Description ... as per the contest criteria, I need to cite my sources:

resource: diamond plate
stock: dwarf hamster

... but okay...

... I usually don't make it a practice to do photomanips, but this little devART contest had me going from the start, so I had to make something just for the heck of it... hey, shove me in a cardboard box with a few limitations and I promise that I'll make you giggle...

... or snicker...

... or shake your head...

... I knew exactly what I wanted to do as soon as I saw the contest invite... it only took a matter of time to find the stock/resources to make it real...

... I'll be right with you as soon as I beat this boss...

~joins in singing before she begins her story~

trout:

I remember going to Miami for a 2 week vacation with my family. I was about .... hmmmmmm .... 6 or 7. I know girls are known to lie about their age but not that earlie
My parents were taking a nap in the hotel room while my cool young aunt watched us swim. There was a foot pool you stepped in to get any sand off your feet before entering the pool. My brother put a couple of crabs in it that he had caught around the pier earlier in the day. A few of us began playing follow the leader down the slide. As I hit the water, I felt a terrible pain in my side. Yup, it was one of the crabs hanging onto my side. I went running into the dark hotel room screaming and crying. Did I say SCREAMING ? This woke my parents up from a dead sleep. Needless to say, it's REALLY funny now but at the time I just wanted to watch my brother suffer as much pain as possible without actually dying. He came in laughing about it all and my wish came true My dad took the wet wash cloth he was cleaning my tears away with and popped my brother a few times with it Ahhhhhhhhhh ... family memories

... otay... here goes...

... about 5 years ago, I was invited to a huge wedding reception/weekend family reunion in Astoria, Oregon... Astoria is a sleepy picturesque little seaport town (the backdrop for movies like "The Goonies" and "Short Circuit") which is famous for its salmon charters that take you out to the mouth of the Columbia River, where you can average 15lb-25lb catches if you have the right skipper... naturally, I packed my saltwater rod along with my tweed sportcoat, hoping to get in a little action afterwards...

... the reception was on a Saturday, but everyone had made hotel reservations through the weekend, so a bunch of my long-lost cousins and I decided to go out on Sunday morning and catch something, only instead of trying to fish I was taught how to line-fish for Dungeness crab...

... the whole concept was really alien to me at first... where I come from there are only two ways to catch crab, the first using a crab pot and a boat, letting the traps soak all afternoon with a baitbag full of herring or squid or even canned catfood... the other way is to dip for them in shallow tide, which means endless hours of stumbling around tidal flats in knee-deep eel grass with a dip net, scooping them out of the ice-cold water before you do something silly like step on them...

... essentially what we did was take a spool of 25lb test and make about two dozen loops out of it (winding it "hand-elbow" style, much like you would do if you were coiling an extension cord), then tie a huge knot in the middle until you have something that resembles a loose cheerleader's pompom made out of tangled fishing line... tie off the biggest hook you've got in your tackle box to the middle and attach a nasty old chicken leg on it, then spray it liberally with WD-40 (I'm not kidding; I guess the cod-liver smell attracts them!)... swivel off a 1/2 oz sinker on 3' of line and now you've got this huge rat's nest that you can actually ast...

... we all took our places on the breakwater and started casting into the channel... I was doubtful at first, but in theory the crabs come along the bottom and get stuck in the "pompom" until you can actually feel the line go "ping-ping-ping" when they get stuck... reel them in and if they are a 6" male, you got a keeper...

... about an hour into this I was pulling up my line to see if I had lost my chicken leg when one of those mature oversized seagulls dropped down on the water to see what the commotion was all about... he landed on my line as the "pompom" came to the surface and suddenly his leg got tangled in the knotted line... he took off but only got so far until he came to the end of my line and started flying around me in circles like one of those gas-powered model airplanes on a tether...

... he was crying like crazy, I didn't want to hurt him but wasn't sure what to do... I didn't want to cut the line, so the next obvious thing was to reel him in... my cousins started scrambling for position, some to offer help, some were running for cover as the seagull came in closer and closer, getting more and more angry... finally we were able to drop him to the breakwater, but the gull was in such a state of panic that before we could release him, he pooped all over one of my cousins, then bit him and took out a huge piece of scalp out of the top of his head...

... now whenever my cousin sees me at another family reunion, all he does is point to the scar on his head and introduce me to others saying, "you know, he pooped on me too..."

I can see this all unfolding !!!!
I know all about WD-40 and chicken legs for crabin' I LOVE to fish. I was hoping we could meet up and fishing would be fun. However, after this story, I'm thinking we might just do dinner and a movie

... maybe shrimp fettucini and "A River Runs Through It"?

... as I've told you before, a woman that is both attractive and talented as yourself and loves to fish as well is a dangerous combo IMHO... I think I've already told you, I have absolutely NO CLUE how to catch Gulf Coast fish, nor have I ever tried fly fishing but am dying to give it a chance someday... every so often I find myself watching the Outdoor Channel and the first thing I say to myself is "OMG, don't they have any sense? Those guys are so stoopid, they're standing up in their boat!!"

... I never knew you had a dirty mind!

... some people play it this way, some people don't... I grew up with a rule in croquet that when you complete the double-diamond course, you re-enter the field proclaiming "I am Poison!" (or "I am the Black Widow!") so now when it's your turn, any ball you tap is dead and taken out of the game... Poison players can either go on a search-and-destroy mission trying to take everybody out, or lie in wait at the end peg ready to pounce on those that are trying to finish... you can have more than one Poison player in the game which can make things really interesting...
