TW for past child abuse, alcohol abuse, death & house fire

It's been almost 10 years since Gallantry first ran away from home at 18. Now he was living his best life.

He's been an assassin for the last 3-4 years and has been married to his wonderful wife, Emery, for 2 years now. He hadn't heard word from his parents at all. Made him wonder how they were.

"Gall! I just got the mail, I think there's a letter for you" Emery piped up to her husband, his ears perked as he curiously turned to look at her.

"Oh? Mind readin' it for me, hun?"

Emery smiled and nodded at him as she trotted closer with the note in her mouth. Sitting beside him she ripped the envelope open with her fangs and pulled the piece of paper out.

She was scanning it over quietly at first before her face slowly fell and a worried look covered it. Gall took notice and nudged her slightly.

"Em? What's wrong?"

"I...I think you should read this yourself" she frowned as she handed him the paper, confused he took it and began reading to himself.

"Dear, Gallantry

We're sorry to inform you your parents, Peach Fuzz and Acorn Crack, have sadly perished in a house fire on the 20th of this month.

The building was destroyed but the few items scrapped out go to you, their wills consist of 100k of their assets going to you, please take care.

My condolences, The Ponyville Mayor"

Gall felt his world shatter right before his eyes. He put a hoof to his face in disbelief as tears streamed down his cheeks.

"..I'm so sorry, baby.." Emery frowned as she wrapped her arms around her husband, tears welling up in her eyes as well.

Gall's parents were horrible. They were abusive and careless and never loved him. He despised them. But, they were still his parents. They raised him a small part of him still loved them so dearly.

And now they were gone. Gall felt he could've done better, all he did was run away. Maybe if he had went back and tried to patch things up with them it would've gotten better. But he ran away like a coward.

And now he'll never get the chance to apologize or see them ever again.

And just for clarification, Gallantry grew up in Ponyvillie but no longer lives there, but he does sometimes go back for assassination business
