Description This is a kiriban for . He was one of the people who captured the 95,000th pageview a while back.

Negoxe357 asked for a "shogun Predator," which I took to mean something like the killers from AvP Three World War. However, there're also *actual* shoguns to consider, which meant that I needed to do a bit of research. This fellow, then, is the result of a merry mush of inspiration from The Last Samurai, historical shogun-type armor, and my Samurai Spawn action figures.

Yes, this was an absolute bear to color. I was crazy to use this much detail. But you know I'm probably going to do it again and again and again... Because I *love* the end result.

Ink, watercolor, Prismacolor pencils.

This is really cool, because in Predators, the Yakuza gang member fights the Predator in the field with a found samurai sword thats suggests that Predators have been hunting humans for centuries - - I said to myself: Man, seeing Predators use traditional armor would be so cool - - so thank you for blessing me with this image

How cool! I think there's a bit of samurai influence in Predator culture and armor/weapon design anyway, and that slips into our minds on the subconscious level. Whenever that happens to *me* I end up with a project that exaggerates all those qualities terribly - It's just my mind saying, "YES, I NOTICED!"

I've always somehow linked the Predator culture to the Japanese Samurai culture. Y'know, seeing pictures like these really warms my heart. I'd love to see more of them.

There is a lot of samurai influence in the Predator culture, I think, particularly in their ideas about honor and clan loyalty. There is certainly some general oriental influence in their weapon and armor design, which I chose to *exaggerate terrifically* for this character. Such fun!

Thank you! The Predator creatures in the movies don't wear nearly as much armor. I like to design armor for them because the details are so much fun to draw.

Thank you! I'm glad that you like the way this piece turned out. I'm just glad that the color scheme *did* come together. My original plans were for the armor to be green and gold, but once I popped the sun in there, the colored pencils told me that it had to be red and gold instead. And I always do what the colored pencils tell me to do.

Thanks, Steve!

The emerging-from-the-mist thing, while a marvelous effect, is actually disguising the fact that I planned the composition poorly and couldn't figure out what to do with the monster's feet.

I think that is one of the most important things I learned in college: Roll with it, blend it, hide it, disguise it, then during reviews boldly proclaim the power of serendipity. Or something like that.

"That's not a bug; it's a special feature!"

I used a big Royal manual typewriter in seminary. Any paper less that about five pages was done in one draft. Many was the sentence that got reworked mid stream because it wasn't going where I wanted and I wasn't about to stop and erase it.

(I went directly from manual typewriters to WordStar. That Royal was such a dependable gem that I wasn't much interested in electric typewriters.)
