Description Fweh, a continuation (i say fweh a lot recently now and i'm not turning into some sort of a chocobo) of the past tutorial on lineart. This time we're gonna shade and color. Learn the secrets of my coloring technique which not so great

1. I usually use paintbrush and pen tool to color. Both of this are of the same, altho paintbrush are, well, has a bit of a soft effect but the result are practically the same. The differences can be seen when you use them for shading.

2. You can use that tool i've circled in red to pick up exact colors if you have problem in picking the right colors. A cheap way, but for me, i've already set my own settings so it's not a big problem for me at all.

You can do the coloring on one layer but it's more advisable to separate them into layers. It'll be easier, not to mention cleaner.

3. When you've done the base coloring, merge it down. Make it into one layer. Then do a new layer of multiple properties since you are going to shade it. Multiple means that when you shade on it, the color won't go on top of the original, but it will blend in, hence the darken tones.

4. You see here, this is my technique nowadays. A combo of cell shading and soft shading, and i'm starting to like it. To do this, use the paintbrush tool and lightly paints it on. Then use the smudge tool to smudge the endings to make it smoother, then repeat the same process on the next layer etc etc etc until you've got...

5. This. Add a bit of shadings on the eyes and hey, you've shaded your picture perfectly. Nice eh?

6. This is the cell shading type, where it's much easier than the previous one. Reccomended if you are a newbie or just plain of a lazy arse to do details. No need to explain much here, you can understand how it works by reading what i've written on there. Note that in cell shading, the parts where you do multiple shadings is only on something that has layers. Like shirt and stuff like that. Take referrences on the actual anime or other anime pictures to understand better. I don't really know how to explain much so i hope this helps, at the very least.

One note, this tutorial are applicable to all version of opencanvas btw. So no sweat if you've got only the 1.1 version.

So, which shading style do you like best hmm? :3

Thanks for the tut! I personally prefer celstyle, because imo it looks cleaner and funkier. Ehh, but depends on the mood of the pic too. Thanks for the tip on doing shading on Multiple layers. <--used to always use a darker colour. Which, after reading this, I think is more troublesome to blend. These tuts are a great help!
