Description As I promised, here is my second tutorial. This time I'd like to explain the way I clean my pencil linearts.
When they are finished I print them on the sheet of paper and start colouring them traditionally with my markers.
By the way, since some of you asked, I'm going to make a copic tutorial next :].

Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm very happy that my previous tutorial was helpful.

Credits: `Princess-of-Shadows for the texture, =anikakinka for giving me tips with a dodge tool :]

It helps that your lineart is already super clean to begin with... my sketches are so messy that I have to line art with Photoshop.

Good tutorial though! If I get a clean enough drawing I may have to try it this way

Red-Priest-Usada In reply to bonni-chan [2009-11-14 14:52:27 +0000 UTC]

For my linearts I usually use my pencil. I rarely make the lines with my tablet.

Wow. This is really helpful. I'v been drawing since I could hold a pencil, but I've never learned how to advance my art with programs. I like the smooth lines of pencil as well, and the 'no fogiveness' of inking is brutal. Thanx muchly!! :3

Really simple to understand and also good for the Gimp users like me (really similar to Photoshop). A very good idea.

With it and the colouring tutorial, I'm ready to try to color a first lineart!

Instead of using brightness/contrast, I would suggest using "selective color" option . Then you just play with the levels of white, neutral and black - you'll get way better results.

YayY! Hmm, I found this in the popular deviations but it's in my inbox too...
I'm not sure how much of this is in photoshop elements (I have pse 7 ) but, luckily, the computer I scan my images in on is my dad's, and he has photoshop... Buahahaha.
Thanks for the tut, Usada-san!

I was wondering, I also use copic markers but I thought you needed to make the line-art with copic/water-proof inkt. So I use a copic-proof fine-liner. But when I print them and color them, won't the inkt from the printer smear out or make the brush nib dirty?

besides that, It's a real nice tutorial very helpful ^_^
I love it how your line-art turned out

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Red-Priest-Usada In reply to VK-oelala [2009-11-10 16:11:49 +0000 UTC]

To be honest, I print my lineart with my Canon printer. After priting I wait a few minutes for ink to get dry and then I start colouring. I never had problems with the ink getting smudged by copics.

how do u then color under the lines without getting color on the lines itself? =___=

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Red-Priest-Usada In reply to Voodoo8Witch [2009-11-10 09:30:36 +0000 UTC]

You're interested in colouring the lineart digitally, right: 3?
It's quite simple. Duplicate the layer with your lineart, change its mode into multiply (the white color becomes transparent) and create new layers for colouring under the duplicated layer.
I've already discussed this option in one of my previous tutorials (see my folder with linearts and tutorials). If you need help don't hesitate to ask.
