In the new version they renamed everything.. so Addition is now "Linear Dodge"

Really? If you have problem erasing some parts without going inside the lines, try using a smaller brush.
Usually I go Tiny (small and narrow spaces) -> Small (for tracing along the outside of the lines) -> Big (for all the color that is no where near the lines)

I meant step five (Note to self: when rereading, actually read, not just look at the pic)

Okay I see.
Yeah, the trick is to use a very soft spray brush and just a teeny bit of color. Even subtle strokes will give great results.
Note that this won't work with Photoshop and it really helps to use a tablet.

This is wonderful...I never thought of using a color layer underneath the line art for the base skin tone!
Thank you for putting this together. Definitely a !

Oh really? XD
I wouldn't be able to work properly without layers. It's amazing how many people there are that aren't really using them.

I use a *ton* of layers, but have never used an entire fill layer for the base color -- I just color it by hand with the stylus! Doh. I knew there had to be an easier way to do it! XD

Great tutorial dude. It's pretty similar to how I learned how to do nice skin. I think the lack of an 'addition' layer can be offset by blending modes and other tools in Photoshop if not Painter IX. (I really should get Painter IX... >.> ).
Great work. Fav'd for usefulness.

wow very nice tutorial....but i have a question on #3 or for the whole tutorial...i just like to know if there is a certain opacity used for the brush...if its in 100% or lower...and also, if the brush used is hard or soft...

Scarabus In reply to s0nnyv [2006-06-28 06:11:37 +0000 UTC]
Oh, in case of the water color brush I use a soft brush with 100% opacity, but pressure sensitivity enabled for size and opacity.

I'm glad ^_^
I literally threw this tutorial together so I was afraid that it wouldn't make any sense.
..but no, it's not really that hard, which is why I love it so much ^_^

I have no idea. I use the "Addition" layer type and from what I know it's only in open canvas and I
think there's something similar in Painter
