Description
This is a long-standing request for ~yen-ta , and a bit of an experiment for me. Our collective Predator troupe is in the process of dismantling a planet-devouring World Cancer. The tentacles will be that funky purpley-gray-with-iridescent-green kind of color.Progress forward from the inked version .
Ink, watercolor wash, Prismacolor pencils. The coloring job so far has about 10 hours of work in it.
Oh, and sorry about the fuzziness around the middle of the picture. I stitched this together very quickly in Photoshop.

I may not have it done this weekend after all. My hand is recovering more quickly than it used to - at least for now. I do stop and rest when it starts to get crampy so that I won't do any permanent damage, but that does, of course, slow me down. I wanted to make sure you got a look at it now so that you know that I *am* rolling along on it!

I just work at this kind of stuff one element or one character at a time - both for the drawing and for the coloring. That way I can keep it all straight in my head. I have the overall color scheme in mind already, and the watercolor wash helps me hold that thought in mind as I choose individual colors and shadings for each component.

It is a very complicated picture, looking at it maes my eyes ache. but I like it, I wonder what color the monsters will be?O-O

Making this picture so complicated was one of the things that I wanted to try. I don't do such complicated pictures very often, so this project has been a really enjoyable challenge.
The monstrous tentacles will be that horrid, slimy, grayish-purple-with-green-iridescence, kind of like rotting meat.

Wooooooooow!!!! Stunning work! This is absolutely gorgeous so far. I'm so amazed at your use of vibrant colors, and it works so well with everything you do! Your primary colored pencils and the like must be gone in a matter of days! How many pencils do you go through with all the work that is done? Do you stick to certain colors?
...Did you notice that the color Electric Blue doesn't want to blend with any other colors? I hate that. 
...I also didn't know Preds had wings or shot electricity from their hands... That's new..but sweet! Totally awesome!

If I have an overriding color theme, then yes, I'll run through a pencil-and-a-half of that particular color. Ususally it's the blues and blue-greens, though in this case it'll probably be the cool grays and violet as well (that's what colors the huge mass of tentacles are going to be). I also don't work this large very often; the smaller pieces spare me some pencil lead.
I have noticed that some of the colors blend together better than others. There are some of the transparent yellows (sunburst yellow and canary yellow in particular) that don't layer as well as others. I don't think any of the electric/flourescent colors blend very well (nor are they particularly lightfast), so I don't use them very often. Yeah, there's a few like that, and it's infernally frustrating!
Oh yes... The big red guy... Okay, here's what I figure: There were more than just human-based angels back in the earliest days of creation. All of the races, known and unknown, have their heavenly correspondants. Some sided with Yahweh; some sided with Lucifer. This red guy is one of the original Rebel Angels who was, up until just before this big tentacled mess of a battle takes place, imprisoned in Predator hell. Chaunn (the brown Predator) and Khan'nai (her dad, in the left upper corner), quite on accident, freed him (so naturally there's a bunch of backstory that I need to write!). He's eternally grateful to have the opportunity to hurt people and break things once again... Only having just been freed, he's still a little off-balance. He did, after all, bring a can opener to the battle today.

Oh, I don't have nearly as much free time as I used to. I just spend almost all of my weekend working on stuff like this (and any spare hours I can wiggle out of my work week as well.

I'm not sure if the colour confuses it more or helps isolate the individual elements. There's alot going on in there!
I can however make out everything when I look. The colours are turning out to be great! Did you consider where each character went based on their colours at all? The red area is currently drawing alot of focus.

The colors should help isolate the individual elements when all is said and done, though it will also be integrated by virtue of the colors I use on the tentacles. I know it's a complex mess right now, and it's taken some careful planning to keep it all straight! I did indeed consider characters' color schemes when I placed them, and there will be balancing elements with the tentacles and the goosh inside the tentacles to make that red part of the whole instead of the sole focus. I think.
