Its so eerie how closely that doll face resembles the actor. This is a great, informative tutorial

WoW, this is an amazing tutorial, thank you so much for making it!

Do you think this technique would work for very short hair, too? Like...almost crew-cut short...

Thank you SO much! I've been more and more displeased with the wig I'm using on my doll, and finding absolutely nothing in commercially made wigs that was right. Now, at least I have a chance of making what I need!

You! My Lady, are my hero! With my own version of Loki on the way I have been debating for days how to get his wig done properly .... and here you are .... Thank you! Thank you so much! If I truely end up with this style for his hair all the credit will go to you! You are amazing! Thank you for sharing this!

scargeear In reply to PiecesOfEden [2012-11-08 15:42:35 +0000 UTC]

Thanks a lot, ehehehe! Did you order a minimee head from DIM? I've seen that GO on DoA, they've done a good job on the head, it really has its likeness.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PiecesOfEden In reply to scargeear [2012-11-08 15:52:09 +0000 UTC]

No, I actually went for an Iplehouse Shane ... I didn't want him to look exactly like Tom (if I had, I would have ordered your head, actually ^-^) ... so I looked for a mold that appealed to me asthetically and would suit my personal interpretation of Loki. ^^ So he'll be a mixture between Tom's Loki (clothes, hair-color and eyes mostly) and how I see the mythological god ^^

scargeear In reply to PiecesOfEden [2012-11-08 16:02:37 +0000 UTC]

Ahha, understood, thank you for the explanation! Shane is a beautiful mold, I love most of the Iplehouse mature dolls)) Good luck to you, it would be interesting to look at your interpretation of Loki.
And thank you for the compliment about my mold ^_^

PiecesOfEden In reply to scargeear [2012-11-08 17:31:59 +0000 UTC]

You are very welcome!
Thank you ^^ I fell for Shane the moment they released him so it was only a matter of time *laughs* On November 1st I placed the order and I am currently waiting for him (rather impatiently xD) ... he's racing my gf's Tony Stark on the way home *lol* We'll see who comes first!
And again, you are welcome! It is an incredible sculpt!!

Looks just like his hair! thanks soo much for shairing this! i wanted to try and do somthing like this but for a much smaller doll(monster high actully) ^.^ awesome work really the resemblance is uncanny!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

scargeear In reply to LilmADHAttERLu [2012-11-08 15:38:03 +0000 UTC]

Thanks a lot, the resemblance to the point it could be mixed up with a photo was my intention! The method is suitable for males with an intricate hair line, and for females with neatly combed hair too.

KymeraBJD In reply to ??? [2012-11-08 13:21:49 +0000 UTC]

Definitely will have to play around with this. I have a doll who is supposed to have a sort of long mohawk hair style and I've been trying to figure out how I would achieve that while also hiding the headplate on the back of her head.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

scargeear In reply to KymeraBJD [2012-11-08 13:35:32 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much! A mohawk on the completely shaved head could be very tricky to make... The tutorial suits for the less radical types of mohawk though))

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KymeraBJD In reply to scargeear [2012-11-12 13:00:41 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the completely shaved head look would be hard... but I think I would be OK with just really short on the sides, and if not that, your tutorial still gives me ideas of how I might be able to make the wig-cap out of velvet or short fur.

Does the wig-cap stay on by itself, or do you need to have something to stick it on, like velcro?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

scargeear In reply to KymeraBJD [2012-11-12 13:39:24 +0000 UTC]

I also think very short sides would look good too. Or this kind of mohawk: [link]
The wig stays on its own because it repeats the shape of the head to 99% accuracy, but you may use some silicone or double-sided sticky tape to be sure it doesn't fall off. If you plan to use the velcro it would be better to put it under the wig cap on the stage of making it because velcro is rather thick. I mean, my wigs aim for the EXACT front line look, and 2-3 mm make a difference. If the requirements are not too strict velcro is pretty OK.
