oviposter.

I'm definitely going with a more oriental armor style for the shogun. As soon as I get next weekend's convention out of the way, I'll get back to my pencils and get your kiriban underway.
