Description
... the latest stage of my work-in-progress, as submitted previous: [link] ... and yes indeed, that baby there is a 1970 AMC Gremlin hatchback...... my production team is considering doing a complete re-render for our Siggraph film festival entry (as described in my last journal entry: [link] )... I've been experimenting with 3DS Max 5 and the new advanced lighting tools, and I gotta admit this test frame showing off the new Skylight feature is a definite improvement over direct lighting in Max... I just wish it didn't take so damned long to crank out every single stinkin' frame...
... let's see: 3 minutes of finished film footage x 60 sec/minute x 30 frames/sec = a whopping 5,400 finished frames compressed to video...
... okay, multiply that total by 40 minutes average rendering time for each frame... that equals 6 months of constant rendering for a single computer, or one month for a bank of 6 computers committed to rendering non-stop, 24-7... that means no crashes, no problems, nothing...

this is looking awesome. more realistic than ever. the only issue is the artificial quality of the left side of the car, the side he is leaning on, something about the splotchiness of the texture takes away from the realism of this entire piece. render time is frigging insane, i'll get right on it, though.

mm. that's really awesome..
the glass is a bit green, but that's only if you're going for REALIZM and not humorous, comical, re-creation or whatever term you'd use..
uh..
very sweet..
and... ---*OUCH*--- on the render time.. that's a killer man...

LOL...that's awsome! I too thought it was a photo at first--chicken milk! Too funny...as for rendering, perhaps you could create a screensaver like SETI@Home and farm out the rendering that way

Looks great to me. From the thumbnail in my deviantMessages, I thought it was a photo. Funny too: 'lowfat chicken milk'! Yikes!
AMC Gremlin! I want one. I've never seen one in Europe.
Cheers,

I'll agree with you about the lighting, it does look much nicer although it takes a while.
I think using radiosity along with skylight is faster then using light tracer... if that's any help to you at all.
That's a nice pic though, very cool style.
