Here we have a (London & North Western Railway) LNWR Improved Precedent Class of Steam Locomotive. This particular loco is LNWR No. 790 "Hardwicke" and is positioned on the centre turntable of the National Railway Museum, York on the day that i visited.This particular loco did run preserved train back in the 1980s but is now just a static display. It was famous because on the 22 August 1895, It took 2 hours and 6 minutes for the 141 mile run from Crewe to Carlisle, with an average speed of 67.1 mph, setting up a new speed record during the Race to the North. Which were the rail companies competing to gets trains to the North of England and Scotland quicker than each other via the West Coast Mainline.
