A follow-up to How To OCT .

While accepts teams of ANY size, it is strongly recommended that creators do not start with more than two characters!

Wow, great advice. O.o This is my first OCT, so I had never considered this aspect of it... opens up a whole new avenue of possiblities!

If managed well, it can be a wonderful experience. If not...it can give creators an awful head-ache! Just make sure to manage your stories well, and you'll be fine!

I love being able to tell all the contestant's stories if I make it late into a round. Even if I kill someone off, that's not a reason why they won't have something to do with a later round. Even so, I know how tough it can be to take on all these characters at once, so I am glad you can send out this warning to people.

Striking a balance is key. It's almost impossible to go through an OCT without acquiring at least ONE additional character, and often they can bring out amazing things in one's own OC! However, I've also seen several creators get crushed under the weight of the plotlines they were juggling. Careful character management can be key!

I hope to be able to do just that. I always love my competitors characters and don't want to see them go to waste after I've gotten past their round, but sometimes you just have to let it go.

It's always a tough call...although seeing Spectator Entries can also be tons of fun, and much easier to incorporate at the end, because you know what they've been up to.

Heh. I also love seeing when a random person does a spectator entry and then one of the competitors decides to add it to their round. Like what Beanjamish did in The Cure.

Definitely! I want to think up a way to encourage SEs, because they're a great way for people to say involved in the community and event, but without the stress!

ArcusofBrambles In reply to RobinRone [2011-03-16 02:43:10 +0000 UTC]

I have one! Show all of them off, and encourage the competitors to use them canononically if they like them enough.

RobinRone In reply to ArcusofBrambles [2011-03-16 04:02:48 +0000 UTC]

That kinda gets in the way of people making SEs themselves though, because then their own characters are "taken".

Oh so true, and keeping track of multiple people like that is hell for the betas too. So. Many. Details.

But yes. The Great Prince Waffledorp will concur all, because he is just. That. Awesome.
I wonder if he needs a humble subject of some sort. Brush carrier? Hoof polisher? Where does one apply?

RobinRone In reply to topios [2011-03-15 23:41:00 +0000 UTC]

Perhaps GPW will start accepting applications...

BUT FIRST he'll need to get a secretary to look at all those applications on his behalf. Those without thumbs need not apply.

That is a wise decision GPW has made.

Oh, and it's a clever tutorial, too. Totally not a Prince Waffledorp fangirl. Nope. Who told you that? Lies, all lies. No fangirling for me, no sirree bob.

RobinRone In reply to haius [2011-03-15 23:38:05 +0000 UTC]

You? A fangirl? No. I would never suspect you of that. *surreptitiously slides you a I <3 Waffledorp shirt*

Heh heh heh... I have no idea what you mean about how trying to keep track of too many plotlines can thin out your characterization...

RobinRone In reply to TheBuggiest [2011-03-15 22:23:29 +0000 UTC]

Hey, I've been there too. OCTs require at least a little bit of that, but it's a delicate balance.

Live and learn, right? I think I'm avoiding that mistake this time around, so it's all good.

heh. Oh the madness

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RobinRone In reply to FaelaArts [2011-03-15 22:25:30 +0000 UTC]

It's a sneaky kind of madness. You think you're safe, top of the world, then BAM! You've got two weeks to finish an entry and twenty characters to make as EPIC AS POSSIBLE.

I still have nightmares about it...Plotlines...all over the cutting room floor. OH THE HUMANITY!

FaelaArts In reply to RobinRone [2011-03-15 22:51:19 +0000 UTC]

Haha So true. 'm in 20 roleplays on another site and it absolute madness when they are all begging for a reply.

And yet I love it XD

RobinRone In reply to Allatwan [2011-03-15 22:11:15 +0000 UTC]

If you're willing to accept the work it requires to do well, it can be amazing. We just don't want people to stumble into this pitfall on accident. That's far less fun.

It's sad, but true. I've seen a lot of really skilled storytellers fail because of this issue.

I've got faith in whichever side's got the Great Prince Waffledorp, tho.
