tehimpactofreason [2006-07-09 20:06:35 +0000 UTC]

did you just use different shades of the same color to shade, or did you use the burn tool at all?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RizyuKaizen In reply to tehimpactofreason [2006-07-10 01:00:53 +0000 UTC]

different shades but going possibly up or down in colors. Like if you have orange slowly start going down into red, blue go up into purple. Depends on the effect you want.

Ahh I seee.
Sorry if this is an incredibly noobish question, I just got Photoshop CS, but, how do you color each seperate thing? Like the hair and such.
Do you use the magic wand or what? o.o

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RizyuKaizen In reply to Orphens [2006-01-20 00:39:11 +0000 UTC]

I have it step by step in how I do it. I make a layer under the lineart and color it by hand with the brush tool. I have a tablet so it is much easyer then a mouse. I never use the magic wand for coloring.

Lots of practice with micron pens >^^<;;; That is all I can really tell you. I dont know why I am abel to keep my lines nice a clean. To me they still look a bit on the messy side.

This is very helpful! I still don't understand how to get the bg under the lineart Also, do you use a tablet?

Okay. I need a tablet! So how do you get the bg under the lineart?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RizyuKaizen In reply to Hino-Akurei [2005-08-24 10:20:08 +0000 UTC]

You know how to set the lineart to multiply right. Make a new layer and just drag it below the lineart and do the background on there. That is all.

saiyanhajime In reply to Hino-Akurei [2007-06-05 07:18:28 +0000 UTC]

There is a much better way of seperating the lineart. It seems complicated at first but it becomes habbit.

Copy the layer with your lineart on.
Go to the channels pannel in the layer window and click the new channel button (like you would a new layer) and your image will go black.
Go back to the layers pannel and paste your lineart.
Then go to Select > Load Selection.
Make sure you click the "invert" tickbox.
The lineart (anywhere black) on your image will be highlighed. Make a new layer.
Go to Edit > Fill.

Now you're black lines will be on a seperate layer. When you use the multiply method, you may encounter problems later on in your drawing. This way has NO problems!

love this tutorial.. i never knew about that lock feature.. it will save lots of time, no more going back and cleaning up the lines every time... .. i always thought if i locked it then i wouldn't be able to do anything on it.. but i think locking the whole layer is probably not exactly the same as what you mentioned here?.. i'l look into it next time i get back to working on my current WIP.

Hmm looks helpful... Is CS much different than 7.0? If not, I may have to come back to this and have a go at cell shadeing

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RizyuKaizen In reply to Hyouden [2005-06-28 11:25:28 +0000 UTC]

Actuly no. CS is Creative Suite. This I think is Photoshop 8.0 or something. CS just means I got everything Adobe with it. But no. I use to use 5.5 and when I went to CS it was not all that different. Only that it has more power behind it really.

it would be interesting to know what brush settings you were using for the shading itself...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RizyuKaizen In reply to MoonLightSpectre [2005-06-20 00:51:40 +0000 UTC]

between 5-25 for most of it. If I have a big area I will go larger to fill the area in.

RizyuKaizen In reply to MoonLightSpectre [2005-06-22 01:22:59 +0000 UTC]

Oh that. I just use the first one on the brush list. It has the most crips edges to it but not to hard like the pencil ones have.

JewelesR [2005-06-09 14:55:03 +0000 UTC]

How do you create your lineart? On the computerin illustrator? Or do you ink on paper and delete the background?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RizyuKaizen In reply to JewelesR [2005-06-09 19:24:42 +0000 UTC]

I draw it out in pencil, ink it with Sakura Micron Pen *normaly a 01 for fine lines, and a 03 or 05 for heavyer lines* and erace the pencil off and then scan it. That is about it.

Yea. It is Dai-chan. I just used the last image I was working on in cell shading as the tutorial image. But I am glad it can be of some use. I know I did not discribe everything to well. And I kinda feel bad for doing that. But I am just not good at explaing things to people to much. Also I use about... 3-4 different techniques.
