Description
... my entry into *utro 's biography poetry contest [link] ...... I was fortunate to have seen master guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan perform live, before his untimely death at age 35... probably best known for his soaring blues licks, SRV also had an intensely powerful slow side, composing supercharged love songs and ballads with an emotion that could make an audience feel like crying...
... I recall showing up late to "Bumbershoot," Seattle's 4-day arts & music festival, and having to pack into a full arena... I took a lonely seat at the back, directly behind the stage and the stacks about six rows up, and I feared I would only get to see him perform from behind... then, in the middle of "Cold Shot," he turned around to face us and I suddenly had the best seat in the house... he was such a consummate performer, he went on to play half of the next set with his guitar behind his head, occasionally glancing around and smiling at us in "the cheap seats..."

Aw, Gary, if this hadn't already been DDed, i would have had to suggest it myself.
What a powerful, mysteriously beautiful poem. It's rough and kind of raw, but all the more REAL because of it. i loves it.
You have such a wonderful way with words, Gary. Really and truly.
This poem is MAGICAL.

I wish I was old enough to have seen him preform.
But my mama made sure I was brought up right, and has, quite possibly, every song he's ever done burned into my brain lol.
SRV, and Prodigy.
Yeah, she's a little odd.

G can be both major or minor, if I remember my music classes correctly.
This is simply an incredible poem--I can't say much more about it. It would be hard to make it any more perfect or powerful.

Congrats on being one of the winning entries!!! What! Only 5 comments, sigh, others need to take time to stop and read. I enjoyed the structure and flow of this tribute. The first two stanzas beginning with the lines "The guitar has always been there" flow well because the structure of the invokes the image of the rise and fall of music plucked from the guitar and also the volume meter on the stereo (viewed sideways) Then there is a change in Stanza three to five that I would liken to a change in tempo/beat...a change in the rhythem that lets the music flow to another level...higher as "we fly into the night". One question is the key of G a minor or major? (major genearlly being a "happy" sound and minor having some tension to it....I asked my musically inclined hubby about the "key of G" to get a better understanding of the poem) I cannot be too sure for that stanza can be read two ways.

wow, that's a truly wonderful poem.
Something about the poem just.. fucking OOZES grandeur.. I just get the feeling when it's over that.. there's someone truly magnificent that I missed out on... The poem itself is just a great ballad on its own, I imagine.
After reading the description, and reading the poem.. it's like you just perfectly captured the static energy of a wonderful concert and pulled the kinks out of a hose yourself..
not much i can say, it's a great great poem.
